Isn’t that exactly what Andytravis says above ? Got a dremmel? … carve a slot into the “head” of what’s left. Flat head screwdriver…get it started out and then back it out… -

Thanks to the guru @Andyjr1515and also @Reggaebassi did my p bass in about an hour for 10£ or so in tools - eBay link in thread above - these were totally adequate

I just bought a fret crowning file and a sanding block - total cost around £10 and 90 minutes or so
