This is something I've just not got enough time for: Steinberger headless hardware, beaten up body with the guts hangin out, but it's great fun to play, and could be a lovely bit of kit once it's been cared for! i paid £90 collected, and I know I won't get that back, so £50ono collected?

Hey! Now that I've sorted all my tech issues out, I'm reselling all my bits, but with photos and descriptions and without the heartache and hassle that my computer was causing me last time! I've owned this bass from new, it's kicked arse on stage and held it's own against full-on 'rays since i got it outta it's box. Its in VGC, with dings so small I couldn't photo 'em! It's got all the hardware and 'leccy bits of a true stingray, but with a cheaper paintjob and lower spec woods. It's got the 2band active eq, and the oval scratchplate off the 4string ray. any questions, please shout me up! offers around £350, pickup prefered! Non-original hard case can be included to about £30 if desired!

EPIC! that's stunning mate! I'm always intrigued by the ERBs! Whats the tuning? I'm gagging for something with slightly fewer strings, but with a lower range than my 5ers...something like F* B E A D, and with a devastatingly long scale.... if only i had the money!

How important is theory and reading to you??
phil_the_bassist replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in General Discussion
Just say NO!
THATS why we like you around tBBC! So, the ol' Theory -vs- No Theory debate eh? I like the theory I'm learning, cos atm it's bringin in a bit more money and gettin me a few more gigs. I can see that not everyone wants to learn, or needs to learn, but I like where it's taking me. as soon as I get bored with it, I'll stop...until then, it's all good! -
ok, so you've found your Basswife...as above mentioned, get another for starters, so you've got the opportunity to play with either (or both if you get them drunk enough, and they're that way inclined!) but have you thought about how good it would be to save up the money to get a custom-shop bass? ...could be the way forward mayhaps?

Even better, has anyone got a link to a clip of some clever so and so who has worked it out and posted it on YouTube?
i could dig out the bass solo of the live Free track if you'd like? pm me if this'd help ya at all!

Thinking of opening a music shop
phil_the_bassist replied to vmaxblues's topic in General Discussion
I'd say that your main goal is to have lots of everything, always...but with this being completely unfeasable and unreasonable, try to have as much of the little bits as you can. My one greatest niggle when going to a music shop is when they don't have (for example) ANY string sets for a 5string, or no straplocks, or even (as in the case of my local shop) NO STRAPS AT ALL! I think what I'm trying to say is to think of the bits you'd just 'pop out' for, as well as the major items. Being able to always go "yeah, we've got some of 'X' " when asked for something will give the customer the impression that you've covered all basses *ahem* i mean, bases, and that you're the one-stop-shop for all their music needs. I've stopped going to my local shops because of their complete lack of any 5string sets, strap-locks, good padded straps, decent leads, toolkits and spare parts. This has meant either I drive 40mile round trip to winchester (which i do as often as fuel costs allow! Brian Hayward Has Everything!!) or go on t'interweb which isn't ideal. have a huge feck-off GOOD LUCK!! from me &t'missus, I'll try and make it to the grand opening! -
A weird technique. Is there a name for it?
phil_the_bassist replied to cheddatom's topic in Theory and Technique
I believe it's a tapped artificial harmonic. Alex
I've heard 'em called false harmonics too...The Ox talks about (avoiding) 'em in his DVD, when he explains his 'keyboard technique' good dvd, shame its a digitized rip of the VCR film. -
The Science Of The P'Up

Legend! *manhugs* -
ok, so, I'm looking around at replacement pups, and I'm not too sure I know enough to make an educated decision...my two main questions are: When looking for a hot output pickup (so I can run it active or passive) do i want a high or lower impedance? Also, what does the term Resonance Peak mean? Cheers for the help!
nooo!! stingray5's are like little wooden versions of God, but better, sexier, with a tighter B, and with less tendancy to have wars fought over 'em! I politely disagree with everyone who has a bad word to say about ray5's, but I s'pose you're allowed to have a wrong opinion -
To be honest mate I wouldn't bother as I've tried this previously and it's a waste of time..... your much better booking yourselves
also I guess you don't then have to pay the agent fees = more foldin' for you!

Altho I know a lot of guys who love the heads, I've never been able to get the sound I want from the ones I've used. On the flip side, the 4x10 cab in the local rehearsal studios sounds EPIC with my Ha5500, so much low end, and a really tasty warm tone...definately the setup I'd use when we record the new bunch of demos!!
Entwhistle???/
take a deep breath Neilb, he didn't mean it

Double Thumbing in one easy lesson
phil_the_bassist replied to Bilbo's topic in Theory and Technique
I'm guessin that I can't get it cos my 5ers have got too tight a string spacing...just ends up sounding like I'm playing with my thumb a la Macca. Never mind...guess I won't miss it! lol! -
will this also be applied to the Liquid/Venom/Time/Envy/ etc?
