Bastards. How were they caught? Who rumbled them?
+1. I think every one of us gets that sinking feeling every time a thread like this appears. So seeing as the scrotes got caught & the gear returned so quicky it would be awesome to know more.
Ive owned and sent back to the stores more than a few times in the past 2 years. Ive played probably 8-10 American Standards (2008-) and about 2-3 were keepers. The rest had bad quality control that youd expect on a £200 starter bass.
Fair dos, I bought both my MIM & MIA from GAK in Brighton. Maybe it's where the good ones live?
I think you are right about Fender though £1100 is way too much and given the fact you have to go through every bass in the shop in the hope of finding one that isn't serious flawed it's becoming a joke.
I've never played a Fender that is seriously flawed. I've had a MIM jazz, a MIA jazz & currently a Deluxe MIA P bass. I had the chance to play a fair few different ones when I bought my MIM & several years later the MIA. Both times some were noticeably not as good as others, but none were dogs at all. Where are all these awful Fenders people speak of on here??
Thanks for the warning, I have looked, it'll be a £40 hit (the max final value fee they can impose on this type of listing). I've also mentioned on the listing that if a recognised member buys it from me on here or talkbass i'd gladly make a donation of £20 to the site rather than pay evilbay.
You have to go through Paypal now as well don't you? So that would bump the fees up again?
What are the prices like? And does he do black hardware?
Those 3 on Ebay are around £2000 each. On his actual site he doesn't seem to give prices.

Very nice. That p/j on Ebay certainly is a looker. Are you in the market then & considering one of these?
No this one was bought from Absolute music. I'm not sure if they had one in GAK.. As they were so rare they were distributed all round the country.
Ah, yeah they had one in GAK, I played it. Lovely bass & that wood looked even better in the flesh. So if yours in anything like...
Interesting idea. I hadn't considered a fully custom job before. If I was to persue that avenue, which luthiers should I be looking at? And thanks for the replies guys, plenty of stuff already that I've never heard of!
Deff check out Sadowsky. Just a thought but have you considered second hand? A lot more bang for your buck that way, but then harder to find what you're looking for if it's quite specific obviously!

Fender Custom Shop perhaps?

Recently noticed the updates Fender have made to the USA deluxe jazz since last year. When I was looking for a good J in Dec 2008 I overlooked the deluxe model they had out at the time. I'd played a couple & hadn't been too impressed with the preamp, I also thought the undersized body looked a bit off. However the new model: upgraded preamp, active/passive switch, blocks & binding, & the wine red finish in particular. Looks very nice! I had a quick search & see according to the gear porn thread a couple of members are owners. Was just wondering the overall opinion here though... I'm not in the market for one, just merely interested as no way would have overlooked these back when I was in the market for a jazz.

Up for sale is a 2008 Fender American Deluxe Precision. The reason was originally going to be GAS related, but a few problems have come up the last couple of days & it now looks like I may have to shift a fair bit of gear to raise some funds... Anyway so up first is this beauty of a Deluxe Precision that I acquired recently from fellow basschatter reesource through a trade. It's a 2008 model in sunburst owned from new by the aforementioned BC'er. The model is the version with the split coil P pick up & double J humbucker at the bridge. It's strung through, 22 fret with scalloped heal & hipshot tuners. She plays beautifully & you can achieve a great range of tones thanks to the 18v preamp & it packs a lot of thump. The neck also feels very fast, which I'd never really attributed to a P bass before! Good condition except for a couple of dings on the body & some light surface damage on the back. These are only really noticeable on closer inspection though. Hopefully reesource doesn't mind me using his pics. The neck also has a couple of small dents (just about visible in the photo). Supplied along with the Fender moulded case, truss rod adjuster & leather strap & straplocks. SOLD Cheers Joe
