Personally I don't like relicing but I think a naturally worn bass increases a players credibility no end.
That's one bass that I really like the look of.
But IIRC the "wear" pattern is exactly the same on all the Flea Jazz Basses which doesn't makes them unique at all ;-)
It's like they were all made in a factory or something

i have a fake relic and I've done some of it myself. I rounded the neck edges and sanded the back down a bit and its a lot more comfortable to play. I refuse to baby a bass, it s a tool and I'm not going to wrap it in cotton wool. As long as I don't damage its working parts I really dont see why its a problem to have it look a certain way.

E bay...where have all the bargains gone?
Geek99 replied to theplumber's topic in General Discussion
This morning I heard a radio ad. Declaring EBay as the place to sell your old stuff to clear a bedroom. So maybe that business model is getting shaky? I always thought eBay was good for selling nationally and Gumtree for sellimg locally. This weekend I put up an electronic piano on Gumtree. Folk were calling from up to 70 miles away!
I had someone drive all the way from Tooting to the yorkshire border to buy something, On a friday night. In heavy rain. In principle however, I would agree with Mr G. Its very noticeable how the bargains have dropped off, I was doubting my sanity and thinking I'd been missing them,. -
Nice I'd like it in sunburst

He does say that in his listing to be fair
ETS do a piezo although it may only fit their own headless bridge system. I'll be following this thread as I've had similar intentions bubbling away.
https://m.thomann.de/gb/abm_3710c_p_single_bass_piezo_cr.htm?o=4&search=1486675894
I spent all day looking at piezos but they don't fit the headless system I have. If you can point me in the direction of a system that would fit I'd be very appreciative..
Just bury an Acoustic piezo under the nut ? You'd need to extend the cable
-
Piezo in the bridge ? Piezo bridges are fairly easy to find If you mean in the nut, can't you use an acoustic guitar piezo? They make quite small ones for use and mandolin that would likely fit and they're only a few quid

If you look at the p bass listing from same seller he says it's real celluloid
Maybe there's two gnomes, right hand gnome to strike the strings and left hand gnome to run up and down the fret board?
Isn't that dusty hill of zz top?

in my case, compared to the other instruments at OM night, fat enough to be sliced up and served with a napkin and some chitchat

I'm sure they will. To be honest I'm content to build my own fender style bass from parts or to aspire to own old ones. I'm not sure that the current FMIC, endlessly re-peddling the same old stuff, is exactly what Leo had in mind.

ok - -its fitted and working You can join the piezo cables - its just a wire core and a earthing sleeve. I used a simple connector block from Wilkos. Rigid piezos are way better that the cable ones as shown in my picture - the saddle doesnt wobble. The new piezo is a bit taller than the original one but i used it since it looks more robust. This means the strings are a bit high. The onboard tuner is brilliant - works very well. I didnt use the compensated saddle in the end - i hadnt noticed that the saddle is seated at a slant and I think this may be good enough. issues remaining - the saddle sits high and will need to be sanded down by at least 1mm - probably more. Bit concerned that this will reduce the already slim break angle even further - pictures tomorrow.
Maybe you should show her you're a keeper by not going for the most expensive thing you can find
good point.
Personally I think you've shot yourself in the foot leaving it so long without complaining as there's a chance that they won't take responsibility for the damage, so my advice would be to contact them directly about the issue as soon as!
yep - too much water under the bridge to be reasonable. You should have taken photos as soon as you got it back, just to prove you didnt knacker it, and no one else did since either. Still talk to the guy though, and see if you can hammer out a compromise. Maybe he was having some personal issues at the time and didnt do his best work. Its been known before.

i like the look of both and I do occasionally play with my thumb so it is useful when doing that. take it off if you don't like it.

It's not one that I find easy This topic has brought back memories, this was the tune I chose in Greenwich Connecticut and tried to learn on a hired classical guitar one hot summer long long ago
Thank you I ordered a cheap one and will report back Does anyone have an opinion on bone nuts or compensated saddles ? Edit: I've ordered a cheapie compensated nut to try also
Annoyingly I found the original piezo on the gravel today while reroofing the shed - must have fallen from my pocket days ago
I had hoped to do that but as I said, despite turning up well before the official 9pm start, the organiser was already on stage doing his thing and there was no-one else to do ensemble with. I am given to understand that last night is not typical of the venue. Being a weekly open mic and being in Derby, it has good catchment and I reckon it is worth sticking with for this phase of my development.
It takes time to find people - I had several weeks where I couldnt find anyone as everyone seem to be in a clique already, or that I had no confidence to do a solo spot (I feel bass IS an ensemble instrument), once people noted how bass filled out a performance (I really enjoyed upstaging those weedy solo acoustics), and once performers got a better response, it was easier to find people to play along with. Be patient is my advice, leave your bass out in sight of all and someone will invite you.Me? I absolutely loved watching people clapping or tapping or even just nodding. Lots of people told me bass made a nice change to hear.

I usually pick something on the night with my acoustic guitarist chum and we rough it out in the corridor then wing it. Someone in the audience asked where we find the time to practice ** "practice?" I said ** more down to their low standards I suspect than any innate talent or skill or indeed adherence to musical norms
