1.
You might be interested in this... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30446
Very nice! If it was a 4 string I would have considered.
2.
Could it be that the guy was just trying to be friendly and making a joke? If someone comes up to me and told me something i found amusing i would certainly make a joke or light hearted comment about it.
A comment about being more popular stamp collecting is a bit too far though. Everyone knows the stigma & stereotypes etc attached with stamp collecting. Maybe I'm analysing it a bit too much but if someone said that to me I'd take it as an insult all the way down to my image, but then I can see how that would be possibly being over sensitive But yeah just my opinion, I wouldn't have dared say something like that to a customer when I worked in retail. You're right about how people on here should just stop going in to that shop though. The saying any publicity being good publicity & all.
3. Thanks for all the replies guys!! Think I will try to have a play on both the deluxe & the standard. However will also look out for the alternatives mentioned, especially the Sadowsky.
4.
the same can be said for Religious people looking down at people who have no belief and wish to lead an "Empty" existence, but the truth as is as soon as you can accept that there is no glorified shag pad after you die you learn to appreciate life mroe than any Chrisitian who kind of live a lazy lifestyle with the mindset that with a little prayer here and there that they will be in line to comb God's beard.
Not all Christians look down on people who aren't. Might be the minority, wouldn't know because I probably don't know enough. As for laziness though, I've never met a Christian who seems to have the attitude of squandering this life because there is a better, eternal life to come. Right I'm off to London for the weekend!! Prob be a few more pages to this when I get back lol. Regards
5. Yeah saw the TB thread when I had a search on Google. Thought it would be cool to get opinions here etc, & help build up more of a knowledge base on the site. Yeah deluxe is an active, standard of course just your usual jazz bass stuff. Other makes deff aren't out of my mind, but since I got my Mexican jazz years ago I've always liked the idea of an American Fender. Just needed to get a decent 5 string & a Stingray out the way first lol.
6.
There fore it can't be proven eitherway- this I why I said I dont see the logic of defulting to atheism.
Perhaps atheism to a lot of people stems from the fact that you can't prove God does exist, but then you can't prove he doesn't either. However as BBC put it you could then apply that approach with Santa Claus. Which then of course is just farcical. So atheists could make that same conclusion about God & religion? I'm not an atheist. But based on that sorta logic I could see how someone could reach the conclusion that there is no higher being.
7.
You see lists here and there on the internet, but they're not hugely impressive, unless you regard the Bible as literal truth. Matthew 27: .....................................................................
Ah right, so contradiction due to different accounts then. What about like actual teachings & beliefs etc though? & with churches do they pick & mix what bits they prefer or find more effective or something? When my gf took me to her church they were talking about the crucifixion & used as you've put it, John 19, as in they talked only about Jesus saying "it is finished". Nothing of the other accounts you listed.
8. Regarding contradictions in the bible. Is that true? Just wondering.
9. Have you threatened the seller with Ebay action at all?
10. Cheers for the replies guys. Not completely certain on it being a Fender. Was considering a Sadowsky Metro or a Sandberg as alternatives. Would like to know how people have got on with the standard vs deluxe though.
11. Going to be 21 in December & I like the idea of getting an American jazz, 1 to hopefully hold on to, sentimental value yadda yadda yadda... Thought it would be interesting to have a thread on here comparing Fender American standards to the deluxe models. From what I've heard it seems to be evenly sided in some cases, which is worrying seeing as the deluxe boasts more & comes with a substantially higher price tag! I can appreciate that it may be biased on the particular bass played though, as Fender do seem to make the occasional dudd. Must be a few members out there who have played around with both before deciding on 1 or the other, so I'd like your opinions please. Is the deluxe really worth the price tag??
12.
so how do we go about this then? Does anyone know anything about publishing/designing something like this? Just thinking that there’s not much of the year left so we’d have to get a shift on if they were going to be ready for shipping out to people before Christmas/new year…
Might just be too late now tbh, once its sorted & ready to go it will probably have crept in to November. Cool idea though, I'd buy one.
13.
I'm also 'intrigued' to know what LP's sound like
+1 Sean would you perhaps be able to get some sound clips or a video up? You could be sitting on a real beauty here & people may not quite know it.
14.
i feel a little guilty thinking of it really, but it doesnt look like anyone is interested in it on here along with everyone going through financially difficult times at the moment.
Didn't know it cost to advertise on talkbass. How much would it be? Talkbass would really open a big market (obviously lol)
15. See your pedalling the sale on the fact that it was owned by Randy Hope-Taylor, which is cool!! But wouldn't it perhaps take away some of the sentiment for a prospective buyer? EDIT: changing the pups that is!!
16. I'd say... James Jamerson - Motown Stuart Zender - Jamiroquai Ryan Martinie - Mudvayne Feel I have to mention this so I'm gonna take a 4th & go with, guess who... Flea for being what sparked my interest in the bass guitar. Also helps being 1 of my favourite bands lol.
17. Does seem pretty high compared with the rest. Have you got a photo of it now out of interest?
18. I wouldn't worry too much yet. My thumb bass took about 3 weeks to get to me. It spent almost a week sitting in the post office in the states, then when it got to customs again it was there for ages. Then finally it went to the local Parcelforce depot & sat there until I phoned them up wondering what was going on & was told they'd been waiting for me to call to pay the customs charges.
19. Here we go another thread side tracked on to religious beliefs, now watch it turn nasty. My gf used to be involved with a church, I played bass a couple of times in a service. Most of it was shocking, terribly organised band etc. What used to annoy me was the "you are great for trying" attitude, really installing a false sense of accomplishment in everyone. Not just talking music sense. My gf doesn't go anymore, for a few reasons. No point going in to them though.
20. Sold my DeArmond to this chap. Fast payment, no messing around & seemed a genuine, friendly guy!!
21. Congrats on 3 years mate. From memory & as Happy Jack has said this might be a bit tricky. It's situations like these that make me think about the disabled entrance to the reception of the 6th form college I went to: big ramp, auto doors etc. But no lifts or ramps in the actual college itself
22. Wow a gorgeous looking bass. Good job it's a 35" scale because I don't get on with them!
23.
We don't really say things like that in threads - try a PM.
Ok well maybe you're missing a few for sale threads then because prices have been pointed out before. Nothing wrong about giving some advice is there? The guy wants to sell his bass, lets help him. Anyway mate good luck with the sale.
24. Bit pricey for a SUB isn't it? Seeing how little actual Stingrays are going for at present.
