if you're used to the Jazz 4, may be worth thinking about a Jazz-style 5?
2nd hand Mexican Fender, or Marcus Miller Sire v7 5 string may be just the ticket. Latter seems to be getting good reviews -
+1 on Loudmax. Free and rather good!

Sounds like your output levels are quite low... you may get more volume by turning up the individual tracks, but compression / limiting is likely to be needed fair soon to avoid the peaks distorting.
If Ableton can normalise (close) to 0db, that's easier.
Quite a complex subject, but reading up on mastering is probably a good start.
"loudness wars" may make interesting side-reading, too... -

I'm guessing that the scale length is much shorter than a stock P/J, so the side dots (if there are any) will be out? Or is it simply modeled with a longer fingerboard than stock, running up to 30 frets in scale or so?

I would have assumed it would be the latter - probably decent for getting some decent DB tones when playing on top of the fingerboard... -
I think that's the lowest price yet!
edit: bargain obviously, someone buy it before he changes his mind and resets it to £10m asking price... -

Interested in this too.... best 6 string set I've tried have been DR hi-beam.
ps this is a US site but may be of interest.... http://www.bassstringsonline.com/6-String_c_12.html -
Out of interest, how does this compare to your Thumb NT, tone-wise?

This is well on the way to turning out as one of the prettiest acoustics I've ever seen! Great job!

Has been on gumtree a while, and I can't figure out if I like it or not!! Thoughts?

More than 5
My strat has a mod that allows neck pickup to be added to any pickup (same as Dave Vader by the sounds of it), plus there is also the humbucker mod I wired up - which converts N+M and M+B into humbuckers and bypasses the volume pot to get a bit more treble. I call it the "phat" mod So I think that's 10 combinations in total, of which I quite like 6...
The position I like the least is the middle-coil on its own, and the two "all coils" combinations aren't that useful IMO.... -
Mr Black's Eterna reverb may be worth looking into if you may want to try something more ambient / esoteric

thankfully Brighton is far from me

Sold Sansamp to Alan. Very smooth transaction. Best, Roman

Worst bass I've ever seen.

Looks like the best hard-case ever!
-
Nice, but unlikely to be "£2k nice" on second hand market.
-
I think that's really nice.

Not sure this is helpful, but could "Boyd" be the signature of an artist (who did the artwork only?), as opposed to the luthier?
Maybe try the TalkBass forum if you expect there to be a US connection.
No ideas other than that! -
Mesa Dial Caliber amps are quite underrated but really are superb IMO. Somewhere between Mark IV and Dual Rec in terms of heavy tone, with a really nice clean channel. GLWTS.

Very good for power metal.

I'd try to find out how it got there! worst case scenario is that someone routed in an extra pickup outside of the factory and screwed up.... as someone else noted above, more likely is that it is a bridge pickup (with wider spacing) in place of a neck pickup (though I don't think Wal would let the bass leave the factory like that, so someone must have at least swapped pickups?)
if routing is fine, it may just take sending to Wal and persuading them to swap pickups - assuming it bothers you enough.
TBH I'm sure it's fixable, it just becomes a question of how much and what you'd be "able to live with"....

I'm sure you'd want to get looking perfect, but if it's any consolation, the finish imperfection is looking remarkably like the top of my 1970's Martin D28. Potential relic'ing technique?
