1. It's not obvious in that pic, mine has bright silver jaws which is what I gauged by
2. You can buy a jap model for less if you don't want it reliced to some degree
3. If you look on Amazon you can get this with a string cutter attached
4. I am totally careless with mine - I have small children who help with this
5. Cnc I'm getting my bass reliced soon - in a nitro finish I won't give a damn if it gets knocked or scratched or bumped
6. Look at the roadworns - pretty much identical
7. 46 I can't imagine how this has happened
8. Yep Steel just didn't work Fender acoustic bass strings work really well on mine and don't break bank
9.
Any advice ? Do I need to use grain filler ? Body is sunburst now, bare wood in places but acrylic paint - flakes off easily though
To clarify, it comes off easily with the side of a knife, it's not flaking of its own accord So can I clarify advice for rattle cans ? Grain filler possibiy Clear coat Amber coat Black edges Red stripe browning out to edges Clear coats Is that correct ?
10. He is not expected to fully understand the morals - doli capax starts at ten and tapers up
11.
The info I've been given is the shop bought it in good faith from a young lad and his mum. The estranged father / husband is now claiming it is his bass and he only lent it to his son and wants it back. I have some issues with this: The shop must have had it for some time before trying to move it on eBay, then the auction was a 7 day auction so there was plenty of time to reclaim it from the shop; also I can't shake the feeling they want it back as they've had a better offer elsewhere... It was a pretty good bargain.
They are doing the right thing I think you are the "first buyer without notice" - until now that is You should return it for the refund, having notified the local police that you are doing so.
12.
Why the Poly coat? Fender do this on certain models due to mass production - spraying all instruments colour coats with Poly then clear coating Nitro on just the models which offer it (not many!). That way they get to offer a Nitro finish easily . It also helps with finish checking having the Poly basecoat. But you can't get Polyester/good urethane in rattle cans and it could introduce incompatibility issues depending on the brand, so it's not really a good idea. You're also missing a large very important part from that sequence....the clear coats! They go on last . You need to strip it if it is flaking, or no matter what you paint over it, it will end up lifting or chipping. You should be able to assess from there if it'll require grain filling (or posting a pic). Alder is probably a possibility, if so it won't need grain filling. Make sure your prep work is faultless, as the finish will magnify imperfections. Then you can spray your burst, here's a good article on the process to give you the order of things http://www.stewmac.c...rosol_cans.html
thanks for this
13. thats so utterly beyond my meagre skills...but I keep imaging the look on the attendees at the local church OM night if I arrived with that. I mean, they were totally boosted to "Wow" by a mere four string precision on "loud".... GLWTS
14.
Fender 9050 flats are the business. I've never been happier with a string, and I used nickels for years beforehand.
Yes agree
15. I think bravewood are more than that
16. Nice work - i dont want sunken grain though It comes off easily with the blunt side of a kitchen knife - im sure its acrylic or poly although its quite thin. I want something thin, old looking and sunburst so it breaks out to relic in record time. I accept poly isnt going to do that. I hear you can get crazing by putting the nitro painted body in the freezer so ill try that too
17. I'm not sure what wood -I'll post a picture
18. Any advice ? Do I need to use grain filler ? Body is sunburst now, bare wood in places but acrylic paint - flakes off easily though
19. I recommend a rub down with the green tougher side of a normal pan sponge
20. agree with machines above - they just work and its a sound people just recognise. I played mine flat and wide open througha Zoom B2 on ampeg (slightly) and a PA and it rocked. Its sounded fatter than augustus gloop at a chocolate eating contest.
21. i only have one Precision, with Warwick Red rounds on it - if I was into flats as well, I could conceive of needing two maximum. I know one BC member has 15 precision basses. My partner heard him say this and said "dont get any ideas about that...." - she tolerates four basses as long as they bring different things to the party. However, if you earned the money, and its a good price where you're not being scalped, have whatever you like.
22. Foo fighters apparently I wouldn't be swayed by a name but I could be influenced over by it to try a style of instrument I wouldn't have considered before - a Hofner for example
23. good work there maybe you should start taking commissions?
