1. I haven't found them too bad tbh, only complaint personally is that they seem to wear out pretty quick.
  2.
So what's the point in owning one?
Well I wouldn't know would I mate, I don't have one. But if I did I doubt I'd treat it like the guy in that video.
  3. Any sound or video clips yet mate?
  4.
Have a little bit of respect guys.
I recognised from the sort of sound what he was trying to do, & quite a few things of Japanese culture & history interest me so no quarrell with any of that. It's just did he have to experiment on a Fodera costing thousands of pounds? Could imagine quite a few players who would hardly let a bass like that see the light of day from it's case.
  5. Wtf That was horrible, his expressions were pretty funny though!
  6. Cheers will do. Looked in to Lakland & Sandberg when I was looking for a 5 string. Just a thought, does anyone have any idea how the £ might be set to look against the $ in the next few months?? Obviously could influence the price a fair bit.
  7.
i wish i lived closer to you so you could try mine out!
Yeah shame, how about you post one to me & then I'll post it back? How does it work with payment, I know you pay a deposit & then of course the few months wait but when do you pay the rest?
  8.
1. It depends on what you're expecting. You have some sweet basses. It will be of that standard. You're not going to think "Why have I been wasting my time with MM?", you're not going to experience any mega revelations, it's just a jazz bass after all, but one where clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into pretty much every aspect. You'll think "this is a great bass" every time you pick it up, but it won't be like a hidden door to a new bass world.
Thanks I like to think I've got quite a range covered between a Thumb & a 'Ray. I'm very fond of the classic 'Ray sound so I'm not expecting be all, end all out of a Sadowsky. For me each bass has it's place. I just want a decent well made jazz bass type 4 string.
Joe just to clarify, are you hoping for that classic Jazz growl?
Yeah I was looking for that, however after watching/listening to a few clips of Sadowskys I'd say that that punchy sound is much more appealing, for me personally.
I must admit that I really like my Saddo but haven't been completely blown away by it. To be really honest I prefer my Roscoe at the moment and it was a fair bit cheaper. This actually might reflect the fact that Sadowsky's do hold vale pretty well compared to something as relatively esoteric as a Roscoe - they would have been roughly the same price new. I think Henley is about as far away as London but you'd be welcome to try it out if you were ever this way
Cheers mate! Just typed your location in to AA route planner & it's a 3 hour drive according to it lol!! Hmm a Sadowsky is almost double the cost of an American Fender, not including shipping & tax. From the research I've done & all your contributions it does seem a very nice piece of kit, but yeah I'm asking myself if it's that many leagues ahead of a Fender or similar. Thanks for all the replies btw guys. EDIT: typos!
  9. Hi Largo thanks for the advice. Apologies I forgot to mention in this thread that it is a 4 string that I'm after. Completely content with my 5 string set up, for now!
  10. Niceee. Do you reckon these instruments will hold value? As in my other thread the plan was to get an American Fender, get it around the time of my 21rst in Dec (good excuse eh! ) & then hold on to it. Ohh & one thing, do you know what a Metro looks like under the scratch plate? I'm really in to this finish... http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/m499.html but would remove the plate so it's just blue, but obvs no point (imo) if there is routing underneath?
  11. Cheers guys. I suppose right now some questions I can think of are... 1. Are they all they are cracked up to be? Because they seem to have 1 hell of a reputation. 2. How is the neck? Is it smooth & glossy? 3. I've been looking at a Fender American jazz. If you have played 1 of these how would you say it compares to a Sadowsky? & finally Chris, is there much of a difference between the NYC & the Metro?
  12. Cheers Toasted. Yeh would be looking at a Metro unless some quilted top of an NYC really takes my fancy. Hmm London it is then, unless there are some Basschatters down here with Sadowskys??
  13.
Also, is it against forum rules to sell/buy basses here?
Get out there & play some basses! If you decide to sell just pop it in the For Sale section, I'll email you my paypal details for the fee later Lol seriously though it's free. Just type up a decent advert & including a few pics would help a lot. Bear in mind that it may take a while to shift though with the way things are going. EDIT for typo!
  14. You can normally tell who is likely to piss around with your equipment, just by attitude (of course!) & heavy handling etc etc. However I've never understood how some people will take great care of their own stuff & not give a rats ass about other peoples. Like lending a toy to a friend as a child & getting it back snapped in half. I was taught to take more care of something that didn't belong to me, because IT DIDN'T BELONG TO ME Make's sense thought doesn't it? It should be simple manners! Mini rant over!!

    Sadowsky

Just wondering if anyone knows of a place to try one of these bad boys out down here in the South. I know there is in London but I'm not going to be up there for a while. Anyone know of a place say over Brighton or Southampton way? Don't mind a drive, could probably make a day out of it with the gf as well. Tbh I'm surprised that GAK in Brighton doesn't stock them, that place is awesome! So yeah any help appreciated!
  16. Thank you Molan great advice. Well you guys just had to push didn't you & now I'm very interested in a Sadowsky. Jokes!! Not about Sadowsky though! Have had a quiet afternoon here at work today so done some research & watched some video clips etc. Look very, very nice instruments! Wouldn't be able to afford an NYC so looking at the Metro series, although they are still above my intended budget. Does anyone know of a place that sells Sadowsky in the south? I know of The Gallery in London of course but it's a bit of a journey & would prove expensive day. Wondering if there is anywhere Brighton or Southampton way. Surprised that GAK in Brighton don't sell them tbh, that place is awesome.
  17.
So I have decided that I am going to buy one. Its bugging me to much and I need to get rid of this guilt. Its just a case of deciding to get a Trans Teal like I used to own or go for a newer colour.
Don't worry mate!! Great time to get one as they go for so low atm! I stopped playing for about 2 years & then picked it up again about 5 months ago. I bumped in to quite a few bass players in my time of not playing.

    Colours!

If it's a trans with a nice piece of wood or quilted maple etc then colour doesn't matter too much to me, as long as it's not too bright. But as this option isn't available I'll go with black. Love the look of say a black jazz with matching scratch plate & then a maple neck. Just love the contrast.
  19.
Would these prices be correct if the Black Cherry Burst or Pacific Blue Burt had matching coloured heads or would this bump the price up a little more?
Should bump it up a bit yeah. Why you ask? Got your eye on one?
  20.
that must be the Soprano Cellar.
You're picturing it perfectly
  21.
I approached the guy that was there, a tall skinny guy with long hair, seems around the end of his 40s, and asked him if i can try the pod next and the bass driver. him: "Why?"
I'm starting to picture people going in to the bass cellar & asking a question about something & getting a reply in an Italian American sorta accent of "who wants to know"
  22.
Aww no! Don't, they may change and we'd have less to laugh at
Or another "we have many satisfied customers" comment may appear.
  23. Yeah the angle of your wrist in your avatar could become a real problem. I tend to do this with my thumb bass, guessing because of the smaller body. Despite being only 20 I have extremely bad wrists, I've been lifting weights for about 3 years, however the problem was caused by just one gym session in which I tried some weighted wrist exercise & that was it. Problems since & it spurs up every now & again to different degrees. As mentioned above don't work through it, if it hurts then put the bass down. As for warm ups etc just do some scales & stuff & build up the speed. Try soaking your hands under hot water as well. If your wrists start to hurt soak them under cold water. Hope this helps.
