  1. You can move it on for similar money if you don’t get on with it. I’ve played the 4 string version and they’re very nice even in stock condition
  2. He know about GAS... already ...he’s been here on basschat for about 15 minutes ... you’re at home already ... Second thoughts - this is too good to be true. Is he perhaps on a secret mission from Mutti (Frau merkel) to steal COVID vaccines from us in order to inoculate the German government apparatus and so allow her to rule forever ?
  3. What about the squier vintage modified jazz 5? They regularly come up on eBay for not much
  4. Frankly I’m impressed that you tracked down what a marlin is, from a standing start in a world that you (probably) know little about. These pages are filled with topics that amount to “what is this bass, and is it any good?anyone ever had one?” Do well done I was young when Marlins came out and quality has improved a lot with budget instruments. They really weren’t great and I’m not sure age will have improved them I’d be looking at Harley Benton clones of the fender precision and jazz basses. they cost pennies and are so good that many members on here gig with them (back when that was possible) or as a basis for small improvements https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_electric_basses.html they ship to UK for nothing (I think) and you can send it back if you don’t like it. Get your son to join once he has found his feet. If he grows out of an HB you can shift it on here for a good price
  5. I was one of those around when U2 released that album, I was in the US when the Joshua tree came out from which tour much of the rattle and hum movie footage and tracks came. I still watch the extended version occasionally now I recall that I’d never heard BB King play, and I had no idea about billie holiday either. It was like they opened the curtains onto a works I never knew was there. I did realise that I really liked the way that Adam was playing on those two songs though - angel of Harlem and When love comes to town
  6. I believe some were, but that’s only a person turning a handle making a bobbin move back and forth in a well-controlled way - same as scatter-wound now
  7. True - it wasn’t picked out by magic pixies using their special ears
  8. Used sparingly it’s acceptable IMHO I wish I was better at it
  9. So what is the difference between actual 74 jazz basses and 75 models that they get a separate avri model ?
  10. So almost exactly two years on, I got a second look at this bass. Had zero practice time since that build and it moved from car to garage. The crazing is just amazing - it looks about 100 years old - amazing stuff nitro pics tmrw ...
  11. Why not ask if you can hire it for a week for a minimal sum plus deposit ?
  12. I had an MG car once, it was acceptable to replace old with new provided it looked like the OE part and the OE part was beyond repair; it was generally advised to keep the OE part just in case - maybe we should apply that logic here
  13. Need pictures really ....then someone can probably identify it and you can find it’s value
  14. Possibly plectrums stuffed in there contribute to resonance within the wood ? Long as it’s the right wood and the right kind of plectrum and the right orientation of course 🍿
  15. Why didn’t they include the ball-end cover ? Didn’t you finish paying for it yet?
  16. I do - have to with our disaster zone of a house. First owner did not maintenance for the first 20 years after it was built
  17. Tbh I’d just buy a jap reissue and leave it at that. They’re made well enough that they are probably what you’re expecting a vintage fender to be but without the insane price tag
  18. What he said. What I said. No one who isn’t a bass player will even notice the “real thing” either visually or aurally
