1. Hubba hubba. Such a bargain. A LOT of bass for that amount of cash. Bump!
2. Bump for an amazing amp. Got rid of mine a couple of years ago and have regretted it ever since. If this is around in a few weeks, I'll seriously think about biting your hand off for it.
This is the 4 Ohm model so is ideally suited to a couple of 8 Ohm cabs (later ones are 2 ohm output I think)
I never knew they did a 4 Ohm version, always assumed it was a 2 Ohm load as the EBS cabs are (as far as I know) all 4 Ohm. Mine was pretty old, I brought it around 2001 or 2002 but that was 2 Ohm.
3. Amazing bargain for a fantastic multi-fx. Can't do without mine, it's a sensational bit of kit. Bump!
4. Whilst not my bag, my folks used to have a lot of his stuff in their record collection so I've heard quite a bit of Kenny's work over the years. With him and Alvin Lee going over the past day or so, I'd concur with everyone else that it seems like a bad year. RIP Kenny.
5.
I've lost interest in these types of event...seems a bit like those video game shows/car shows. Just seems like too much effort to try something out for five minutes. I'm not really one for watching master classes or bass soloing. Also seems like the guys who go crazy slapping are trying to heighten their ego. I think going to a good store would be more interesting.
This.
6. Never saw Rory but I've seen enough NBZ gigs with Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O'Neill to know what a truly brilliant rhythm section they were. He was a fabulously talented musician. RIP fella.
7.
Would love to try one of those as i'm frequently back and forth between e and d. The necks are indeed sublime. Nice thick fretboard on them. Like the narrow string spacing as well.
Stick a d-tuner on it? I've got one on my cherry red Euro 4LX which I adore. It's such a great guitar, really punchy, articulate and does everything I throw at it. I swapped the tonepump out for an EMG BTS (running at 18v or 24v) which I think sounds way better and is more flexible. I could never get my head around the "boost only" tonepump. Each to their own. 8. I've had both a V6 and a V8 at various points. Both sounded monsterous with Ampeg cabs. An 810e was fabulous but like wheeling a coffin around but the best bang for buck was a 410HLF. Massive bottom end for a 4x10 but with ooodles of punchy mids and a crisp top end. Of course being 4 ohms, you can get two ;-) T
9. Beautiful bass. I'd be on it like a shot but it's got 5 too many strings. ;-)
10. Relisted..... Start saving http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Thumb-Bass-1988-unique-collectable-with-provenance-/230912247956?
11. Had one for years. Got rid of it. Realised my mistake. Got another. Love it. Not the lightest cab (understatement) but the reward for a minor bit of effort in carting it about is a truly phenomenal bass cabinet. I've now got castors on mine which make such a difference. Have a bump LRH! T
12.
There's a 16 page thread on this very subject on Talk Bass. Lots of opinions, some quite intelligent and informative: http://www.talkbass....rolling-796088/ I've re-tubed my own Streamliner with a NOS Jan Phillips 5751 in the V1 position and found that it noticeably tightened up the bass response without significantly reducing volume. A 12AT7/ECC81 has even less gain (60mu) than a 5751 (70mu) and a 12AU7/ECC82 (19mu) is pretty useless in a MI preamp and is best saved for home hi-fi aficionados. I also replaced the V2 & V3 with some old RCA 7025's (those are military spec 12AX7/ECC83's) which are subtly warmer and quieter, but in a loud band situation are indistinguishable from the stock tubes/valves. I also push it all into a Barefaced Compact (soon to be joined by a Midget). Mercy, mercy me, it does sound so very good. Warm, deep, huge and punchy tone no matter how loud you go and stays that way up until the police arrive.
I've read that thread a couple of times and agreed, there's some great stuff in there. I've ordered a NOS Jan Phillips 5751 from Watford Valves so I'll stick that in V1 and see what happens.
13. Hi ya! Was good to meet you on Saturday night at Nicky and Stu's wedding! It was a fantastic night, we were REALLY honoured to have been a small part of it and it was amazing to play to such a great bunch of people. Pity we didn't meet up afterwards and talk some bass, the usual thing of having to break down and travel back to Solihull. I kept my eye open for you but I guess you were probably distracted by a rather large glass of alcohol Hope you liked it, it was only my 2nd full gig but I'm loving it and I've played enough in the past with my mate Brian, the keyboard player. It's great music to play from a bass point of view, really allows you loads of freedom to improvise. The amp wasn't a GK, it's actually a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 into a EBS Proline 400 cab. Sounds fantastic, I'm really loving using it, it's got such a great sound and is so easy to use. How was the hangover on Sunday morning? Tony
14. Oooooooooooooo! Deliciously lovely! I've got a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn (DPLE) in Sherwood Green and it looks fabulous with the vintage scratch plate. Not a colour you see that often, pity really.
15.
Now I'm wondering if I find the extra £100 to go for the 900 version, so I can choose to use it inplace of my valve amp - or replace my large rig entirely with new cabs aswell. Damn Shiny-fing Syndrome
Headroom. If you can go for the 900 over the 600, great. If not, either amp is gonna be a fine investment. Ultimately, with the 900, the controls go down as well as up
16. You gonna be using the Streamliner or the Thunderfunk? The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking eventually to get a BF. The EBS Proline 410 I use at the moment is wonderful with the Streamliner but it's just a monster to move about. If I could get something which sounds as big and as good as the Proline but half the weight and size, I'd be a very happy bunny. T
17.
So? Did it all work out well? GB and Barefaced?
One of thebrig's postings here.... 18. Usually 2 x 1hrs with a 15 to 30 min break. 2nd half usually extends a little though with encores. Gear? The 8x10 looks great but shifting it will kill ya, especially when you get home and are unloading in the dark into the house/garage at 2am in the p*ssing rain. Gear's moved on so much now, a decent 2x12 lightweight will shift as much air and sound as loud.
19. Not now Kato...... http://www.facebook.com/TheVibeBand That's 5 minutes of my life I'll never have back....
20. Stunning bass, Sheen, we've talked a lot about this wonderful instrument over the past few weeks I bet it's even better with the EMG 40TW's fitted. All that flexibility, I bet there's not a bad sound in it. Have a bump. T
21.
I just turn up at the gig read the dots or watch the guitar players hands
There ya go Bilbo..... 22. Fantastic....

24. Here's an abject lesson in NEVER reading internet forums when you're in a blissful state of Gear Happiness Syndrome. Now thinking of tinkering with my STM 900 now! To be honest, my Streamliner is a spectacularly good amp. Been so happy with it. In terms of setup, I tend to leave it fairly flat ish most of the time. Bass at 12 o'clock, mids at about 1 o'clock, top end opened up a bit. Mid band set to 2.5k and the gain section ALWAYS engaged to bring in a tiny bit of breakup but no so much as you'd call dirt. With my EBS Proline 410, it's lovely, full, articulate and punchy. However, the only minor issue I have is that it's always a little less than tight on the bottom end. Not boomy, but not tight. Someone mentioned the word " Would changing the V1 for a NOS JAN Philips 5751 be a reasonable step? Hamfist mentioned "low end a little tighter and more controllable". That's kinda what I'm after, particularly as I've recently started doing more pop/funk projects and less RAWK stuff. T
25. I find the best bassists wear rubber pants, shoes and swing around a metal precision whilst standing in a bath of water in the middle of an open air gig in a thunderstorm. Whilst under a tree.
