Super logger 😂 Ive been trying to log in all this time 😑 -
I have a pjb cub which is a fantastic bit of kit for at home rehearsals . dont be fooled by the 100w claim, it may well be but feels more like 30w, I fact my sons ashdown perfect 10 has (30w) has a similar output. the tone is punchy and precise, never has a bad sound from it but it’s limitations are to front room writing and running through new material. i could only ever consider it for the quietest of gigs. it is however notably bigger in output with my active MM rather than my passive fender. i mean, twice the output
-
That’s actually a good description of what it was doing, one loud note, but at deafening frequencies that brought on a frown from all in said room. i didnt have the desire to continue with this cab so went back to 10’s. last nights session confirmed to me I had made the absolute right choice.

Used the folding sack truck tonight.... it pulled ok but was pretty insecure. the Penn elcom clip on trolley should hopefully arrive tomorrow so I’ll let you know how that goes.
-
No, only a small output band so not through p/a...

As I said, this cab has the exact sound I’m wanting. I’m sure I can “do better” but I simply haven’t got barefaced kind of cash. the Markbass 210 I had sounded great but just lacked bottom width and warmth. I tried a mb 121h cab and simply hated the 12” sound which was flappy and undefined. thus orange cab is perfect in aspect of the sound it delivers, 10” definition but with 15” warmth and depth. I love it, there’s just no way I’m gonna be able to Carry it. I have a nasty type of spinal arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis so my back is buggered good and proper. i can manage the lift in and out of the car but there’s no way I’m carrying this cab. so, casters or trolley! Ive opted for and bought tonight the clip on trolley ( same as what tc elec gear uses). Ill see how it goes if it’s no good I’ll move to casters. This trolley clip being the least invasive with just a few screw holes to mount the trolley mounts.

Yeah I considered the dolly option but I think curbs bumps and steps would just be a pain in the pipe... im 95% for the castors but the penn elcom clip on style trolly has my interest... I’ve found it online fir just £16! judging by the quality of their flightcase gear I’m guessing it’s of good quality.... many tc elec cab users out there got love for the clip on trolley ?
-
The pyeurothene rubber aspect of casters appeals to me as nothing would make me cringe more that chattering a can over bumpy tarmac on nylon type naff wheels.... but the clip on trolley , I’ve now found made by penn elclom, who make all manor of pro flight case stuff, seems a good clamped on alternative to the sack truck and the but if a juggling act that comes with it https://www.pennelcomonline.com/Mobile/en/Penn-Elcom-3-Stage-Removable-Case-Trolley-H4515/m-m-8943.aspx

After a recent cab debacle I’ve ended up with a cab that I’m really happy with sound wise but I swear to god it’s made of dark matter.... its an Orange Obc210, and at 29.5kg it’s more than I want to be dealing with. i have one of the gold up sack trucks but always found it awkwardly and as the foot plate isn’t huge as well as the handle being just a tad to low to move it comfortably, I’m considering other options and value the opinion of you guys. ive found some high quality castors but I’m not keen really as I’m usher how this will affect the sound of the cab, it not being coupled with the floor etc.... ive also seem the clip on type trolleys like the type that come with tc electronic combos... anyone got experience with these? Are they strong? Do they come Unclipped to easy? https://www.pennelcomonline.com/Mobile/en/Penn-Elcom-3-Stage-Removable-Case-Trolley-H4515/m-m-8943.aspx the wheels only look small and hard plastic too..... rubber casters, folding sack trolley, or clip on tv style trolley... opinions welcomed. and yes, I’m aware I still have to deal with stairs and lift it in and out the car but I’m sure I can get a bit of help with that if need be....
-
Cheers Greg, what you describe is exactly what I found..... it was just not happening for me and my delve into 12” cabs was brief, very brief at just one outing, but that was enough for me to be certain I needed to return back to 10’s. ive now done that and my problem is gone. the cab will be great for someone else I guess but for me we just didn’t get on.
-
Also worth noting, when I picked the cab up, I did a/b it against the 210 at home (big room, pretty loud) , it had notable bottom end advantage but no issue like the bursts of rediculas low frequency I got the other night from e string. whats more, at home, together they sounded unbelievably good. I mean perfect. i figures I’d never need to use the two and let the 210 go, like a fool.

Unfortunately none near by (Runcorn)... gonna try a different room next week for rehearsal. i had thought to maybe try one of them floor uncoupling mat jobbies but I did try it sat on top of an old ashdown which was in the studio, no real difference. what if preferred with rear ported cabs? Away from a wall or against it? i was originally set up just forward of a corner in the room but moved out of the corner along the wall and pulled out to about two foot . this isn’t possible in gig environments ..... if inly i played in a dub reggae band, I’d be living it 😂👍🏻

How do I “check it”? I also found I was driving my amp vol higher than I ever have....? i will give it another try....

