Any mods to a Stingray is likely to bring it down in value but the SUB's value might actually increase with a second pup installed.
Yep, I can believe that!
The pick-up and pre-amp of the single H SR5 are very closely connected because of the coil switching. As far as I am aware the pick-up selection options of the HH are quite different. This would therefore imply that the pre-amp design is quite different. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to hook up a second pick-up to an H SR5 pre-amp.
Also sounds highly plausable!
Keep your SR5 as it is, and if you have to tinker, then do it on the Sub.
Judging from this consensus The SUB5's getting turbocharged! *said in the manner of Jeremy Clarkson (and yes, I'm currently watching Top Gear!) Thanks for your input...I'll hopefully bring the finished product to the BassChat event at the end of the year!
im sure ud get used to it, but i find the second humbucker gets in the way of my slap technique, so personally for me id always go for a single H just replace your sub's imo, although i think the sub pickup is quite decent anyways??
It seems to work fine, but I foolishly didn't wipe it down after the last gig I used it at, before I got my SR5 and the magnets are pitted slightly...

Ok, I've bought a Kent Armstrong SR5 pup (cheers Owen!) and I'm now having a few thoughts as to what to do with it. As far as I can see, I've got several options. 1. replace my Sub5's pup, as it's looking a bit sh*tty 2. put it into a hi-end project bass 3. get it professionally installed in my 2006 SR5 to turn it into a HH 4. get it professionally installed in my SUB5 to turn it into a HH So, whats the opinions? Are you able to just wire in another pup for the HH option, or will I need a new pre-amp? Not too sure if I wanna butcher my 'Ray, but if any HH owners want to offer an opinion on the advantages of the extra pup I'd be more than grateful!
playing covers to a big eager crowd? At one date a couple of years back, we spewed out sh*te to an unwashed mass of 3000 people... their reaction & enthusiasm was better than sex. OK so I'm not actually a pro, but you're talking about the sort of stuff I (and an awful lot of enthusiastic players like me) play. If I give you my address, perhaps you'd like to pop round and try to bludgeon me to death? ARGH, mate I'm sorry for going so off-piste but I couldn't let that pass.
+1! I got sick of the politics of originals, so I'm having a break and churning out covers for hideous sums of cash (compared to my day job, my originals band etc etc...it's all relative!) and I freakin LOVE it! I'm playing for playings sake, getting out there, getting experience and gettin the chance to make people enjoy and appreciate music! IF you can make it in an originals, IF you get to be the next big thing, then funking fair play to y'all. BUT I got fed up with missing half a day of PAID work, to travel 200miles thru sh*t traffic to get to a 5pm soundcheck to be told "you're on at 11, and it's 30mins set MAX!" for no money, then fail to get a deal, not because the songs/image/band etc aren't good, it's that you're not a clone of the Arctic freakin Monkeys, or McBusted. Bitter, Moi?

Hey guys. As some of you may know, i've been gettnig hold of a load of pedals recently, and due to the fact that I prefer the slimplicity of analogue I no longer need this pedal. Willing to swap for a multi-pedal power supply that'll run at least 4x9v & 1x18v pedals without buzz, or another pedal (already got a EH BassBalls and Big Muff Pi, Morley wah, DOD FX75-B, and Rocktek Chorus.) or a decent cash offer. With the whole "finger memory" business, isn't it a kinda version of reflex action? For example, I find 'I Wish' and 'Stuck In The Middle W.Y.' are pretty repetitive and formulaic, and I can order a pint and have a conversation whilst playing them, even if we go off on a bit of a jam... yet if I intently concentrate and think about every note I play I quite often stumble. It seems (imho) that once I trigger the 'I Wish' "reflex" then it seems to play itself. Does this make sense to anyone
Forget looking flash flying up and down the 'board, just find the easiest route with the least left hand movement.
That's what I'd call looking flash!
Or muffle the mic with something thick and absorbent when no one's looking
...but the dummer will have to be behind his kit during the gig, not just baffling a mic we've also had a similar situation where we were in a pub (and not a big one!) with tiled floors, and a limiter set to 70db placed on a ledge about 10ft high and 6ft infront of the band. Our first song tripped it 3 times, and the rest of the gig was spent with all members of the band staring intently at the green-amber-red warning light that was attached to it! it was a freakin nightmare for us and the audience!

