  1. When I went to one where I used to live myself and one guitarist used to agree a song on the night and just do the best version we could - that worked
  2. There’s two, run by different people who know each other. One is in a pub in town and the other in community centre. I was told by host at the one in town that he often goes to the other and that they need a bass player; however he has never actually turned up any time I’ve gone there so each I spend an hour listening to kids playing violins and guys in their late 60s playing Rihanna songs on acoustic guitars. No one seems to be hosting it. Seems it starts at 8 and is fixed in stone at that point - I cannot get there for 8 due to kids bedtime i have more chance of playing at the one in town but it’s a bit of a step and goes on pretty late which isn’t good as I have to be up at 6 every day and I have chores to do when I get home and don’t want to wake the dogs if everyone is asleep does anyone know a decent OM night around coalvile, groby, Markfield ?
  3. Everyone of those that I’ve had has been excellent - it’s more cosmetics though, than anything like vintage voiced pups
  4. Sure but I was explaining this as the OP seemed unsure of what meterman intended. Personally I’ve never had a conductivity issue but maybe I’ve been lucky
  5. He means get a long thin strip and turns the ends over so copper, not glue, meets copper, and any potential areas of poor conductivity are removed
  6. Welcome to the Light … I recommend any Motown and 80’s/90s rock and pop .. Del amitri, Duran Duran, tears for fears, Elvis Costello, AC/DC
  7. Not true - you get three months with eBay, six with PayPal I’ve had PayPal cover it where eBay did not. ebay - worth calling them first before you contact seller to ask what you should do and get them to add notes about your call so next agent you talk to know you’re doing it their approved way and have sought advice
  8. No - your understanding of “check” is correct (but “check” can also mean hold/stop/wait as in chess; “check mate”) English is very confusing - I’m IELTS grade 9 and I’m certain it’s the most ambiguous, contextual language I’ve ever seen - I pity learners of it edit - I spoke to a Ukrainian refugee lady last week at an open mic night. She was very apologetic about her command of English but she could use definite and indefinite article and numerous tenses, from speaking a native language with no usage of the first two. She didn’t believe how advanced she actually was. I’ve seen native English speakers who can muster less. @ymdtzxstop knocking yourself down for lack of fluency, you’re doing just fine
  9. Partner totally doesn’t get it. It’s “pi55ing around with guitars” (I know, totally insulted, liked I’d be seen dead with a 6 stringed toy version of a bass) but major moment of my life was playing live for first time and watching the glasses behind the bar rattle as I sound-checked and playing along with a guitarist to a song that had people up and dancing, and thinking “I’m making that happen” “would you do it again?” She asked .. “in a New York minute” I replied
  10. Good wipe over with dettol spray worked my old jap jazz reeked of cigarettes
  11. I’m sure it’s amazing but I only really use amp sims and a bit of compression so this would be totally overkill for me
  12. I didn’t play - I’d never been to that one before and was hoping to meet up with the regular host who’d given me some homework when I saw him at another OM In Loughborough (George) perhaps I’ll be house band next time as I did tell last night’s host (Mitch, OM near coalvile) that usually I’m acceptably good at winging things in general so probably bass too Only about 25 people there
  13. Just two basses one vintage stingray clone one 3Tsb precision no weedy toy basses with extra strings
  14. One very boring acoustic guitarist with a wealth of sexist and self-aggrandising banter …. But followed by surprises … a very Downs guy who did a really good Mozart piece on violin a ukrainian refugee who did her own very lovely song in Ukrainian and also a song in English talked to one of the organisers who noted my bass and said “bass players are rare round here, sought-after”. Smart guy … for a guitarist anyway 😛 I didn’t play as it wasn’t a jam night and the guy I expected to see from another OM wasn’t there. Boring guy from para 1 came over to push his way in and talk basses whilst I talking to the nice Ukrainian lady and her husband.
  15. You’re there, dude. Book that ticket right now
  16. Fixed and I’m actually a cryptographics programmer
  17. Will you please stop taunting me with these photos of nude components and naked parts? There’s only so much I can take ! I haven’t bought a bass in 12 years 😭 #sobbingintomyhorlicks
  18. Wasn’t ray charles blues?
