I fall in to one of the above categories I'm afraid. As tempting as the offer is (and as fun as it sounds) at 34 I'd look like your Dad standing on stage with you. If I were 10 years younger...
I'm 36 and almost joined a band with some guys at work who are in early-mid twenties... needless to say I came to my senses after my wife suggested that me playing in same band with me would like playing with the Headmaster (for my sins, I'm the HR Director there) Good luck finding bassist... reckon the NME link is a good starting point

Hi Folks I'm really looking forward to getting 'my' new Epifani UL310 cab (thanks to Ari), although it will be sad to see my Yammies go (thanks to Jase) I can't read enough about it... so to help build up the excitement would be interested in your stories about how luvverly this cab is! Thanks Stu

Frank Sounds like a rather serious case of GAS. It's so easy to get carried away on this site, so may be worth asking yourself 'is it REALLY needed?'
If I'm honest with myself the LM II + Schroeder 1212L isn't big either and does all volumes at a gig but .....
If you decide 'yes' then go for it (subject to reviews and all that), but I sensed from your post that you weren't 100% clear on that Cheers Stu

Just listening to some MP3's of the great man playing (solo - no other instruments, kindly provided on another thread) when my wife turns round and says 'is that you playing?' Ha! Ha! If only! Now, I ought to qualify this by saying that I'm barely competent on the bass, my wife knows nothing about music, even less about bass playing and was not concentrating while reading the paper at the time... but it made me feel good

Fantastic - really glad this buy worked out for you...and this is going to make a mean looking stack on stage!! Would be good if you had some pics to go along with your live review.
I've just bought a beautiful EBS Neo 4 ohm cab and may be interested again in trying this in the near future, if it's still available.
Hiya Alas it's no longer for sale. I have used the significant time this amp has been for sale to find a way to make it work for me and I've realised that it's a blooming brillant pre-amp I reckon it would be a little underpowered paired with one 4 ohm cab unless you are just playing small jazz style venues. Paired with a power amp it's excellent (see amended first posting) Cheers Stu -
I play these guys... DeArmond Jet Star Bass http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...-Star+Bass/10/1 Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...Junior+Jet/10/1 Both sound great @ 31" and 30". I play 60's soul and rock and they work really well for that traditional sound. You'll only be able to get these second hand as I don't think either is made anymore - could try t'bay. Cheers Stu

Thanks guys for the replies Jase - would be interested how you get on (b.t.w. you are the owner of the world's best avatar...that's one funky cat!)

During my latest bout of GAS I was thinking about either getting 5 stringer or maybe even just stringing a 4 string bass B-E-A-D ( as I don't tend to use the G string too much anyway...oooer missus!!) Is the latter a really bad idea (i.e. likely to knacker the neck?) or would it just need some careful set up and truss rod adjustment. Please let me know your thoughts Thanks Stu

Thanks guys - I'm tentatively looking at a BBE BMAX. Sounds like it's do-able if the price is right

I'm not really that knowledgable about electricals so wondered if it was possible / advisable to use a US bass preamp with a step down transformer via the UK mains Exchange rate could make some preamp deals from US really attractive, but don't want to fry myself or other band members for the sake of a few quid If someone could answer and explain (simply) how they work and any risks I'd appreciate it. Thanks Stu
I paid £500 for mine about 18months ago, and don't regret one penny. These are by far the most versatile amp i've played through by a country mile, and this is easily worth £200 for the compression alone. Have a free bump, and if you ever decide to flog those cabs PLEASE let me have first refusal...!
Thanks Jase... I agree it's a really versatile lightweight amp... I'm also amazed at lack of interest at this price... if it wasn't for my wife's one-in-one-out policy I'd be tempted to keep it as a back up (b.t.w. will let you know if I ever decide to flog the cabs) -
