1. if i'm just doing exercises then it's unplugged, but I can run my laptop and headphones thru my bass amp so I can transcribe and jam along to tunes without disturbing anyone. I find it helps to have myself pretty loud thru my headphones, so I can pick up on any issues i may have with my finger technique at higher volumes.
 2. dumbass question here....how come it's a Squire P, but has Jazz pups?
 3. BIlly Idol, White Wedding. I hate it, I Hate It, *I HATE IT* I've never got around to actually listening to the song, but I've never got the lead break bit as I zone out and just chug along, busking all the way. Did i mention that I hated that bloody song?
 4.
Is Morgan Rousell a member here!? I've been to his flat in Paris and that is the place to go if you want to see some serious bass guitars! Most of MK's basses live there...
OOOOOHh! I'll happily buy him a bottle of plonk if he wants to show of his collection!
 5.
I happened to check my emails in ebay last night and found that they are offering 10% off of anything bought via paypal for the next few days. This goes up to £1000 ! Has anyone else got this? I admit to not reading the spam they email to my hotmail account so they might have told me, but it might be worth checking your emails in ebay to see if you've got the same 'present'. CB
yeah, we're had a few special offers like that, £5 off paypal, 10%off stuff etc etc, it's nice to know you're appreciated!
 6.
Patrice Vigier has his factory just south of Paris, maybe you could visit and take some pictures and earn a Basschat Badge!
Where? WHERE? GODDAMMIT MAN, TELL ME WHERE!!! I think Vigier's are funking STUNNING! Does the BC badge have the same associated advantages as the Blue Peter badge? *edited for spelling*
 7. I'd love to goto the US and pick-up-a-ric for next to nuthin, but the friend SWMBO's meeting have a flat in Paris...hence this excursion! BUT judging on the hotel she wants me to book, it'll be cheaper for me to leave her to it, hire concorde outta retirement and goto N.Y. on my tod! I wish I'd never told her my bloody credit limit! lol!
 8. oooh!! sounds promising, music shops and seedy establishments...RESULT! Thanks lads! If anyone has any more suggestions that's be great, but at least I can book the eurostar safe in the knowledge that I'll be able to endulge myself and my GAS!
 9. Hey Karl! Welcome aboard mate, I wish my local college did guitar building courses! Phil
 10. ok, Mrs PTB wants to go to Paris for a week with her friend for a wander round the clothes and fabric boutiques and to generally do the "Paris" thang. They want me to go, but I'd rather break my fingers and stick hot pins in my eyes than spend 5 days getting dragged around by my better half. A few hours are fine, but it's NOT what I'd like to be doing with my holiday! Anyone know any good bass/music shops in or near Paris where I can have a bit of a respite from the good ol' "yes you look lovely in that, Dear"? I won't have a car, but I can negotiate Parisian pub.transport and perhaps go slightly further afield! ideally, I'm hoping Vigier have a mahoosive warehouse where dumbass brits can go and noodle for hours on end with beautiful instruments of lowdown lovelyness within spitting distance of Le Champs-Elysées, but I've probably got more luck winning the lottery without actuallt buying a ticket...
 11.
Use a blending pedal! There are loads more than I first realised, but they seem to be quite difficult to find. If you search this forum section for blend, then you might find some info. I have a Barge Concepts blender thing, a DHA Bob the Blender, and a Boss LS-2. They're all good at their different applications, but I think you'd probably want the barge concepts one.
nice one tom! I'll check 'em out!
 12. Ok, I've got some great ideas for pedal chains...BUT my current problem is that the signal is 'wetter' than I'd like. I know some bass heads have an fx loop that can blend the wet signal with the dry, but mine can't. Soo, how can I get around this? Cheers!
If you have time, Newtone strings can handwind a set of strings for you in the standard string gauges you normally use but with a higher tension core so that you can detune without having to take a file to your nut. Delivery is normally a few weeks but price is comparable to standard decent quality strings
They can DO that? that's brilliant! (yeah, i know...I'm easily impressed!)

 15. I've just got in from a great gig with my regular covers band... It was 5mins from my front door, during our set they had the end of Donnie Brasco, the Italian Job, and The Crow (three of my favorite films) on the screens, the crowd loved it, we had a load of local musos join in for a 4guitarist, 2drummer, 2 singer (and me) jam, the ladies were all gorgeous, the drinks were free and I got £50 for the trouble! I know it's not much compared to some of your fully-pro cats, but defo a great way to spend a saturday night! now, I'm off to bed...
 16.
So it's the Shandys you're gonna blame when you see your UK mobile to US mobile phone bill?
abso-freakin-lutely! also calling my friend in Oz won't've helped finances much!
 17. Ok, as most of you've probably noticed, on the Hartke adverts and web pages there's a US phone number which is supposedly a direct dial to Larry Hartke's cellphone. I was kinda skeptical, until last night. We'd gone out for a few shandys and we came home pretty late...and as I was bored and the missus had gone to bed I decided to give Larry a call and HE PICKED UP! We had a good ol' chat about gear, the weather, his Humvee and the whole giving-his-number-out-to-everyone thing and I was surprised how he actually seemed to enjoy talkin to all the people who call him. He did manage to plug everything from his myspace to their new range of cabs, which was amusing...but give it a shot, it's definitely worth it!
 18. Alive&amplified by the Mooney Suzuki...IT'S AWESOME!!
 19.
bump
That's a damn fine bass, shame you've gotta get rid of it! Have a bump, and good luck!
 20.
Search: Amazing Slow Downer by Roni Music. It's not free but it's really good.
ahh, the trial version does the first 20% of a track for free, and I just need it for the intro to Alive&Amplified, so thats sorted! cheers! P.S. your usb stick'll be in the post tomorrow, I haven't forgotten!
 21. Morning! Just wondering if anyone knows of a free program that slows down mp3s without altering pitch? I use a mac, if that makes any difference! cheers in advance!
 22.
Correct phil! These would sound a lot better (and make more sense) if played over the root chord of each mode, but for now you could try moving them to E by starting each mode on the 7th fret of your A string and playing each one over a ringing open E root note.
That makes a lot more sense! Thanks for the confirmation, I think I've cracked it! Cheers everyone! :-D
 23.
I = Ionian (major scale) ii = Dorian (Ionian b3 b7) iii = Phrygian (Ionian b2 b3 b6 b7) IV = Lydian (Ionian #4) V = Mixolydian (Ionian b7) vi = Aeolian (Ionian b3 b6 b7) (Natural minor) vii = Locrian (Ionian b2 b3 b5 b6 b7)
Ok, I've just run thru these, but several of 'em just sound kinda nasty...I'm going with the general idea that you start with the Major (or Ionian) scale, and for each mode listed, merely flatten or sharpen the required notes eg, in C Phrygian you'd be playing C, Db, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, C and follow formula for each key? Am I thinking this thru correctly? Bitchslap me if I'm on the wrong track here!
 24. ok, you've now made me pick up my bass to sacrifice my Friday bloody evening just so I can plunk my way thru this thread in the hope that it'll all fall nicely into place and I'll know WHAT THE HELL you're saying!! it can't be THAT hard, can it?
