1. I was thinking of doing this to my P a part of a very gentle relicing. I was also intrigued when Andy Till noticed the rolled edges immediatley on an US 2011 jazz bass I sold him. I hadnt known they were there, just that it was comfy to play. Any advice on sorting out the frets? (Hope youre still loving it, Andy, by the way) the OP says " it probably would be daft to attempt this on a bass with a maple fingerboard or any other where the fingerboard is lacquered" - I'm assuming that the laquer would crack. Would it still do so if the work was done gently with some wirewool ?
2.
I agree. This is a different issue altogether from the thumb one. The way to tackle this as stated above is to place the fingers very slowly and deliberatly onto then off of the frets.
Flying fingers is a sure sign of tension Read. "Serious electric bass" for exercises
3. I had the rosewood / mother of pearl version and it was brililjant. I regret selling it, and for just £550 too. Partner said she was happy for me to keep it but I wanted to free up the cash and pay it off the mortgage. Doh.
4. My Vintage Stingray clone has a very raw maple neck and its a sod to keep clean. I can suggest wirewool will take the glossiness of the neck down a peg or two if you do it gently with a fine gauge? Dont really like the green, but I do think they're good for the money, The nautral one looks good. .
5.
Probably - judging by the headstock it's pre-Fender lawsuit.
It is very fender. - can see why they sued
6.
I'd definitely pop along if it was in Northampton, could bring a few vintage Fenders and amps too if there was any interest. (I didnt see the original thread). Not sure if I'd have time to help set it up, I barely have time to sh*t these days, but would be happy to give my opinion and feedback on likely venues etc?
Wish it was further north - there's been two in Nottingham All the Bc Folk I have met have been very nice indeed
7.
The previous one was Abi Titmuss, and the current two are Emma Thompson and Victoria Coren.
Ah La belle Coren, didn't recognise her, or Abi as a brunette
8. Dingus, who are the ladies in the avatar ? And the previous one
9.
http://www.nashguitars.com/Images/Guitars/bass/JB63CARr3pw.jpg thats is sexy as! im all for natural wear tho doing that on my mody, its now a nice yellow close up, not bad in nearly 6 yrs. andy
I like it - although it would be nice too in an unmolested state
10. See my avatar** ? I'm happy to play something like that. Whether its real or faked, I just dont care. It just looks cool and as a poster or two noted above, the road worn basses are very comfy to play. If it makes you like playing bass then its cool with me. I also have mint basses. ** MarloweDK's jazz bass
11. I don't see that wear and dings acquired quickly are innately less worthy than ones acquired over years of accidents and use. If swift aging of your bass makes you feel better about playing your bass I don't see the issue with relic jobs
12. Saw the same concert I think. Definitely a jazz, send to recall it was sunburst
13. I was looking at this too, not faded sunburst for sure Broken binding on pic 9, I'm surprised by the wear pattern on the rear body pic too. DIY relic perhaps
14. Very nice, like the light mojo Can you tell me more about the wire wool job ? What grade? Can you see the work or dies it just look Matt rather than a bit relic Thanks
15. I don't think it makes a great deal of difference The string only vibrates between nut and saddle but I suppose with the extra string length you're making the bass marginally heavier so there might be a tiny advantage there but who regularly plays notes that are long enough for this to matter ?
16.
I'd spend that amount of money on the best vintage Fender I could find.
Totally agree Safe investment
17. I had a VM Precision and it was totally awesome
18. BWB is right I think if you want early 70s Look for Gary macs sale thread - he's selling a mint one I can't see the avatar too well on my iPhone but that looks like very nice tort
19.
Not really aggro, Talbo. You're asking a lot of money for a bass that you haven't provided details for. Would you part with £2200 to someone who couldn't take the time to provide pictures of the actual item?
+ 1 its fair comment on why your item Isn't shifting. You have an interested potential buyer, you should, in my very humble opinion, be doing your best to answer their questions if you want to trade with them and shift a high ticket item
20. Can't seem to find this on catchup ? Went to bed early last night as falling asleep on the sofa at 7pm was a good indicator of being too tired to stay up Yeah I know ...,
