Would now be the appropriate time to mention the Barefaced Super 12?
I tried Markstuk's Super12T a while ago when he graciously asked me over to his to A/B one against a Proline 410 he also had. It was indeed a righteous cabinet and I was really impressed. -
The Berg cabs that I have tried are great and Genz are great. You can do no wrong with either. Both are made well and sound great... they sound different but both are top cabs - you'll have to trial them to see which you prefer naturally. I'm awaiting the arrival of the new Berg cabs to try but the NeoX212T would be my Genz choice of cab. They sound worlds apart from the EBS you have at the moment - mainly down to the tweeter. Have you not considered the 2x12 EBS Neo? I reckon it's the best cab that they have ever done. Defo worth adding to the melting pot. At this level, there is no better, just different.
Hi Russ, Haven't tried the EBS NEO 212 but was on the verge of impulse buying one of them a while ago when a used one came up on the For Sale forum. Dunno why I didn't go for it, just felt I needed to hear it first and didn't want to take a flyer. Guess everyone's been spot on about the choice. There's no bad/good at this price point, just different T -

Thanks all so far. I really appreciate your input. My heart says Berg having been blown away by the HD212 I tried at Bass Direct. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mark has such a unique skill in knowing what you're after even before you know yourself My head says GB. It's the same make as the head (not that is that important) and the reviews (including the bass whisper's demo of one with a Streamliner on youtube) are really glowing. It's a great cab. Whichever route I go, I need something which will be a much used tool and therefore needs to be robust, tonally flexible and above all be the right sound for the job. I've now got a pretty full diary now with the soul function band so justifying the extra "dollar" (as the 'yoof apparently say nowadays) is not a problem. It needs to be right, I don't want to be halfway through a gig thinking "I saved a few quid on CAB A but it's not quite as good as the more expensive CAB B". Or more importantly "I spent all that money on CAB B thinking because it was more expensive than CAB A but actually, CAB A suited me better". I guess I really need to A/B them with Mark at Bass Direct and then work out how I'm going to afford one without sacrificing either a kidney or perhaps a family member or pet. -
All, I've been umming and arrrrring (is that how your spell it?) for a while now on getting a lightweight 2x12 to replace my wonderful but heavy as fook EBS Proline 410. Whilst I love the power, output and just plain old loveliness of the Proline, I loathe the size and weight. Having played through a HD212 at Bass Direct a while ago, I was blown away at how wonder it was. However, it was a fair old chunker for a 2x12 so that kinda rules out that in terms of lightweight. The question is, has anyone any views or insight into the above cabs in terms of tonal and output compared to the Proline I've got. Has anyone referenced the Berg HD against the new CN? How do they compare tonally? What about the GB cab? By the way, I guess I should mention that my head is a GB Streamliner 900. Cheers Mr Undecided of Solihull T

Anyone know why DV seem to have stopped stocking Fender?
tonyf replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
My mate lost his job last week as part of all this. Need to quiz him to see what the craic is. Despite all the dodgy dealings of the management, remember that in the trenches, good committed people have lost their livelihoods. -
I use one of these at home as a practice amp. Have also use it a couple of times live in an "acoustic/unplugged" situation but with DI support. You've gotta use some perspective. It's a 10" speaker with 75watts. It's hardly gonna push massive amounts of air. The original brief for the design was that it was primarily a practice or recording tool where quality at moderate volumes was the primary focus. They ain't designed to play wembley stadium with. In terms of reliability, mine has been rock solid since I brought it 6 or 7 years ago.

We're doing it in our soul/funk function band. Fantastic tune, such a great groove and loads of space to improvise. I've been using my octaver on the B at the seventh fret on the E string. Marvellous fun. It gives it an organic bass tone but the octaver and a bit of envelope filter adds a bit of synth bass grove.

