  1. I've rough sanded it and flashed some white spirit over it to see the flaws more clearly. I have got rid of some imperfections in the original state, but I have realised just how open-pored the paulownia is. There is only so much good I can do with sanding. Lesson learned. Sadly the idiot ebay seller of the primer didn't answer the phone, and did not respond to ebay messages and has sent the primer anyway, so I have to use it. I did ask if grey would work better but he didn't bother reading. I'm going to fine sand, and then grain fill as best I can with what I have left and then put cellulose primer on and flat it to try and even things out texture wise.
  2. Probably a thin coat of clear, I’ve not decided really i have a bit of grain filler left
  3. Ok, I just don’t want to run out...,won’t the finish look a bit bumpy without primer ?
  4. ok thanks - that's two conflicting pieces of advice then right now I'm busily sanding. I've got the Olympic white, I'm awaiting dispatch of the primer.
  5. Doesn’t it say “advanced acrylic formulation”?
  6. Like the way you’ve rubbed the brown shoe polish into the white edges of the Tort to relic it up properly ...
  7. Ok I’m after a cheap nitro white primer then, any pointers chaps ?
  8. I’ve bought Olympic white car paint I think I need primer probably grey - does anyone know if I can mix hycote and nitro top coat ?
  9. The olympic white paint has arrived. I do not know if I should use primer, or if a layer of sanding sealer or lacquer would do. I guess its all about using less paint because youve primed with a similar colour? I want the thinnest possible colour coat.
  10. Agree, definitely punch above their weight
  11. Someone stole your bass and parked a fiesta ST in its place
  12. ok, after my epic failure with translucent finish (reach for the sky... ) I am busily rubbing the paint off. Its thin, so its coming off easily. Why am I taking it off, you ask? Spraying a thin coat made me realise that the finish wasnt good enough and I could do better, The white paint that remains shows me where more work is needed. Its going to go off-white and opaque. But, its going to be thin, very thin.
  13. A fresh dish sponge worked for me
  14. I’m really impressed with the illuminati that come here, we have Jerry scheff, mani and @Jeff Berlin amongst others.
  15. Where did you get the white wood dye?
  16. I tried and failed with trans white spray laquer, interested to see how you do it. Loooking at tinted danish oil
  17. I've never noticed an issue with the BBOt on my precision, it sustains forever. @Christine says "A lightweight bridge will vibrate more " but I don't see that as truth simply because its screwed to the body; surely it might make the body vibrate differently and it might have its own saddles vibrate sympathetically if they were loosely fitted, in a different way. Perhaps the qualities of the metal in a cheaper bridge of equal weight might make a difference, albeit a miinor one. I honestly think its minimal at best and the £130 bridges you see advertised are truly overkill when a wilkinson will do the job
  18. Having had both I much prefer this to butt end adjustment
