Nice It's a big price item and such things take time to sell, even "normal" modern items aren't selling quickly
3. How lucky it's not still sunburst or I would have been forced to sell children in order to buy it
4.
How do they do that lacquer crazing ? Nice though
I've since read that this can be done by putting the body in a freezer overnight then warming it up quickly. Apparently you rub shoe polish in whilst the body is still cold
5. Looks just like mine although my plate didn't have thumb rest holes
6. The rosewood precision has what I wanted but you've also made me realise that there is significant variation in red
7. Thanks it's actually not too far off
8.
Well it's back home after a 3 hour round trip. Sound great. Desperately needs a set up, clean and a new set of strings so it's off down the local shop as with one year old baby I don't get time for such things.
I hear that ...
9.
That's a fair point about the cutouts looking a bit scruffy - I was more thinking about the colour to be honest, which looks ok to me.
This is what I wanted thanks - comments on colour from owners of the real thing, 70s red tort was what I wanted It's not quite the dark wine red colour I wanted but it's not bad colour wise. Cutout issues were easily solved I can't justify paying spitfire7s prices and I don't have time to make a decent job out of a blank wd tort sheet. Bass doc did point me towards some ultra red stuff they do (when he did my build) but I can't spare the time to make one.
10.
Sorry - but it looks cheap to me & judging by the close up around the jack socket it doesn't look very well cut either, I'd suggest you didn't pay a lot for it
Some wire wool resolved that A lot of looked like burrs was actually plastic film
11. What are people's (constructive!) thoughts on its quality ? Vintage tort owners please also comment https://www.dropbox.com/s/e5cmzq5jy9pbskd/file%2012-06-2015%2019%2047%2032.jpeg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/jloubtndjt8x34j/file%2012-06-2015%2019%2047%2018.jpeg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/zy535o84p2dc7rk/file%2012-06-2015%2019%2046%2038.jpeg?dl=0 Thanks
12. What do those knobs do ? Is the placing logical ? Nice woodwork though and ckearly very nice timber and work
13. If they bought out a sunburst precision with tort and a jazz maple neck and a really good heavy relic I might be tempted (at a decent price) Mike dirnt sells loads at a low price point
14.
The chap on guitar spent most of the time with his back to everyone else farting around with a multitude of pedals. This approach appeared to work rather well.
Quite normal I hear Local OM is run by church so not quite the scam Blue describes luckily, and I am "the only bass player in this village" so I just have to get a slot I can stay late for They gave me 10:10 last time which is a non starter due to home commitments
15. Good call I might give it a try
16.
It always seems to be in the city WH Smiths when I don't want it, but never in the airport ones when I want one
Medium sized WHS have it and I even found it at Euro tunnel terminal
17. They're much of a muchness imho If you get on with what you have, stick with it
18. I was responding after http://basschat.co.uk/user/32123-dfl3tch3r/ who responded earlier? Mr "cynical didn't read the thread properly before being sarcastic"
19.
So its like shimming a neck but you don't have to take the neck off?
Yes - a bolt bears on a metal plate in the neck heel to push it out
