easy to avoid, just raise the pickup slightly on the d/g side or lower the pickup on the e/a side, its fine for me
+1...it's sorted my Ray out nicely! I have noticed the screw (over the course of many months) sometimes loosens too much and I've twice found the magnet stuck to the string if i've not paid attention! lol!

What are you listening to right now?
phil_the_bassist replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion

stingray copy? High price?
phil_the_bassist replied to budget bassist's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It does seem like a high number of bids, but the price is pretty good atm, and it does seem quite tidy! Also, defo agree that you dont see many Stingray replicas with the MM decals! If I was looking for a MM on the cheap, this (and poss uprating the pup) could give you a nice sound for a nth of the price of a real Ray! -
I would say 250w min. I gig with a 300w 2x10 and that's plenty loud for me. Usually it's going through the P.A. anyway so as long as you can hear yourself fine (your amp would be your own monitoring system) then it's OK.
+1 Yeah, I use a Hartke HA5500 that kicks out about 350w@ 8ohms, running a 2x15 and I've *never* pushed it past 30% on an indoor gig! good luck with your search, try and find somewhere you can try out a lot of heads, and also take your own bass along. I've always thought that trying gear out in a shop with a bass that isn't yours is like getting someone else to test-drive a car for you...you want something YOUR bass sounds good thru, not what the SHOPS bass sound good thru!

I'm thinking gettin both so me and Mrs P_T_B can have a charming 'His&Also-His-But-She-Plays-It' matching set!

Finally have our debut gig! Any tips!
phil_the_bassist replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Definately tuck your lead thru your strap If you can, use straplocks Make sure your guitard knows how to set up his pedals (Almost died of embarrasment whilst stood onstage for our soundcheck in a Leicester Sq venue with the soundguy evilling us cos the guitard has just spent the last 5 mins causing monstrous feedback and bangs because he has no idea how to work his gear...) Always imagine every crowd to be a sold-out wembley, screamin your name, and that you know every song backwards! Above all else, befriend the soundguy, he dictates if you live or die onstage...he can make the best band sound appauling, and the most mediocre band sound, well, less mediocre! Rock out sarah, you'll love it! -
The seller mentions Rickenbacker in the listing though so surely it won't hang around long before it's removed.
very true...
Wedge a spare plectrum loosely in between the scratchplate and body (if your bass has a pickguard that is) for those dropping moments
I'm sorry, whats a plectrum? Also, I don't think I've dropped my fingers before...
Please show your proofs, young man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape Duct tape is Gaffa tape used in the military, US and supposedly, on "Ducts" Gaffa tape http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffer_tape Called "Gaffer" tape on wikipedia, is the stage version. Uses: http://people.bath.ac.uk/su2bc/humour/gaff...fer_display.php I guess it depends on how industrial your music is whether you use Gaffa tape or Duct tape... Honorable mention: In motor-sport it's called Tank Tape http://merlinmotorsport.co.uk/product_info...medium=Shopping The good stuff is the same thing but there are loads of inferior copies or "tribute tapes" around that claim to be Gaffa tape but are really carpet tape or just crap tape.
I'm pretty sure the brand of Gaffa tape I buy is by a company called Duck, or it's sold under Duck branding...so technically this Duck Tape could be causing some confusion
I would say that if your guitarist is prone to that mistake, learn to transpose your lines! You make the whole band look sh*t by stopping a song once it's started. It doesn't matter who's fault it is, you all look as stupid as each other.
I don't think you noticed the wiff of sarcasm in that post...either that, or +1 Cheddatom! I'm the daddy at transposing Long Way To The Top by AC/DC, as our guitarist starts it in anywhere from G thru to C, depending on the amount of blood in his alcohol system!
Yeah great idea... or I could just put it in a case ?!
yeah, but I know my g/f'll go on about how comfy the bass'll look with that on! I suppose it'll also stop you getting frostbite if you tend to put your bass in the freezer before playing it in the nude...
Hubba hubba! That's great that you got it so quick, too. I'll have to keep Bill's Music in mind for future reference. The bass looks very cool. And to echo phil_the_bassists sentiments, the new pup will really do the trick. As it 'appens, I was also wondering about your guard. It looks nice on the bass but if you did want to sell, I'd be interested. I love my white pearl on the white body (see pic) but I have previously thought of a black pearl guard as a nice alternative (6 months each! hehe). Only other thing I might think about would be chrome knobs. But that's me....!
echoing his comments, if you want a black pickguard (check my profile for pics) I'd happy do a swap/loan type thing! I suppose same with you Stingray5!
I think life insurance is a much better bet. This is not a great reason to buy a bass IMHO.
not so easy to play on stage tho...
Blimey, that's a long post - still, not got anything better to do
yes, yes it is! I'll kick off, as I've got funk-all better to do too! When I buy a bass, it's either cos it's shiny, pretty, cheap, a bargain, or any/all of the above. I don't consider the resale value, as to be honest, I've never sold any of my bass'! I'm half-hoping that my SUB5'll be worth something in 20yrs as it's not in production any more, but that's pretty pie-in-the-sky! lol!

Welcome to the family! That's a gorjus 5er you've got there, once you get your new pup set up then you'll be laughin! I have to say, I'm curious as to how your pickguard would look on mine...i freakin love that patterning!

The gig was on saturday, so technically I'm a bit late to post! lol! The drummer dropped a few beats, and sped up during some songs, and the singer kept restructuring the songs on the fly with no warning to the rest of us...but we got free burgers and chips so it's all gooooood!
Can they do that, it's just a hole in the wood?
I wouldn't've thought so...and as was mentioned above, people'll see it and goto Ibanez for their one. Technically you should charge Ibanez for the advertizing!
-
Bargain mate! I payed more for my Rickenfaker! I've not really seen any good shots of the natural wood Rics, but that'd defo be my choice now! Will you be replacing/repairing the bent tuner?
Also pleased to see the Rickenbacker-playing community on this Forum expand as there don't seem to be too many of us
...says the man playing a fender in his avatar

it does seem like endorsements come if you're marketable in some way...one of my students plays in a young band the Jammin Dodgers and they're endorsed by Bugera (a subsidiary of behringer, so it's not a massive endorsement!) but they're treated well, it's got them enough exposure to get some airplay on a middle-eastern radio station. It's especially nice, considering that 2 out of their three Bugera amps have sh*t themselves over the past few weeks, but have been replaced with new units within 48hrs at no charge!

doesn't he get dizzy as all hell? I sure did!
Phil the bassist's true identity revealed: Its Wee Jimmy Crankie!
SHHHHHH!!! For christs sake!! Don't bloody tell everyone!!!
Love my lomo fisheye though ^_^
Hell yes! Great for gratuitous crowd shots! ...except for the first time we used one, there wasn't enough crowd so it just made the people who were there look all fat and bloated. Suffice to say it didn't appear on the website!
