  1. i learn from reading schematics and I learned from this discussion so I will join in the "thank you" chorus also. If I say it again, i will make up for @fleabag not doing do.
  2. Have you even seen an engine with no oil to seep out of the sump? Analogise my stockpile of talent to that oil.
  3. well, he isn't clear, but its my fault for not asking more questions. The lug distance is 30mm according to him, and standard would be 28mm - so its my fault for not checking the lug distance when I checked the cavity size. I can't neg him for that, however unhelpful he has been, he isn't actually wrong. Norris works on the next floor to me. He has been very helpful.
  4. i did, and he not very clearly states the (non standard) distance to lug. Norris has kindly offered loan of his curved chisels i will not neg the seller, but will review the product stating that whilst llight the pickup cavity won't take a standard bridge pup. Its something I would have wanted to know.
  5. Someone made a real hash of that earth soldering - did fender used to employ stevie wonder?
  6. they did - I recall them being on Blue Peter The bass player had a lovely natural P bass
  7. i like her, she sounds cool
  8. @Norris has very kindly taken the time to check his jazz basses' pickups for me, all match my Geddy Lee pickups for dimensions. I think this is one I'm going to land back in the seller's lap to resolve.
  9. ignore me there : ... always read to the end of the thread....
  10. yes, that's me - a Sahara where talent is concerned.
  11. There is indeed only one Coalvile . I hadn't thought of curved chisels. Paulownia is very soft. That's a good suggestion and thank you also for the offer. Norris is kindly measuring his jazz bass pups for me so I can reply to the seller with "See? right size, wrong lugs" and be right, rather than look an idiot.
  12. No it’s wrong to put closed covers on If you can’t see the pole pieces how on earth Will any talent seep in ?
  13. Go and wash your mouth out RIGHT NOW you filthy scumbag. Closed covers? Heresy ! I’m still left with the lug location problem
  14. he says he will sell me a pickup (don't want it, as I have Geddy Lee models), but it seems even his pickup covers are a different size. summary - the rear pickup cavity is the right size, but the lugs cutouts are in the right spot for a neck pickup. I've asked him to measure the covers he has for pole piece spacing, in case he can just send me a cover that fits his body . His poles are sadly 2mm further in. up a certain creek then
  15. Just dump them in a tub of vinegar and green toilet duck for a few days - it’s not tricky
  16. I’d replace them with something similar and keep the parts. Maybe relic the replacements so they don’t look odd?
  17. Alex James called bass “musical glue”
  18. I’m with you, I’ve owned guitars but never with any great enthusiasm i sold them all recent cent to build a jazz bass. Go figure
  19. luckily one of my few talents is fluency in german, thanks for posting that
  20. and they get paid a lot
  21. you can buy copper shielding tape with conductive glue on ebay for about £4 - its a lot less hassle.
  22. @Hellzero @dannyboy @Jimothey you don't need to do this if you use the copper tape with conductive adhesive. I just use a multimeter to check there is connectivity between each piece and the jack socket, and then switch to the resistance setting to check that resistance is low.
  23. Anyone?
  24. You can always join the pieces with solder
