That must sound amazing.
I think so I've had it for about 4yrs now, and altho I've used other amps I'm in no mind to change yet!
1. Always unplug your bass when not using it. 2. Check your battery voltage occasionally with a voltmeter. 2. Carry a spare battery with you. After all it only takes 30-seconds to change.

Scratch the date on the battery so you know when you last changed them. You should get at least 3 months out of a Duracell, cheap ones die within days sometimes.
I do all the above except use a voltmeter (haven't got one yet), and I've even got some highend planet waves leads with the circuitbreaker button so I can unplug without blowing eveything! It's the only thing about playin active basses that bugs me, but it's a small price to pay I suppose!
That's a cool rig. Is the 2x15 a 4 ohm cab and is the 4x10 an 8 ohm? If your mixing a 4 and an 8 ohm together and running them with your HA 5500 which puts out 4 ohms, then you might be shortening the life of your amp, 'cause it will be working too hard. I hope I'm wrong and your 2x15 is 8 ohms, if so , sorry for interfering.
no need to apologise, it's 8's all the way baby! I was thinking about gettin everything runnin 4ohms but reading up (and helpful comments on this very forum) have made me leave well alone!
Dont know what you have been reading but I have never seen a bad review of an Overwater and the ones I have played were very nice indeed. There are quite a few bass chatters with overwaters but they dont seem to be very active. You could always look in the Basschat Overwater forum.
Well, as it was the model I was looking at getting, i checked out the Harmonycentral reviews: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...e+5-String/10/1 (can't remember how to embed it as a link) But judging from what you guys are sayin, they're as good as I hoped they;d be! Thanks!

Hey! Just bought a morley wah with slightly knackered fuzz (hope thats fair description! :-P), Great comms, Item exactly as described, SUPER fast delivery, A***, highly recommended, top bloke!

I used to think I'd do pretty much anything for an Overwater, but the reviews I've found have never been too hot. Has anyone here got one/owned one?
Probably about two years now. Lovely bass.
Where did you find it? I've not seen many on ebay, so I'm guessin Rare&Vintage is probably the best place to find em? FWIW here's my rig...sorry about the camera quality! Its a HA5500 with VX215&410 cabs (I know most people slate the VX series, but I've not had any problems!) and my pride and joy SR5 apologies for the orientation of the shots, I dunno why that happened!
Firstly I don't know why you are having a problem is with batteries. Mine last for months and months. Secondly it is very difficult to achieve what you want to do on a later SR5 because as previously mentioned the pre-amp uses a balanced input in single coil and series mode with the join of the two coils grounded. You could possibly do it in parallel mode as this only uses a single input to the pre-amp. You would of course be without any controls as the volume control is a part of the pre-amp.
Aah, fair enough! I think most of my problem is the my completely, utterly and totally mortifying fear of dying in stage (battery-wise, rather than performance wise!) as it's happened once and I felt like a total pr**k! I'm guessing a small switch between the battery and circuitry would do, just to stop any unnecessary power drainage? I'm a complete beginner when it comes to electrics, hence the stupid questions!
-
I've got a 2006 SR5, and want to do the same thing, purely for the sake of my wallet *WHY THE HELL ARE 9v BATTERIES SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!!* ahem! Does anyone have any ideas/wiring diagrams about how this could be achieved? I don't wanna go crazy and bypass the pre-amp totally, but a switch to give me passive tone and to stop me draining the battery'd be worth its weight!
I can do the graphic design bit, but I'm a bit stumped with the injection-moulding hardware! I'm trying to do waterslide transfers applied to the backs of perspex trcs, to emulate the screened 60s & early 70s trcs, but not having any luck with the decal printing so far. This is my latest effort with a paper insert, for my Matsubugger restoration: The idea's to apply the image, reversed-out, to the back of the cover, & then spray white over the back to seal the transfer & give a white background. So far my crap laser printer just keeps melting the paper, regardless of settings. Bit of a pain at a quid a sheet. Theoretically I should be able to do any design in Rickenbacker stylee - apart from ones that say "Rickenbacker". I do have to point out that fake Rick trcs on copies is frowned upon & will result in immediate & permanent expulsion from the Guild Of Rickenbuggery. J.
I absolutely agree, and will not commit in defrauding any subsequent buyers in that way! I do think that an authentic looking TRC reading Rackenbicker/Rockandroller/Blackendecker/ would set of a rickenbugger just nicely...much like the Bender/Faker transfers for P-bass wannabes!
It is an Ovation Magnum. Magnum 3s and Magnum 4s had a more traditional shape compared to the earlier 1 & 2 series basses.
Ahhh! That explains it, i used a magnum (the one with a little cutaway under the bridge straplock) the basis for my first custom, so i knew I recognised it from somewhere! How long have you had it?
My blue one arrived yesterday and due to being packed really badly with no bubblewrap etc, the tuner for the "E" is bent at about a 30° angle, so doesn't turn at all. I've bodged it with a bit from an old acoustic guitar tuner from my bits box, so it works but looks pretty stupid at the moment with one square white/silver tuner. Hopefully It won't cost too much to get a new tuner - the seller seems willing to sort out the cost.
Jean! That sucks mate! I feel your pain...hope it all gets sorted out!

