1. I had the HS4, which is roughly the same as the Legend series. Nice pickups, good electronics, very slim neck indeed and it never went out of tune. Bridge easy to restring as the strings are caught by the bridge, not threaded through like a Fender. Good range of tones. It was very nice indeed and good value, but wasnt quite right for me.Too traditional in my taste perhaps.
2.
Keep your favourite fretted bass, sell the Cort and some other fretted gear, then treat yourself to an amazing fretless maybe? ... and you know that you want an amazing fretless ....
Isnt he saying that his fretless is a Cort and he loves it already ? I cant see why he would sell it, based on what he says.
3. If you can afford it, consider the classic 50s/60s/70s series. Been very impressed every time I've tried one of those.
4.
I thought she had her dad's actual Precision(s).
She does, in a BGM interview she said fender made her copies to take on road with Pink.
5. I thought she just used a fender copy of her dads 62 precision ?
6. I had an HS4 and it was very nice - flamed maple top and good electronics
7.
It all depends what you want from the finished bass. If you want something that looks, plays and sounds like a vintage Fender, there's only one solution
I disagree, you can Lego genuine parts to make a good replica My vague replica plus some clever paint has fooled a lot of people
8.
Keep the P, you're Dad bought it for you. It'll be priceless to you one day.
Yep once they're gone, all you have left is momentoes and regrets. Keep all the momentoes you can, while you can. The rest are replaceable
9.
If every other part is original 70s Fender, then source the genuine article! You know you should!
Fleabay .... There's one on there right now
10.
I got a 2006 MIM Jazz in sunburst. Plays amazing, sounds amazing and says Fender. Does the job.
I have a 1992 mex jazz and it's fine - I know there are some dogs. I have never played a bad US but I have seen the mex output really up its game in the last few years. I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen with one.

15. It didn't slip my mind at all, Mr G Sunburst, which I like , (genuine) relic looks, which I like, Will I like it once I've got it playing right instead of like a Jameson-reject ? Don't know but It's a contender, that much is sure
16. I discovered that a simple precision was all I needed. I do fancy a jazz bass but haven't found one yet that I really like Edit: there was a jap 75 reissue I regret letting go
17. Ok thanks will set them level relative to bridge Ill measure my precisions neck relief at 12th for reference Can someone advise a standard gap in mm at 12th when holding string at 1st and 20th ?
18. no, it says "For fender" on it. - so dont think it was made by Fender themselves. Do recall a story that early basses were resprayed by the importers and put in locally produced "licenced" cases before distribution. I read it on here. Seems to be made of fibreboard or very heavy cardboard.
19. I think it was actually to mimic the fingerbvaord radius. I looked at my p bass and all the saddles are virtually in a line, so all strings amost exactly the same length. I havent changed it since the bass doc set it up. I think though that if I move the jazz's saddles very much that although the action will change and become lower it will go out of intonation The screws are definitely at a more extreme angle than my precision
20.
I've just checked my Squier Active Deluxe Jazz and the saddle intonation adjustment screws and string hole locations look to be in the same place as the bridge on your Fender. All of the long saddle screws angle down slightly, with the G the most affected, the only difference is I set my saddles horizontal (the bridge has shallow channels for the saddle height screws to run in).
Ok but the screws are at a steep angle so I can't set them level I'll measure my p bass strung length and set the jazz saddles to match as a rough start Intonation is spot on though
21. See 8:47 last night ? http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/geek99/library/morcheeba%20jazz%20
22. Yes it was - the intonation is now spot on. However the angle of the screws is what it is due to the hole positioning
23. I just bought this bass - previously used by the bassist in morcheeba and toured extensively http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/geek99/library/morcheeba%20jazz%20 It's a bit roadworn