Ok, as my recently acquired pedals start flooding thru the letterbox (metaphorically!) I've noticed that linking 'em with my collection of 20ft instrument leads is not only a pain in the guitARiSt, but messy, inefficient and completely impractical to recreate on the pedalboard I'm building. SO I'm reading up on building my own leads, as Ive got about a mile of various dead/dying leads from which I should be able to scavenge a few decent lengths of cable to link my fx together. How hard IS it, do I need any special crimps/tools, and is it actually worth it?

South East Bass Bash, Saturday 27th September: NEW INFO!
phil_the_bassist replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Is anyone bringing along pedalboards? I've just dived headfirst into the world of effects, and I'd like to see what you guys think of/can do with my newly aquired effects! I'll bring it along with my rig if you want! -
Who's had a pre-fame support act?
phil_the_bassist replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
...kinda everyone, as my originals band has since died a catastophic death -
The problem seems to be with the lows...usually I can hear myself pretty well, and failing that I can usually 'feel' what I'm playing comin up thru my feet. It's the occasions where, no matter what volume I'm playin at, I can't hear or feel any of my frequencies, yet the FOH sound is fine. I'm rarely put thru the PA, so that's not adding to the problems at least! tonight I'm in one of the sh*tty-sounding venues, so i'm gonna get myself into a corner, roll off the super-lows (my eq's got a 30-64hz band, so that may help fix the problem) and see how that helps. I'll also get my 4x10 up&running again, and use that predominantly for these smaller venues. Cheers for the advice guys, I'm sure this won't be a problem if I'm ever playin the O2 arena! lol!
Not sure whats so hard to understand in the wiki article - even tells you what frequencies are affected depending on how far away from the wall you are, but its pretty clear that corner is best, close to the wall is not so good but better than not close to the wall. How is this not clear?
I can see how the maths works, it's just that it doesn't seem to work in the situations I've had trouble with...as you've read the article, I won't worry about pasting the quotes! My cab's pretty much always in the corner (a good thing), and if so, it's defo less than 2ft from the wall (as there's no way i can sit it 8ft+ from a wall in the sh*tty stages I'm having a problem with! lol!) but I still get problems with the onstage sound, depending on the venue. Is this to do with the proximity of the opposing walls/side walls/ceiling? If I have to have it in the middle of a wall (again, less than 2ft from it) should I angle the cab so it doesn't get the soundwaves bounce straight back from the far wall? Does this explain my first post any further? The wiki's clear enough, but I can't find any correlation between the advice in the article and the problems I've noticed myself.
-
Ok, slap me if I'm a idiot but I'm struggling to get my head round the whole 'correct cab placement' thang. I'm currently mostly using my 2x15, and in our usual circuit there's the gigs where it sounds great, and gigs where it sounds shocking (to me, but bass-playin mates in the audience don't seem to notice either way) and the gigs where I can't hear (or feel) myself at all. I've tried reading the wiki guide, but it's a bit much for my work-fried brain! Do I need my amp in a corner? if I can't, do I need it close to the wall, or far away? Do I need to angle it so it's not pointin perpendicular to the wall? Any help or hints would be appreciated!

I wanna see the original thread...anyone have a link to it..?
Really? Assuming they were valueless so were giving them away for free, would you actually want to add that extra weight to your bass?
well...yes, custom built knobs would be my choice over a stock item.

SUB bass - new finds in latest post
phil_the_bassist replied to budget bassist's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
My SUB5 is what lead me to my SR5 3eq...I've got my SUB as my practice bass with dirty ol' heavy Rotosounds on, so if I can nail a lick on my SUB, I can fly thru it on my MM! Great basses, hard-as-nails body finish, and now they're discontinued I think it's time to keep this one as near mint as possible and hope it'll start appreciating in a few years!! lol!