JapCrap Rickenbacker Copy Restoration
Been on the back burner for a bit, while I try & clear the decks of Ebay-bound JapTat! I've now got a "proper" Rick copy bridge pup for it, and made it a nifty acrylic trc: Guess I should pull my finger out & put the bloody thing together! J.
Just wondering, how do you go about making your acrylic TRCs? -
Last time I went to the US I bought a mint 1989 4003 Ric Bass from a guitar shop, Daddy's Junky Music in Manchester NH. After a bit of haggling I got the bass for $1400 (£700) instead of the $1600 it was up for. After getting home I decided that owning 2 Ric basses was an extravagance I couldn't afford and so I sold it on ebay for £1150, a profit of some £450 which more than payed for my airline ticket... Around 12 months ago you could get a new 4003 for $1400 but demand and subsequent shortage has pushed the new price up to $2200. There are a lot of people over here buying from US ebay which also pushes prices up and then you may well get stung for import duty. Get on a plane and take a holiday...
Hell yes! that was my plan...infact, I've got a clear credit card and a weeks vacation starting on the 3rd july so I might just do it! My one MAHOOOSIVE worry is getting the bass back in one piece and not smashed-to-funk by the baggage throwers...how do you get around this'un?

Who's up for another South East Bass Bash?
phil_the_bassist replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
FWIW anywhere between bath, oxford, southampton and tonbridge, on a date I'm free, will be f**kin awesome! I gotta say, I've never had an opportunity to hang out with like-minded low-enders, so I'll move heaven&earth (but not gigs unfortunately) to get there! -
Im not allowed to play onstage with anything less than 6 now,Low Bs are invaluable, and the high C...wellllll...you can take it or leave it,But I use it alot, positionally speaking, its better than running up and down the neck ALL night, and I find my fretting hands less knackard after 3hrs onstage.Chords sound better. Thing is cost (its an extra string, more cash, you are in education, and times are tight) Its bigger (Can your hands cope) scale (I use a 35" scale, and trust me after years of Fender P usage it feels right weird) 6 IS WAAAYYYY hard, compared to 4,its hard compared to 5.......More strings greater range, more versitility, visually its impressive, but you will find utter dicks that think "Oh man,he plays a 6 so he must over play" or "He must be a brilliant player,He's got a 6" Both scenerios are opposite ends of the coin, sadly people still use their eyes rather than they're ears to judge a persons instrument choice.... So where do I think you should go? For safetys sake 5,YOU WILL NEED A LOW B,in modern music, rock, indie, whatever its become essential,it also rattles windows, and hits you in the gut. Best thing about 6 is you can play classical pieces, cello,Piano etc...even classical guitar parts, and offer a greater bandwidth of support to your band,or other musicians, having another plus octave in your arsenal is always a good thing..... AHHH SCREW IT GET A 6 AND TELL THE WORLD TO BLOW!!! How much cash you got?
+1!
I got the best of both world's I suppose!??! I've got the Ashdown 300 Mag head paired with a Hartke 4x10 TA. I picked up both for £250 for the pair. And I love my Ashdown it's superb, and like Jono said you can get some great sounds out of it using the EQ. Plus the additon to the deep, bright and sub-harmonic button just give you a bit more if you want it. I wanted to get a Trace but I am more than happy with the Ashdown I would suggest going to a local store and trying one out for size.
I've got a hartke ha5500 with a vx215&vx410 and freakin love it! I got to try out a ashdown at the local studios we use for practice, I don't know the spec of the head but it was coupled with an ashdown 8x10. When i first plugged in and started playin, i nearly wet myself...superb sound for the rock stuff we were churning out, but when I went down lower than G it started sounding a bit dead, when I tried to play a low B it seemed to have no balls at all! I tried tweeking the EQ, the Sub-harm etc etc etc but nothing seemed to fix that. Is this just a naff (/abused by previous rehearsing bassists) amp, or is it something others have found?
