  1. Theres nothing worse than learning beginner bad habits by trying to figure it out yourself and making your bass life so hard that you end up with hand or shoulder pain, or just as bad, discouraged I wish I’d had an early lesson or two
  2. There is no set amount of time, or even rule of thumb. Natural talent takes you further and in less time. Those less blessed (me) need to practice things till you can’t get them wrong. I’d suggest a teacher to help you over the rocky bits
  3. Welcome, at 50 or so you’re a junior around here. Isn’t Glossop “league of gentlemen” territory ?
  4. Brave, brave Sir Robin
  5. That sounds like an admirable mix, I’m glad that you’ve walked away from “The Dark Side” to the path of the righteous man (or woman) bass is like musical glue, without it music would fall apart but guitards don’t get that
  6. For the record I’m bucking the age trend away from “a large serving of years” At a mere 56 marking me out as a mere stripling
  7. I was never encouraged to do music. My parents were both musical but just couldn’t be bothered I was inspired to bass by watching Adam Clayton at live aid. I’m no more talented now than I was then but I live the feeling of “filling out the sound”
  8. Another one bites the dust… see what I did there ?
  9. Mine came with ordinary batteries (still in there) and it’s not given me any trouble at all in six months
  10. Sire v7-5string also would be my choice
  11. You aren’t the real @AndyTravis
  12. I’d lose that. @AndyTravis would be my bet
  13. Absolutely I am not doing that or even trying to do it. This is sascha’s thread
  14. You’re welcome, I’ve been there. People knew what my father was like, but he was so likely to resort to the law of libel if they said anything he didn’t like that they kept quiet. He hospitalised a girlfriend such that her kids didn’t recognise her i think that my point is that there is some therapy in knowing you weren’t the only one it happened to (so less “why me?”)
  15. I get that totally. People used to think my father was great too. Small village back then is not dissimilar to Facebook situation now
  16. I see, perhaps @sascha peakman your name was confused innocently with Sascha Bennett. I get why you were upset though, not taking away any of your righteous anger about Lorne
  17. Spoilsport. I know what Andrew would say, it wouldn’t be pretty
  18. So where is this thread ? Did it get deleted ? There are several that mention “lorne”
  19. I didn’t see this original contentious thread, though I do see some parallels with my own past. Well done @sascha peakman for saying it.
  20. I cannot. It comes from being shot with a camera - the verb induces the condition
  21. I only bought one thing this year (see above) and unwittingly assisted lee650 by doing so. (. 👍) Having bought exactly nothing in 15 years I feel pretty good about my mean abstinence rate when factored in over a lifetime. That one purchase was therefore a statistical blip and not significant in statistical terms. I therefore feel a prince Andrew style entitlement to reinstatement (despite the actual facts) - strange parallel there 🧐
  22. You’re fitting in very well 👍
  23. Wedge a mars bar under it. Or some guitarist-talent
  24. Do it, is my advice i was listening to it at OM night, passive, mostly front pup through a PA and it sounded immense the neck on the five string is superb and i like the close spacing
