I can't get rid of my sr16 as it was a present from My better half. IfI could do I would as it's a complete twat to program. You can't even associate a particular drum kit with a given song - you have to remember and switch it over manually

Covers bands "openers" what do you start with?
We start first set with a Proud Mary/Think/Kiss medley, then 2nd set with All Right Now, seems to work well. Last wedding we did there was a circle around a couple having a Tina Turner dance off on the dance floor, and that was the first song!
that sounds cool - I'd like to be playing bass for that one. -
I have the 62 reissue from 92 , bought from the late OldGit. It's quite simply brilliant - only minor issue was the noisy pickups but I put split coil humbuckers in series into it and they are simply stunning. I'd love a partner precision for it
If anything, Bass Direct would be your best chance of getting into the UK as far as I can tell you but no doubt it's easier said than done. Would be a major relief to retire this current beast and have something more reliable and prestigious as a Brubaker
I already mentioned them and others to tom - sorry to hear he's had no luck

what he actualy wanted was a bass then, not "another bloody guitar" - He could maybe sell the less useful 17/18ths of his collection to finance the worthwhile part he'd just bought.
The store has arranged for the bass to be picked up. It will hopefully be exchanged; next one will be inspected to see any issues by the store and I will get some pictures sent to me also.
Good result - if they sort it out perhaps you should give them some positive publicity ?
the other one up north is PMT in salford (sorry to name check the competion Andy) but nothing but the best in sevice advice and help there too. I'd be willing to bet the rest of the stores are the same... but that is a guess.
I've been to Salford PMT and they were very helpful. My little daughter left her bear there and they first-class posted it back to us gratis. Denmark street used to be great - I bought a Tokai strat and an Epiphone Les Paul in 1988 /89 there without any trouble at all. Now its just plain embarrassing.

With my legal head on, write and tell them you reject the goods as of unsatisfactory quality. Invite them to collect as soon as possible, if need be go see the citizens advice bureau But do it soon
-
Regardless it should have been checked by the store before despatch
-
True but maybe he lives miles and miles away from the supplier and had little choice I still say chuck it back
-
Throw it back, these faults would not be okay on a squier let alone a premium us made item

Maybe I'm being dumb but I couldnt find much bass content on that link apart from the spector/dingwall review and a bit about Doug Wimbish ? I'm a web programmer and I didnt think it was all that bad design-wise - perhaps a little too columnar. Id have liked to see it accessed via cascading menus to make it less busy. Audio coming out of your browser is a big problem for those of us who are reading at lunchtimes at work. Disturbs the other sheep - perhaps your developers could fix this to mute by default? @Dood
I think the £1500+ instrument reviews is more about letting people know what is out there, than actually telling them everything there is to know about a bass. And as I said before pretty much everyone can find out about all the sub £500 basses with a trip to their local musical instrument emporium.
Those of us who have one with a reasonable range , that is .... Sub £500 (new or used) is of interest to me. If it comes to me in the form of a magazine that helps me enormously as I have an active toddler and a disabled partner, going into a city isn't an option due to time constraints and those commitments. I don't particularly want to read reviews of £1500 basses as I will never buy one . I don't mind anyone else reading it tho. A good mix is what I would like to see, then I might restart my sub

Yes to all. I have a little behringer 8 channel model that I use to combine drum machine, mp3 and bass into headphones or amp. It has volumes for each channel and various types of input socket . It was about £90 new Thumbs up Edit : post above jogged my memory - its a xenyx 802 http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/802.aspx

Try "tux guitar" which allows you to open guitar pro files, write your own, and is totally free
-
Try PMing matte_black - he made some split coil humbuckers for me.
-
Cij 62 reissue jazz. It does it all - pickups were very noisy but I swapped them for splitcoil j models made by matte_black and it's a lot better Vintage stingray clone, the yellow paint/stain has faded terribly and the neck is a little wide. Id like a coil tap. Otherwise it's fine

He's coming round tomorrow to plaster our bedroom and ensuite ceiling (we have an artex eradication programme going on) so I'll haev a longer chat with him and see how it goes.

I have a hartke hydride 2 x 10 combo . Thinking of suggesting gnr patience (he uploaded a cover to YouTube) and I have a bass tab to learn from, and also acoustic 'midnight hour' because I can play it now. Practicetime is going to be a challenge due to my family commitments, but luckily my partner and his wife get on and kids are similar ages. I don't know if I have a singing voice - I suspect not.

I thnk, to be honest, that I am trying to talk myself out of it. I've played with other people once before, many years ago, and it was a disaster zone. I know I will feel very exposed - I'm at that "can hear riffs that I cant quite play yet" stage and I feel very awkward about it. I do rewite basslines in my head when I hear songs, and I do mentally put something over drums that I hear about the place, or in my head so I know I can do better than I can do now. Plasterer guy wants to "get back into gigging". I did manage to do a creditable version on bass of "stand by me" in a lesson with a teacher playing the guitar line, but I had no idea where my timing was, or rather, the notes were in the right-ish places musically but I had no idea where the beat was.

I have an offer to form an acoustic duo. My plasterer writes his own material and is a much, much better player than me. He's played in bands for years and I'm very much a learner who gets little to no time to practise. There is, as observed on another thread , nowhere to hide in a duo I dont want to play acoustic bass but maybe I can use a quiet jazz bass
