It’s pure Tap hilarity - lots of great quotes. Two other things stood out - They were a real school band, not put together by a management company. Must be one of the last ever boy bands like this. - How absolutely ripped off they were. Sold out stadiums and global number ones - then 3 days after they announced their split, cars repossessed and having to sell wife’s rings to pay the rent. (the DVD, not ashamed to say I have - great extra with Ken, became a very successful music manager, probably the richest and happiest of the band now).

Good drummers and keys players usually the rarest in my experience - I’d always assumed partly down to unwieldy gear

Have used both 45's (Nickel) and 66 (Steel) a lot, never had issues with consistency nor noticed them eating frets. Your preferred DR Hi-Beams are unique as they're Round core vs most other strings being Hex core (just DR and GHS making round wound / round core?). Personally I find this makes a massive difference to playability, much more malleable, esp in the lower register - and for me, more comfortable and more dynamic. Everyone is different though and guess all comes down to personal taste.

I liked them before they were famous. Isn't it just broadly the case that a) we all feel like this about music we liked before others (whilst it was 'ours') b) great bands knock out 3-4 winning albums but the consistency inevitably slides. Best thing a great band can do for long standing critical acclaim is implode after a handful of albums. Reverse of this thread would be interesting - great bands with crap first albums. Radiohead, Slayer and Orbital spring to mind.

Best purchases all entirely practical; 1. Flight box. Tired of failing to stuff everything into amp carrybag & gigbag, now have amp head (TH500), every cable, pedal, tool, spare, the lot, in one place. Set up and pack down so much easier, and less losing / forgetting kit. 2. Tuner (£22 Amazon). Took a punt on this sort of TC copy (it's white..), a year of gigging and can't fault it. 3. Storage. 2 basses, and 1x12 remain at home, everything else in their own private dwelling 2 mins down the road. Great having the space back, and adds to other half's mystique of How many basses do I own. Worst: Aguilar Chorusauras pedal. Expensive, and unpredictable live.

Definitely more than anyone’s ever paid me to play bass! Although - probably a few quid less than many on here earned over the same 7yrs, in significantly more boring jobs. One of the neat ironies being a YouTube success, people that watch your videos and don’t like you, earn you money too.
