New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Drax replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
I snapped up Discreet's bass last week. Having wallowed in all the hype - and then missed the boat with Thomann - I was all set for an anti-climax. Boring as it will be to hear again - I really can't believe they've delivered this for the price they have. Won't repeat the extensive review on here - suffice to say despite minor flaws, the quality is where it counts. The natural resonance, and the Active range are superb. The neck is better finished than my 2014 Am Std Jazz. Used this live in anger yesterday, it really delivers - I feel I'd be well into super Jazz territory before expecting more. Lucky for Squier these aren't (currently) hanging side-by-side in the shop. -
Sandwich Thief and False Teeth are two of the greatest stories I've seen on BC in recent months. More of these please

+1 to the great music sharing. I thought I was the only person out there who appreciates a good Shep Pettibone remix AND Rust In Peace.

Bought Discreet’s Sire V7. All in all pretty painless experience. Circumstances beyond Mark’s control conspired against our initial meet, but we eventually got together later that day, and Mark - being one of life's good guys - threw in a very nice gig bag by way of compensation. Most unnecessary but very decent of him. Great price for a cracking bass, exactly as billed. If you hadn't clocked from the previous 5 pages, buy with confidence.

Im not usually a Metal fan, but this is killer Megadeth.
Tornado Of Souls is a massive highlight for me. Certainly a song that I've had on repeat again and again since I was thirteen!
+1. The whole album is a masterpiece, and Tornado for me the highlight. One day I'll have the time to transcribe Friedmans solos onto the bass. -
Surely Chav Bassist is an oxymoron. The moment you become a bassist, you can no longer be a chav, even if it's a BC Rich

Yep 'known bug'. Happened to me recently, other people could see it though (and it sold rapidly). Usually rights itself in hours.
I see no need for a lock unless it gets shouty? As long as everyone bears in mind that opinions are like arseholes (we all have one) and that mine is as valid as his, which is as valid as hers, which is as valid etc etc etc, it'll be fine. We're all grownups, right?
Fair enough Rich. Was a glib response to what I read as a fairly incendiary statement. Not seriously expecting a lock - I think we all want as little censorship as possible here. Cheers

Blimey IBTL

I can tolerate almost anything in the background. 'Turn the radio off' reserved for Cindi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and the entire collected works of the Lighthouse Family and Snow Patrol.
The Telegraph story is crap. Bass is misidentified and they've shown the worst photos, so it is rather difficult to tell what's going on. http://www.mirror.co...-guitar-5634008 Much better photos. It's definitely not a Warwick. And he is driving.
Shows the decline of media reporting online. I'd laughed at the Telegraph article, that they felt the need to interview the owner of a guitar shop, to validate if this was dangerous, plus stating 'you need 2 hands to play a guitar'. Then the Mirror article has exactly the same tin pot interviews! Crappy stories re-sold and recycled everywhere, clickbait junk that wouldn't make a print product.
Mastering can be the difference between your album sound like a demo or a release quality product.
+1. Absolutely vital and worth every penny.

Accepting that playing around the beat isn't 'pretentious sh*te', and it's a real thing that people (consciously) do. Ubit - ultimately if what sounds 'right' to many, sounds 'bad' to you, this debate might never end

Annoyingly not on iplayer currently, but cracking BBC radio documentary last month - Hunting for Princes Vault. Gave credence to what I'd always thought was an exaggerated urban myth, the huge archives of release ready material that's never seen the light of day. Partly explains why his B sides are so good.

Love the video. Do you still own that bass?

+1 for In-ear bud type headphones. No leakage, and much easier to lug around.
The little fluffs here and there are interesting and just reinforces my belief that audiences are interested in character and drama in their music more than the invention or technical facility of the participants.
Totally agree. It's where the casting vote of great producers like Rick Rubin comes in. It's such a fine line between stupid and clever
I heard this clip on NoTreble and was surprised at just how far ahead the bass gets, especially for someone who is considered funky, normally associated with being behind. http://m.youtube.com...h?v=NaLBZD5Gbqk
Could it be the placement of the recorded bass part has been pulled forward intentionally to give it a bit more pace? Assuming it's legit - always reassuring in those isolated recordings to hear the few missed notes.

Bass Guitar Magazine - Column about Basschat

Copy arrived today - looks good! A whole page as well. Looking forward to seeing how this develops. Fair play to Joel for giving this platform. -
I'd rather listen to a pro describing how their music works than a weekend warrior saying they need this bass or that bass for their sound! It seems crazy that most people will read for hours on what gear to use but then just go, oh the music bit, when I'm playing, that's just me. Nuts. I was watching a questlove video the other day and he explains how he has had to learn how to play behind himself to do the d'angelo records. Software companies have spent a fortune developing quantising grids, or top producers spend ages shuffling waveforms around to get the music happening- quantifying rhythm is what we should be talking about on musician forums, not so much 'I use these strings to play the dog and duck!' Sorry, ranting.....
It's a fair point. Slightly depressing how little content there is on the Technique threads given 30k members (he says not actually contributing much to said threads)

What an incredible record Stand By Me is - the bass, the vocal, that string arrangement. First tune I (and many I guess) learned on the bass. From what I know he was one of the few that didn't get totally shafted, he did very well out of it all.
I'd be programming music on a computer
Exactly this. Even your phone has decent enough apps to vent your musical urges. NanoStudio worth looking at.