Spotted this a couple of weeks ago. Stunning. http://youtu.be/lRdRSNQdWMM

For me at the moment, two bands but have done three. However, at the moment, I'm starting to feel the two is over committing because of the situation at home. Mrs F is a contractor and is currently working away Monday to Thursday nights which means whenever I need to rehearse during the week, I need to get a baby sitter for little Miss F at £30 a pop. That's not a problem for the one band where I'm absolutely head over heels in love with, not so much with the other band that I've kinda lost the desire for. It's further exasperated by the fact that both bands quite rightly expect equal rights on my availability and commitment, meaning two rehearsals in a week could potentially cost me a lot of cash in baby sitting before I even pay for the rehearsal fees. There's a thread I'm drafting now which details the exact dilemma over "letting people down" etc but I guess that there comes a point at which, despite the love of playing in bands etc, the practical aspects of time away from home, cost and my responsibilities of being a parent need to be the priority #toooldtorocknroll T

That looks fantastic. I'm subscribing! Really got the bug for building after speaking to Dave several times over the past few months via several build threads. He knows his shizzle :-) Did you do the drawings or did he? What package did you/he use? T

Brought Joe's Schecter 5 string. Top fella, a total gent who makes a fabulous cup of Earl Grey. Deal with confidence. Thanks again Joe.

Can someone talk me into, or, out of this, please...?
Can you not jerry-rig the East preamp somehow and get it playable? Should be 'relatively' simple to cut the wires, use screw terminals to get them attached to the preamp. If you used longer wires you could even have all the bits sitting on a desk or what-have-you then just plug into that while you test the sounds. Worst case scenario is you have to reconnect the wires to the controls again but at least you wouldn't have done anything intrusive or damaging. Edit - I have East Preamps fitted to 4 basses, all different. It makes a HUGE difference to each of them in the way the range of tones has been opened up but they still retain a recognisable individuality.
A REALLY sensible suggestion by Paul. Hanging the stuff together before you get it permanently modified will help you listen to any changes that the new preamp will make before you hack it about. -

Do it. I don't see much that would "destroy" the resale value of the t-bird if I'm being honest. It's not as if it's an ultra vintage one and besides, do you care? It's a keeper. You'll have to get the battery compartment routed but it'll be hidden. You'll need to get the control cavity rerouted but again, not by much that it'd be that obvious to all but the real trainspotters. Who'll need to be behind you to see it. So don't have your back to the audience. The hole for the mini-switch probably won't be that obvious. If it is, and it's something you're unlikely to change, why not set it to the desired position and pop it back into the cavity, wrapped up. Re the batteries, will the East preamp run above 9v? I've got a couple of EMG circuits in two of my basses and I've discovered a guy who makes 24v batteries that are TINY. They take up WAY less space that that of a single 9V. Maybe if the preamp is happy to run at higher voltages, you could use one of these inside the enlarged main cavity and not have to add a separate battery routing under the scratchplate. Just an idea. Chic are VERY much alive with Nile Rodgers being very active as the driving force. Follow him on twitter as he's incredibly engaging and the band seem to have a very full gig diary, particularly in Europe. They're playing in Moseley in Birmingham on 7th July. Going. Stoked. Can't. Wait. Oh. No. lol T
I'm gonna have to try my gloves out after listening to that. Think I'll get a similar sound with gardener's gloves?
You could try. Probably worth wearing the knee pads and wellies too, just in case ;-)

Ummmmmmm, flats :-) http://youtu.be/eoVfamlcbYo

Excellent Nige. Nicking that so you'll be seeing that in a sec on my FB feed ;-)

+1 with the Status flats. I did the same a couple of weeks ago. Brought some more as a "lets see what all the shizzle is" and put them onto my Bitsa PJ. Like you, I didn't wanna spend a huge amount of cash on a set of flats only to find I didn't get one with them. If I'm being honest, it's taken me a while to get used to them but I'm definitely starting to warm to 'em. I think for me, they're not going to suit everything I play in the set but they're absolutely nailing some of the traditional R&B / soul / motown stuff we do in the set. On these numbers, where I was finding myself having to roll off the top end, play further towards the bridge and use a fair but of palm muting to give me that "old skool" thump, I'm now finding I'm getting a SO MUCH more authentic tone. It sounds hardly surprising now but I guess I needed to ACTUALLY use flats and see how they suited me before I'd made up my mind. Again, I'm probably still going to use nickels on my other basses but I'm definitely converted for keeping them on my Bitsa PJ.

G&L ASAT Bass - Pickguard/Scratchplate modification
tonyf replied to kidcongo's topic in Bass Guitars
I used to have a couple of ASATs and did a similiar thing with the scratch plate. However, I didn't screw mine onto the body as I really didn't want to damage the bass incase I sold it or fancied going 'au naturale' again. I therefore used some double sided sticky tape which worked a treat. As it stuck like the proverbial "stuff to a blanket", it never came off. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:130117] -
Daryl's House is something else.....
Absolutely. This is fantastic stuff, that band are SERIOUSLY tight.
