1. 5 in the covers band, and about 16 in the band I'm working with for a charity thing.
 2. They've caught my eye many times, but I haven't had the money to gamble incase they were naff...but I'm glad that they're as good as they look! Mebby the ol' mastercard'll get dusted off and I'll treat myself if I've still got a job at the end of the month!
 3.
I spent a few hours in the Reading branch of Dawsons before Christmas last year, and have to say in defence of the chain, that they were very cool. Here's your amp, here's a lead, play what you want and it you want it, we'll get it from stock. Just be careful not to ding anything, Couldn't have been more the opposite than your experience. That said, haven't been in there for ten months...could be all change now. P
Thats the one where a few years back I brought a Behringer head as a backup...plugged it in there and it worked fine, took it home and plugged it in and nuthin...dead as a dodo. When I read the t&cs on the back of the reciept there was the immortal paragraph which went something like "Dawsons accepts no responsibility for advice given by any member of staff regarding whether a product is suitable for use." A.K.A. don't rely on a member of staff to give you good advice. I sent it into Trading Standards, as I was a bit pissed by this point! I got my money back and I think that caveat got taken off the reciepts. Last time I went in there tho, it'd definately changed it's act and as NancyJohnson said, it's very laid back re. trying out gear!
 4.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not so sure on how to get the best out of different room acoustics (low ceiling, high ceiling, pillars, soft surfaces, hard surfaces etc) by speaker placement and EQ adjustment Hamster
ooh +1!
 5.
Are there any other lefties coming along?? (thats actual lefties, not you sellouts who actually play righthanded! )
I recon you're just a righty in denial
 6. Is there any way to 'pimp' an existing brand-name speaker cabinet (to get more freq. responce/volume/trouser-flap etc etc, if that makes sense)?
 7.
Yes, I don't trust myself with a drill. I tried it as an experiment and it sounds hotter than the original (always felt my Ray was bit underpowered) and it a bit more mellow, with less "clack" if you know what I mean. Still has the sound though. It might be at the bash. Depends if there's any room with all those boutique rigs that are coming.
THERE WILL BE ROOM, THE VOLVO TAKES ALL!!! *bwahahahaha! * That is, if you do end up gettin a lift with me!
 8. Hey! Welcome back to the joyous world of bass! Keep an eye out in the For Sale thread, there's always good deals to be had in there! Take it easy P
 9.
The last bash was fantastic fun! If anyone is unsure whether they should go, don't be. It's a great chance to meet people, try out gear, and have a good laugh. Speaking of attending, is anyone from Nottingham thinking of going, and coming back the same day? If so would they mind giving me a lift please? Mark
put it in the [topic="26856"]lift-share[/topic] thread, I think there are a few northerners coming...
 10.
My sentiments exactly... ... provided we don't get the same arguments from the same people in another thread on theory Mark
*isn't holding his breath*
 11.
Me too! (Love it love it love it.)
Thanks for the link! I was trying to remember the Dingwall brand, but it was hopeless! Will you be bringing it to the Bassbash..?
 12.

Legend! Pie for that man!
 13. Hey all, just a quickie but I'm trying to describe to Mrs PTB about them jobbers what with the multi scale length and fanned fretboard etc etc etc. Anyone know any links to decent photos? I think I've seen a thread of 'em here somewhere but I'm tryin to cook dinner and was hoping you guys could help out! Ta muchly, you can have a slice of the steak and ale pie I'm doin if you can find some good examples
 14. That's a Brucie Bargain if ever I heard one! Good luck with it, and keep us posted on the progress!
 15.
Lordy lordy. *a) I do have experience with theory, not in great depth, but enough to know its of no practical use to me. We are not all the same. I derive more pleasure playing a single note with feeling than noodling over changes, therefore it really is overkill. I could spend my time better doing things relevant to me and what I want to do, instead of learning theory which has no bearing on the music I love to make. *b)not everyone wants to be a better musician! I'm quite happy with my level of ability. I do not need any more information to groove along. As a bassist, I can quite happily say there is nothing which I cannot play which I would particularly want to play in the first place. Again it boils down to different strokes for different folks. I don't deny learning theory will make you a more rounded musician. My point is, not everyone cares about improvement after a point. I play as a hobby, the point it becomes a chore I pick up something else. I have plenty of other things I enjoy doing and these occupy the time I could spend learning theory, if I wished. I'd just rather not.