Thanks for the advice guys....glad to hear I’m not alone. i did run the eq flat, and then with bass and low mid cut to around 10 o clock, it reduced the boom but the sound became somewhat clatery...? i tried pushing the mids.... still couldn’t get a nice sound. turned off both filters. Better, but still the troupe of sound that just makes you want to pack up and go home. im kicking myself because I foolishly sold the 102p three days before!!! the reason I made the move from the 2x10 , as much as I loved the sound , which to be fair was hard to get a bad sound at all, I just wanted a bit more thump. Thicken the gravy a bit.... this 121h was just uncontrollable , anything played on the e string was a swell of reverberating frequency mess... not a fan. 🤨
-
Guys I’m just so miserable tonight..... had 1st rehearsal with a new cab and had quite easily the worst sound I’ve ever had , I mean totally uncontrollable flappy mud. i use a mB lm3 and did use a single 8ohm 210p traveller cab, the sound was tight, punchy , but I wanted just a little more low width. not wanting to move to the size of a 15” cab, i went for the Mb 121h cab thinking this would be a happy compromise.... maybe it was the room? But the sound was just either uncontrollable bottom end swell or flappy and unresponsive. i absolute hated it and had one of them hideous rehearsals were you just cannot fix your sound no matter what. first if all, I moved away from the corner, then away from the wall (rear ported cab) then lifted it up off the floor.....no joy no matter what I did i want my 210 traveller back 🤨#bummed

Cobalt flats are fantastic... had a set on for 3 years plus and have no need to change them anytime soon. tension is great, everything is clear yet warm. play as comfy as a pair of old slippers. my mm has ddddiadddriioo chromes in it, bout 5 years old, the are nice but feel sluggish 👍🏻
-
I’m off work tomorrow and was hoping to go try a few cabs out..... not as easy as you would think admit many markbass suppliers in the northwest... (bought my gear from promenade music who have lots of mb gear in stock, but it’s a bit of a trek.... ) anyone know anywhere in liverpool or manchester that have any? after much deliberation, I haven’t got barefaced money so I want to hear the Mb 151ny and 121.... is the New York stuff just minus a horn ? Just keen to see/hear it as size wise it ain’t too bad... not much bigger than my 210trvlr
-
Another possibility would be a mb121 cab in 4ohm version.... yes this would prevent me adding another cab but it might be the compromise I’m looking for on wanting a 15”cab sound but not a 15” cab?
-
Ahhhh decisions decisions 😂 i otiginally eanted the mb 121p combo with the intent of buying a second 121ny cab if needed, but stock was an issue when I bought so I went with the mk3 head and 210p trvlr cab. to be fair, the combination I have is great, I would recommend it, I’m just inclined to want that little extra girth without moving towards two cabs. The obvious thing to do would be to get the Mb 1x15 cab but it’s just that little bit out of convenience for storing, transporting and carrying. Am I likely to get that extra girth by swapping the 210 for a single Mb 1x12? will a 1x12 offer the wider sound I want than a 210? It’s not a 15” cab but it’s somewhere in between obviously... as I said, I have mobility issues so just can’t afford to be shifting big cabs. the bf bb seems a good option but a big cost,
-
Cheers guys,, appreciate the comments.... ill have to go and try some but as I was looking at buying used from a shop who would deliver (distance) so I’d kinda ruled out the possibility of trying. im unsure on the barefaced range so not sure if it’s a 2x12 of a 15”.... big baby ? Would that be about right for what I’m after ? I’ll take a look..cosy a bit more though so not sure I can make the stretch

Guys, I’m looking for advice from anyone who may have a/b’d two particular cabs I am gassing over.... the matkbass 210p traveller against the orange obc212 i run a simple rig, a markbass little mark 3 with a single 8ohm 210p traveller cab. its a great sound and for the band I play with it’s enough, but I seem to be chasing a bit more of a fuller deep girth sound that I’m used to with the 15” Mesa scout I replaced. (to heavy, too complicated 😂) i went for the 210p tvlr for light weight, ease of carry etc and it’s a fantastic cab but I need more of an old school under girth rather than that mid ranged poke. that said, the option of the 15” markbass traveller is a little to big a cab for me, sooooo I’m thinking 12” or maybe even 2x12”. The cab I have in mind is the orange obc212. my question is, is the 2x12 going to give me the girth I want more noticeable than from the 2x10 Mb cab, or is the different in speaker size likely to Be not much at all in terms of over all sound ? i really don’t want to go back to 15”cab I have mobility issue and struggle a bit but think the 212 on a trolley would be fine. also, the orange gear seems to be more suited to that broken up driven sound, I’m wanting this for clean sound but old school thump.... the combination of the orange 212 and my Mb lm3 is a bit unconventional, any one else used this combination? All comments and advice welcome cheers

Ahhh guys, Pete ! Thanks for the info, I got distracted by the crimbo ! I will check it out tomorrow.... Are the concert strings such as Spiro tied differently ? I once played a bass owned by an old guy (70 plus) who had a fantastic feel to his set up... his secret he said was to chuck away the e string and fit A DG strings in position 123 then fit a high C in pos 4 but tune it to G. I mentioned it on here s while back and it seems it's highly unusual but a couple of older players said there was a period in 60's when this was the done thing, it even had a name which I can recall ??? Sounds idiotic but I tell you it felt and sounded divine. But these strings are just too dear to "have a go" with.... I might go pay him a visit and take another look! In the mean time, I also used a bass which had strings that looked like a yellow weaved texture, no idea what they were ? Are they the roots ?
