I imagine none of it should touch the shielding. Doesn’t the resistor or capacitor need to go a certain way around ? I vaguely recall one leg is shorter than the others though I may be thinking of transistors

True and a good point. Maybe you can find a less amazing singer who can also play violin or harmonica or some-such, an additional string to his/her bow that takes you in a new direction