This should solve your problem, my drummer shudders when I turn up with both cabs! Light and obsenely loud and like you I love 15's
oooooooooohhhhhhhh shinyshinyshinyshiny!! What sorta wattage is that rig? Also, if you don't mind me bein a nosy barsteward, can you give me a ballpark figure of how much that set you back? -
I can't tune the ashbory using a "normal" tuner, but its super-easy with a Planet Waves SOS Bass tuner - It ihas two leds that you shine on the string at the 12th "fret" and they wobble to show how out of tune it is. If you're turning the wrong way the lights wobble faster and slow down as you get closer to the correct pitch until they stop wobbling completely. As I mentioned in another thread about tuners - its the only tuner I use. I keep meaning to get another one as they're cheap and I always worry that I'm going to lose mine. Also I find the intonation is difficult to get right until I use a VERY light touch with my right hand. I guess pressing down hard is enough to stretch the string.
I have to admit, I've not tried tuning it since I got my strobostomp, that might be easier! Those planet waves things look the business, so they actually work then? I love the sound from the ashbory, I've not tried talc on it yet, I just kinda pop away slightly outta tune! gotta love the wierdness of 'em!
Someone ought to do a BassChat covers book. I'd buy it.
+1! on the subject of singers talking too much, on one of my regular gigs our singer usually walks off to take a piss halfway thru set 2, so (as EVERYONE knows it from F1) The Chain outro gets all hell jammed out of it for 5 mins...good fun, esp when me&the drummer drop down to a bouncy swing feel and leave the guitarist out alone in mid solo *sniggers*! Does no-one do I Wish by Stevie Wonder? It's a great tune for the bass and the crowd'll know it from another blatant abuse of a classic tune by Will Smith in Wild Wild West.
+1 Peterson if you can afford it Korg otherwise.
+1 I had a bad case of GAS the other day, but as my local shop had no decent 5string shiny things, I got a strobostomp and I've not looked back!

I've got a blue ashbory, only used it on a gig once (as it was a stupidly simple song and I suck on full-sized fretless, let alone on a ashbory!) One thing I've found to be a pain is tuning 'em up...I can't ever get it accurately in tune EVER! any tips on this would be appreciated!

Upon your death... who gets your bass(es)?
phil_the_bassist replied to EBS_freak's topic in Bass Guitars
My stingray5's getting buried with me, that's for DAMN sure! the rest will get used to club my mortal enemies to death with, i recon...then sell 'em on ebay as murderous Rocknfunknroll items as they'll have notoriety (sp?) for the deaths and the fact that they were owned by ME! *dusts off collar and struggles to fit ego thru the door* proceeds to be split between the BC kitty and my family -
On his other albums it bothers me from time to time that his name gets mentioned so much..."Hey Vic" "Yeah, it's Vic..." etc...etc... Gives me the impression that he likes to hear his own name really a lot. I didn't like the "I saw God" either.. Although I'm a big fan of his playing I'm not that impressed with his composing (rarely a great tune but he does play a nice riff from time to time and has a good energy and vibe). When I went to see his show a couple of years ago I got to meet him afterwards and gave him a solo-cd and asked if he would be willing to listen to it and send me a comment even if he didn't like certain things... He was very eager to have it and put it in his bag and promised me to have a listen and send me an email... I never heard anything from him.. Ok, so he is a busy man but if you don't have the time you can always say that to the people that hand you over a cd. I was a bit disappointed. I send him an email about our meeting but all I got was an automatic response. Still a great bassplayer though who influenced me a lot...
I've had similar experiences with named pro musos (not quite as big as Vic W,) and I think it kinda sucks how a meeting like that lifts your hopes only to be kinda sh*t on as they're too busy to talk to us Little People. Do you think it's their way of gettin payback from when someone did the same to them...?
