  1. Zappa - apostrophe i truly love this album…. Took me a few goes to get it, but the sound quality, musicianship and creativity is just brilliance! fantastic on headphones
  2. I wish you were closer I’d have this in a heart beat. i don’t understand why ampeg stopped making these as they were fantastic true ampegs. glwts
  3. I bought two hb guitars two years ago which are still great and have served their purpose really well. guitar 1 - a Hendrix esque strat , left handed for my eldest son to learn on. About £125 he’s doing really well to be fair and now two years in yearns for an American fender. guitar 2- a rose wood telecaster (a la George Harrison) for me. Just for at home playing. Im a bass player (ovs) but have the occaision noodle on the racing snake and so not worth spending big money but nice to have around…. mine did need a bit of attention to get it set up right though but as I’d only paid £150 I had no hesitation in getting the sandpaper out leveling the frets and re crowning myself. plays great now…. so not the gear your asking about no, but in terms of “can this be any good because it’s so cheap”…… yeah , I’ve no idea how they can make and ship these guitars for these prices, other than they must be made by 7 year old luthiers…….
  4. Sound advice….. And yes, I’m in one of them confused states with my current gear. im not entirely sure if it’s all in my head, you know how a tiny seed of a thought can grow…… mill try to live with the gear I have (little bass thing and a single obc112) to see if it IS just over thinking. what I wanted from the orange was that warm deep punchy clean sound. i believe the LbT is good for that I’m just not convinced with the cab. the previous cabs I’ve mentioned are the obc115 & obc210 which are none isobaric and the obc212 which IS …. All with the intention of just giving a fuller sound. wish I could try a 15 near to me but no where has one . Even if it’s just to answer that question.
  5. Hahaha sorry, please excuse my 1970’s esque Luddite linguistic blunders…. In my defence , Bird is a term which has for a long time been used heavily here in Liverpool , and is intended with affection rather than derogatory in most regards …. ill try better 😆👍
  6. My last set I had on for 8.5 years, this latest set been on almost 2…… they have a medium tension feel and are lively the the touch, over than the Da Chromes I used for years…. They can still be slapped with a convincing sound, infact i can’t get a quite convincing nard Edwards vibe from them… give them a try
  7. I’m not a fan of pf, too light for me….. i like ebony though, dark and hard
  8. I’m a big fan of Ernie ball cobalt flats, they gave qualities of both flat and rounds to my ear. there was a tu one when some folk complained of rust from these strings, but I’ve never had that problem personally and after 10+ years with conlat flats I’d be hard pressed to agree to change…
  9. I’d really like a thump on one of them Stanley Clarke alembics 😍
  10. Fair do’s to that young bird with the funny hair cut, she’s got a set of lungs on her….. (self esteem) the real thing, enjoyed the guy playing bass for them, quite a groove … (i am a tad biased being a scouser)…. enjoyed the chap playing jazz rag guitar with the bird uk the duff singing…. He had a nice touch.. but if I never see ruby turner again it will be too soon….. and yes, Jim Muir is the rather dull alter ego to the once hilarious vic reeves….
  11. The super twin is a killer cab for sure…. wish I had that kind of budget but just been made redundant 😞 does anyone here gig regularly on it’s just 1x 115?
  12. I’ve a Volvo v90, but unfortunately that’s to fit my bloody wheelchair in 😆 that said, it’s my band chums who load my gear for me (obviously….. they won’t let me pack in or leave the band and so I just keep going as best I can) so , with others carrying my gear I just can’t take the pesh 😂 i did have a tc elec es 450 combo which allthough on a very very handy portable trolly, it wasn’t the lightest amp out there either, and there was no complaints from that…. So if I can caster a 212 or the like so much the better… in all honestly, I’m likely to end up with a 2nd obc112 because of weight and a guilty conscience on those carrying my gear. good job I’ve only heard good things about that set up .
  13. I, by chance, demo’ed a TE elf head and 2x8 cab for stu zender a while back, he bought it to record his latest album he’s working on. he didn’t play but had me noodle around and slap with requests for this and that for an hour or so, said it sounded great. Said “even your mistakes sound good” hahaha ….. So, as the ultimate endorsement of this te elf gear, if it’s good enough for SZ, I say it’s good enough for everyone !
  14. My trustee old TC rs450 combo… can’t understand for the life of me why TC stopped making this amp.
  15. It’s the eternal torture of thinking it, but not knowing it 😂 I do like the 112 at low levels, but with just one, and the amp running it’s volume towards 11pm (compressor at 12 noon) , the cab just felt like it was at its limit and loosing its clean bottom end sound. Things got a bit flappy, beginning to break up, just didn’t sound rich /warm and clean…. an additional 112 will likely do it just fine but I “think” a 115 , which is a well regarded cabinet , might just give me the bottom end girth and leave me with the amp head not having to eq to an extreme, or pushing the cab to its limit quite early on …..and not rely on me using the amp eq to dial in what I’m looking for…. i could be totally wrong, as yes speaker size doesn’t equate to width of sound……. But I do think a 115 will let me run the amp and my bass in a more neutral sense and give me the sound I have to drive the 112 to get. it will do it, but it isn’t it’s natural , neutral sound…..
  16. Yeah I think so, I just don’t want to be left still wanting the girth of a 115…… i find with the 112 I’ve got the amps bass turned up and treble cut, as I push for that deeper bass sound. It does it, but I’d imagine the 115 would do it without the extreme use of eq…. i like to keep the eq as close to neutral as I can so that it can be used to deal with a rooms acoustics more than dial in a particular sound ?
  17. I’ve a LBT head, and I’ve an obc112 cab. the 112 on its own is fine for rehearsals and probably MoST small pub, bar gigs, but it seems to be at its limit when the amp is just tweaked with volume nob about 10/11 o’clock. i mean, the head seems to out power the cab quite early on. Id like to have just a little more headroom, but i can’t decide whether I should go with a second obc112, which I believe is a great rig…… or……. should I just go to a single obc115. i appreciate the 115 is heavy an i would always put it on castors….. but my head tells me a single 115 cab is a better solution….. i k ie the simple answer is try both, but I have no access to try any really and so hoped for the guidance of those who have tried before me anyone else’s been down this route , what did you choose and was it the right decision. ?
  18. I got a black cover for my orange obc112, apparently orange bass cabs look out of place in our living room ? 😂👍
  19. Yeah I can imagine…. i like punch, that deep thud is great. is the 212 heavy ?
  20. Sounds like a good shout , I’ll take a look at the ehx unit thanks
  21. Today has been all about Kenny Burrel…. the guitar parts are obviously fabulous but the bass parts 😍 ahhhhh ! Sublime
  22. Cheers karl yeah the single obc112 is great but for the bigger venues I imagine will struggle on its own. i did a show gig (big stage and house pa, small theatre size) and it just about coped as an on sound stage rig (for the band to hear rather than the venue)…. it just got a bit lost with the size of the stage /venue , the bottom end kind of evaporated…. I may well keep my eye out for a 2nd obc112 but anytime in the past I’ve had a two cab rig I almost certainly never use the 2nd cab. It gathers dust, takes up space and ends up getting traded on. i wonder if the obc115, sp212 or an obc212 might cope a bit better as a single cab solution, not that the obc112 lacks anything really for most venues ….but we all like to have plenty of headroom at our disposal I guess. My heart tells me to trade the 112 for a 115 as a single can solution but my head says there can’t be that much in it between them …. mattie
