I tend not to with the pub covers I was in, and the same with the Jam stuff I've just plowed thru...but all the funk/disco/motown stuff I've played I always still listen to, will always listen to, and cannot think of a situation where I wouldn't listen to all of 'em! Why would anyone take Master Blaster (Jammin') off a playlist?!

Asking for PM offers in the "For Sale" section.
phil_the_bassist replied to rjb's topic in General Discussion
I have to admit, I'd rather someone put a ballpark figure and ask for 'offers around £x' so I know whether it's in my price-range, whether I've got appropriate stuff to offer as a p/x +cash etc etc. but other than that, if that's the way someone wants to sell it then so be it! *settles in to watch this thread unravel * -
Thoughts on this MM SR Auction?
phil_the_bassist replied to dirtylittleherbert's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I swear I've seen that bass listed regularly with the same photo...just like a stunning mid-90's bright orange burst 'ray with the clear pickguard and maple neck which regularly used to pop up. I am probably wrong, but I'd want to see it in the wood (so to speak) before handing over any cash! Mebby ask for a photo with it and today's paper or something? -

Does a refret harm the value of a vintage/rare bass?
phil_the_bassist replied to neepheid's topic in Repairs and Technical
It depends on what you've bought the bass for. I've made the decision to overhaul my 97 'ray with the birdseye neck by replacing the nut with a completely different colour one, fitting a new (non-EBMM original) pickguard and have a John East MM preamp with active/passive switch being installed cos I know I'll be keeping the bass indefinately...and hopefully by the time it's classed as 'Vintage', I'll be famous enough for it to have increased in value exponentially beyond the price of it if it had been all original! -

Unused fingers, and what to do with them
phil_the_bassist replied to DaveMuadDib's topic in General Discussion
my ring and pinkie fingers tend to anchor themselves on the strings below the ones I'm playing... so if I'm playing the G, they're resting on the D and A, if I'm on A, they're on E and B...it helps mute any unwanted ringing too... -

Why is re-spraying a bass so expensive?
phil_the_bassist replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
So an oil change and filter taking 15 mins to carry out, would only cost £23.00p? Or is there a minimum 1 hour charge?
unless they've got a drummer changing the parts -
Keep it simple to start with, economy can be great sometimes. Assuming you're right handed, stand on his left (as you both face the stage) as it's easier to see the kit, the kick pedal and his hands. Watch for any pushes coming up ( our drummer sticks them in randomly without thinking if it compliments the song, twat) It also helps if you get to be mates outside the band. Oh, I forgot, it's also easier if he's a competent drummer.
damn right...or at least one that will, whilst ripping through Mustang Sally at 290bpm, pay attn when you shout "SLOW THE F^2k DOWN!!!" and doesn't just give you a blank, dead-eyed grin.

I've recently traded a SR5 for a Sandberg California JM custom (cheers Nathan!) and altho it's a COMPLETELY different beast to my 'ray, it's a top notch 5er and will be a keeper in my rack along with my other SR5 and my modded-to-two-p'ups Steiny Synapse (cheers Lee!) Haven't played a Lakland or Sadowsky, but if you see a Sandberg, you might like to keep 'em in mind!
if anyone is going to be playing large enough venues to warrant such power, they're not going to be looking to buy a behringer are they?
Too true! I know a few young lads who've got some Bugera stuff, and it works fine WHILST IT WORKS. But they have, out of the 5 units they originally bought, had to get 4 replacements in the past year. Bugera were fine about it (as they were in warranty) and they do exactly what it says on the tin, but you get what you pay for!
