  1. Is he not a little patch way out west ? *you need to have listened to kd Lang on “home on the range” movie
  2. Sounds like poor earthing rather than EM interference
  3. Do you actually need to shield a p bass ?
  4. Not for the entire 70s, no. It depends exactly when it was made and even then they frequently used up old parts out of order and after changes were supposed to have happened. It’s not uncommon for pots and pickups to predate their instrument by a few years http://www2.fender.com/experience/tech-talk/what-is-micro-tilt/
  5. I’m getting arthritis in my two plucking fingers - thumb mis probably what I’ll end up doing as I refuse to use a pick .
  6. was the lovely Katie Humble there ?
  7. I'm sorry I should have read the thread more closely. I would have gone for the Fender model as I like the slight click-feel as it drops out of circuit. CTS doesn't do that. I'm using a "Blues tribute" model that I bought from ebay (seller is in the US but ships quickly) - with a fender brass grounding plate in the back of the pup. Here is his link on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/ONLYMUSIC-BLUES-TRIBUTE-VINTAGE-PRECISION/dp/B00DC9FI58 - he does jazz and 51 style also -they're very reasonably priced. It wasn't expensive but it sounds really thumpy yet also woody. I don't have a valve amp but its the kind of tome (when on full) that would overdrive just nicely. I do know from personal experience that through a zoom b2.1 on the Ampeg SVT patch it sounds "totally awesome" (in the words of a young lady there who said wisely "we need more bass around here") , it made cups and glasses rattle quite nicely even at low-ish volume. I'm happy.
  8. Why don’t you get a no load Fender tone pot? As stated above standard size, normal looks but at “9” you can feel a very slight detente as the pot drops out of circuit and the signal bypasses it. I have one in my bass doc p and it’s fabulous http://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/cts-split-shaft-no-load-tone-potentiometer-250k-or-500k-for-stratocaster-telecaster-guitars/?utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_source=bc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrouNv4Ld1wIVBLvtCh3xnggzEAQYASABEgLDrPD_BwE http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk//parts-c4/electronics-c698/potentiometers-c109/fender-no-load-250k-solid-shaft-pot-tone-p5295?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrouNv4Ld1wIVBLvtCh3xnggzEAQYBCABEgLciPD_BwE#fo_c=1949&fo_k=e8fe8947d3958445f1c907a1c89b6e87&fo_s=gplauk?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=
  9. I had one @ £80 where I literally fixed the earth wire and sold it on for more (£130). Gave my partner the money to treat herself to something. Seller happy, buyer happy, partner happy. Yes he should have asked to re-use the photos in an ideal world but that’s life

  11. If I can offer one piece of advice here, its to play slower and with very deliberate control, making sure that you don't do it. That way you will unlearn the bad habit fairly quickly. Speed comes naturally, but playing better at a higher speed comes with control.... young Padawan.
  12. you'd be surprised what OM night attendees will tolerate and still cheer wildly
  13. quite the compliment when coming from you, Constantine.
  14. get yourself to an open mic night and take your bass. I guarantee you'll be the only bass player there, even if you don't play firs time. People will talk to you. Girls will swoon** etc I got chatting to someone and we ended up picking a tune on the night each time, looking it up on our phones and doing the best we could with it there and then. A huge rush, and totally legal. ** possibly
  15. go for it, mister. I have small children; I'll be very much middle aged before I get to do much with my bass, so you're not alone.
  16. can you explain your riposte/approval or disavowal of my point a little better ? I really don't get your meaning.
  17. i too admire his skill and fluency with the instrument. However his usage of it leave me uninspired; its not what I think bass playing is. If you listen to african music where they successfully marry a recurring and prominent bass groove with some lyrical or melodic flourishes, that what I think it should be. Not polite and hidden, not overbearing and pointlessly flashy.
  18. black grain filler is often used on natural or transparent finishes. Thats a really nice piece of wood, you got lucky there.