Nicely said! I enjoy my current forays into music theory/learnin to read the dots on lines, and for me the theory is part of my hobby and I enjoy it as such. I can groove all over funk, I can sit rocksteady when needs and I can thrash it out and work the beat like toffee when it's called for but I would like to know the science behind it and until I reach critical mass where (as mentioned above) it starts becoming a chore, not a hobby, I'll carry on reading up and absorbing as much as I can. We all agree bass playin is good, how we each do it and to what extent we do it is completely up to personal opinion and I don't believe there are right or wrong ways...merely different ways.
 16. Does Steve Lawson or our own Mr Clayton do solo shows?
 17.
Is anyone out there taking a bass (and no doubt effects, loopers etc) to venues, and starring in their own one-person show? I'm intrigued really. I love that kind of thing.
I'm currently part of a (pretty much not-gonna-happen) project with my old singer where we were gonna kinda remix into big, grandious backing tracks our old band material and I was gonna play bass/rhythm/lead on my bass (not at the same time, of course) and he was gonna sing...but that not quite what you were lookin for, and it prolly ain't gunna happen. but hey, I'd also like to know what others are doin on the same vein!
 18.
Show us your super lightweight, compact and powerful rigs! I’m not discriminating against brands here, anything small and powerful is welcome to join the party Lax criteria; if you think your rig fits into the “lightweight, compact and powerful” category then post a pic, although anything over 100lbs isn’t lightweight I’ll start things rolling with this, my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and Epifani UL310 rig: Weighing in at a total of 50.75lbs (23Kg), it is unbelievably light. The Shuttle 6.0 kicks out 600W @ 4ohms, but the Epifani is a 5.3ohm cab so realistically the max output will be around 500W – 520W (complete guesstimate). The tone is unbelievable for the size and weight of the thing; a smooth and full bottom end with crisp and clear tops, possibly a tendency to exaggerate the mids and sound slightly nasal but this is easily remedied by tweaking the EQ slightly on the amp. My SSI sounds amazing through it. Nice :brow: Show us your lightweight porn...
That's pretty! I want one! Yeah, my cab's not light, not small, but it's got some balls! still...1 outta 3 doesn't count!
 19. Hey Spyke/Andrew! Welcome aboard! Now you can nick tips and trick from the old pro's (so, not me by any stretch of the imagination!) legitimately! Don't forget to post your basses in the Gear Porn section, it's always nice to 'ooh' and 'ahh' at other peoples shiny toys!
 20. It's 5mins away from my gaff so I'll save £15 on postage...definately if I were you I would leave well alone! It'd look much better on my wall next to my rickenfaker!
 21.
This thread is starting to sound like something from Winnie The Pooh. S.P.
More like Lewis Carrol methinks!
 22.
There are two kinds of musician, it would seem. Those who are happy knowing what they know, and those who want to know more than what they currently know and don't understand why those who are happy knowing what they know don't want to know more than they know. You know?
no, wait now i know not what i know but now knowing what you know you know is now what knowing is all about..no? But yeah, that post makes perfect sense!
 23.
Did you check whether it was a cable for a bass amp above the level of your bass or below it? You could hit problems if you use one that's supposed to be running downhill if you use it the same way round uphill, as the uphill electrons will be trying to go the wrong way.
Ahh, yeah, I fixed that by turning the logo on my cab upside down...this changed the reversi-omni-polarification to the uphill electrons helped the downhill electrons overcome the gravitational differences On a serious note, I've just put the cab together and IT ALL WORKS!!! A big thanks to Bremen for the wire, and to Stingrayfan for the heads-up about Soundtech God it sounds goooood
 24.
£27, not exactly a bargain
Cheaper than my local shop does rotosounds!
 25. GAS!!! god DAMN I want one of those right now Have a bump
