Just got one myself an astounding bass for the money , neck is almost jazz profile , great tone , i am happy with the pups i just changed over to Elixir strings lowered the action . and sorted.

Just purchased this bass will let you guys know how it goes.

I have to admit the walnut version sounds and plays awesome.

When i was a Bouncer at the Glasgow Apollo in the early 80's the bass from ub40 was the same he played a steinberger at that gig. far too much bass and i like bass !!!

you really need to own one to appreciate the differences, as it takes time to find them, the 4003w has a slightly warmer gnarly edge that my 4003 jetglo does not have, my jetglo has the classic ric growl, i think a lot of bass players who don't like ric's will like the walnut.

Stu , you really are talking nonsense now. i couldn't care less to be very honest with you if rics were for sale on here or not . at least i have an interest in the instrument i am not just on here to wind folks up. i own and play Rickenbacker they are great instruments , i don't care what john hall says if i can sell my bass here or anywhere else, if i want to sell a ric i will sell it with no one's help. i just think it adds more interest to the for sale section if there were genuine rics for sale for other guys on the forum to buy them, i can get a hold of rics anytime i want. so it does not affect me personally for your information. cheers

we should end this here it isn't getting anywhere, apart from certain members trying to wind other members up. you can't buy or sell Rickenbacker Basses on Bass chat that is it no point dragging it on.

This has all blown out of proportion to be honest. it is getting nonsensical now. common sense is the key. when folks start going on about legal fee's etc it is a nonsense. John Hall likes to Bark that is it.

I have sold plenty of Rickenbacker's on BC and every single buyer was chuffed with their purchase most folks on here and are genuine sellers/buyers, fake rics are easy to identify, and there are plenty of ric players on here who would soon point out a faker so i don't think it is an issue, the simple solution is if you suspect a bass is fake remove it, end of problem. you just don't allow fake rics to be advertised in the first place solves the problem here. And if the odd one slips through it would soon be spotted. Guys like myself always look at ric,s for sale anyway whether buying or not. i don't see the problem.

As a ric user all my adult life , i find it a shame it has come to this, politics should never come into this. if i were to listen or pay attention to John Hall's attitude even toward genuine ric users/owners, i would never play a ric again !!!! i play a ric because i like the style of the bass and the tone that it produces, you either hate them or love them, John Hall cannot stop anyone selling a ric bass or a replica in the uk the only part of the bass that had a patent was the headstock design. and that has probably expired. i think it is all hot air . i don't like the crappy copies around but there were some good copies made of the 4001!! if you are a Bass/Guitar manufacturer, i would say you just have to expect copies of your instruments it is part of the business and rather moaning about copies i would be more concerned about improving the product i have out on the market at the moment . cheers Geo

Bc i would say is one of the safest places to buy anything from Basses, and other audio equipment, i can say i have had nothing but superb results buying equipment here and there is a trust which cannot be found anywhere else, i just wish ric's would be included. why should John Hall decide what is for sale on Bass chat. because in reality that's what's happened here.

John Hall has won either way you look at it, he does not care one jot if rics are advertised on here or not, it will not affect him in the slightest, the losers are the genuine advertisers, buyers and sellers !!!

thanks to Hiram for the wonderful comments !!! not having rics for sale on BC makes the for sale section boring, same old basses for sale week after week. and i want to advertise the latest walnut model to annoy Hiram.

Nice one Ricky my 2013 jetglo is no slouch but i think my walnut has the edge, a bit more grunt to the sound. congrats on the new bass.

Muzz,, agreed there are dogs out there it is like any other bass, as a ric user i have noticed that QC is getting better at ric. as i am the first to complain if it aint. obviously a ric is not for you!!! and another thing about rics are that they don satisfy immediately, it takes a bit of time and work to get them playing and sounding the way you want them to. i have just got the neck and action sorted on this walnut it took a few days but it is there now and will stay that way until i move it. it is as good as anuy other good ric i have owned. unfortunately you have been unlucky !! if you played one of my 4003's i think you would feel different. cheers
