Offset dots - what do you think of them?
phil_the_bassist replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Bass Guitars
I've never understood the need for them (my main Warwick doesn't have them) but aesthetically I prefer the ones that cross-over...
That's niiice! My Ray's got central dots, but I've got a few washburns that have 'em offset and I think they nice...it's purely aesthetics tho, like quibbling over the positioning of a headshock logo...really wouldn't make/break a decision to buy one. It might come into play when I have a custombuild but that's only cos I've GOT the choice! -
Based in Miami but the Customs Declaration was marked as Gift so no duty. I think you are allowed a certain value without being charged duty and at £20 including postage, (which is $10.50), the value of the goods is below that threshold. i didn't get stung for Duty.
yeah, no duty at all, damn good value, lets hope they sound as good as they are cheap! -
Up for sale but not sure for how much? I recently bought this back off Funkydoug (I had it made 16 years ago) for £280, since then I've had it fret dressed, added a decal, a MM bridge and Musicman Pickup. The body is Ash finished in old English white, The neck is rosewood board on a stunning birdseye maple neck. The Electronics are Real Musicman 2 band circuit, Real Musicman Pickup, Schaller machines. Schaller strap lock buttons This bass sounds and looks stunning, wouldnt sell as Ive just got it back but I have a sniff of something I REALLY want. Cheers Dave
That neck as aroused me in ways no other bass has managed before

happy birthday!! Yeah, same situation with most shops I've been in recently. This is precisely why I don't like Warwicks and Spectors, as the only shop I've been in that stocks 'em had just bolted 'em together and not even bothered to adjust the action, let alone intonate 'em correctly! Useless staff are the No1 reason for dwindling sales in actually music shops, IMHO. It's the reason I don't spend as much money in real shops any more.
So, Phil the Bassist, you come and see my band at Newbury last Sunday and the Mrs gets to see Madonna, VIP. No contest is it really?!!
Ahh, but from what I've been told of her previous performances on this tour, the sound was better at your gig than Katie'll get at Madonna Plus I don't overly enjoy Madges brand of autotuned pop, so there's absolutely no contest! I jus wanna go VIP somewhere -
Probably some kind of software now?
Aww! Don't say that...that's no fun!
I have no idea, but it used to be Darryl Jones. Mr Jones was killing time on a gig in Chicago and went to a local guitar emporium. He picked up a bass and started playing. The sales guy came up to him and started giving him all the chat, showing him all his best sales licks etc. and eventually asked if he played in any bands. Mr Jones told him what his gig was. Sales guy went very quiet and moved away.
excellent! put 'em in their place, bigtime! I've got a feelin it might be Victor Bailiy, but I can't find anywhere to comfirm this! -
Ok, mrs PTB just txt me whilst in Paris (the trip I was gonna go on, but can't cos of the layoffs) to tell me the mate she's staying with has managed to get VIP tickets to Madge's gig in Paris tomorrow night. These include VIP dinner, cocktails, the works, and I'm gutted to say the least ! I was just wondering who's got the gig on bass? Perhaps she can use her feminine charms to get me some free stuff *spelling edit*
we're often a bass player short of a full band!
is this a muso version of "sandwich short of a picnic"? Sounds like a good plan for, as mentioned, inexperienced/bandless lowenders... good luck with it, I hope it all goes well!

AHH! I was just gonna start a similar topic! Do all these badboys have a decent DI out? I'm looking for something that's suitable for pit work, as all my practice amps at home are either a bit too massive (Peavey TNT115) dont have a working di (TE profet combo) or are too unreliable for anything other than bedroom use (a knackered Laney combo). I've been recommended a Roland Cube / a small GK combo but nowhere near here has anything like that I could try out...so some more ideas would be nice!
Noticed these coming up on eBay once in a while - currently a vintage white/creamy one up, shipped for under £300.00. (eBay link) Anyone actually played one of these? Any good? The bridge is different to the original models, but otherwise, it certainly looks the part. Funds don't stretch to paying three or four times this amount for a Gibson. P
That is a great lookin bass! If you've got the funds, it might be worth a pop even if it needs some heavy TLC re. setup and upgrading parts!

Should I invest in a decent small combi with DI out, so I can use it as a monitor too? -
oh it's not! right bottom is volume, the non dotted one is pickup selection and the above 2 are EQ but it's all passive so nothing too fancy.. i sold this bass btw (i could still cry about that.. it was my first) so i have no idea why it was set like that at that time!
i think, perhaps, he was talking about the g.Eq on the Laney?
