1. Thanks Bubinga - another gem uncovered!
 2. Just bought Strymon Mobius from Russ. Super quick delivery, in great condition (as described) and hassle-free transaction.
 3. I suffered from blisters etc. on fingertips when playing with roundwounds. Just bought my first set of tapewounds and as long as you don't want a zingy bright tone, they sound and feel fantastic to play
 4. I replied to an advert on joinmyband.co.uk and I think they only had two applicants. As others mentioned, this is very location dependent. May be worth applying to existing ads on these sites, as well as hoping that your profile will attract others?

 8. I liked both the TKS 112's and Berg CN112's with the GK MB's. Two of these would be pretty loud. TKS more of a mid's / high mid's bump, Bergs more low mids bump, but both EQ'able with the powerful GK MB EQ. Both do other options if you need more volume. Schroeder and Barefaced also well worth a look, as mentioned above. I went for the 2 x TKS S112 in the end, balancing cost, portability, quality, volume etc.
 9. This is more like it...https://www.youtube....DDigVmVFc#t=538 or this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycN9x_5MqHQ Another two Rob Allens but VERY different approach and playing.
 10. Dan has just left after buying my (now his) Matamp Gt200 and RB212 cab. While I am sad to see it go, it has gone to a good home He's a really nice guy, good communication and absolutely hassle-free transaction. Thanks Dan.
 11.
Farewell..? Why?
I'm selling it and as of Friday it may be gone Need a smaller more modular set up for rehearsals and gigs, but can't afford to keep the Matamp as well.
 12. Really interesting day out at Bass Gear and (more briefly) Bass Direct today to try out the various options. Thought I'd report back given how helpful everyone on this thread has been Well, first of all I think we have a breakthrough in testing (well, new to me anyway!). We managed to set up my Ditto looper pedal and their Lehle input switching device at Bass Gear (with help from Molan - thanks!) which made the process of twiddling with knobs while playing and comparing cabs / amps a lot easier. You could record a bass line, loop it, play around with EQ / settings and then walk back and have someone switch between amps/cabs etc. really, really useful! So here are my observations (FWIW after all they're only one person's opinions): Cabs - I loved the Berg CN112's. Slight bias towards the mids and lower mids which sounded great with the amps I tried with no EQ adjustments. The TKS S112 cabs were also really impressive but (to my ears) had more of a mids and upper-mids punch, HOWEVER, they responded really well to EQ to the extent that a slight boost on the lower mids and tiny tweak on the bass brought them to the same sound (using the same amp) as the Bergs... and they are half the price! Needless to say, I'll be going with two of the TKS S112 cabs. Amps - this was the biggest revelation. Before starting the day, I fully expected to walk away with either a Demeter or a Glockenklang on the basis that I like buying top quality gear, they have an excellent reputation and I liked what I'd heard on YouTube. However, I was really impressed with the Bass Gear approach of 'start with the cheapest and work your way up'. Much to my surprise the GK MB Fusion didn't do it for me (didn't like the tube pre - despite currently having a wonderful tube amp) and I much preferred the solid state version. The solid state GK MB 800 is way more power than I'll ever need, sounded powerful, rich but articulate and EQ'd very well when seeking other tones. After trying the GK MB 800 I tested it against the Aguilar TH500. Great amp but I wasn't keen on the interaction between gain and drive as I don't look for an overdriven sound from my amp. Next up was the Demeter. It looks beautiful, sounds great but once again, with careful EQ'g the GK MB 800 could get close enough for my ears at around half the cost. Perhaps if I was super critical the Demeter may have been marginally sweeter in the upper-mids / highs but that doesn't feature highly in my playing and not worth the extra dosh (for me). Then followed a long trek up to Bass Direct where a very busy Mark set me up with a TecAmp Puma and Glockenklang Blue Sky into two Berg CN112's. The TecAmp sounded similar-ish tonally to the GK MB 800, a really good amp but I probably marginally preferred the Glockenklang through the Berg CN112's. Really articulate, refined but punchy tone but I would be concerned that a refined, punchy amp through the punchy TKS cabs would not suit my playing. It was also the most expensive of the bunch. So after all that, I've decided that the GK MB 800 is the one to go for on the basis of plenty of headroom, light as a feather, powerful, rich articulate sound, quiet (fan didn't come on at mid volume), very effective EQ and is the cheapest of those that I looked at by over £100. Words - one person's "warm" is another person's "muddy", one person's "clean" is another person's "sterile" etc. Words have limited use when describing sound and the best way is to ask advice, narrow down the options and then try them out. Only then will you be able to find out what is right for you. Also, it's easy to obsess over gear and fine nuances when the reality is that in a gig situation very few people will notice the difference. All the amps and cabs tried were great and I'm sure (without such a great choice) any of these would have made me very happy. Many thanks to Molan, Vic, Mike (customer, bass reviewer and labrador owner) and Mark for their help.
 13. Thanks folks - very useful Think I'll stack vertically only if I don't get the dispersion I need and am 100% confident that no one (other than me!) is going to get close enough to accidentally topple the rig. Otherwise think I'll be happy with horizontal stacking of two 1x12" cabs
 14. A farewell pic of my Matamp... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:187475]
 15. Currently on a mission to read everything on the internet before purchasing new amp/cabs... Looking at a 2x12" modular cab set up to provide flexibility for rehearsals gigs etc. The TKS cabs that I am considering (2 x TKS 112's) would be 104cm high on a base of 38cm x 33cm. They look great, really flexible, get the sound nearer your ears for monitoring on small stages, aid sound dispersion but before going this route I was wondering how stable they are. Would hate to buy a great new amp only to have it topple from over a metre high when someone bumps into it
 16. Ok thanks Michael
 17. This is what I meant... the cabs are 52x38x33 cm so stacking them leads to an overall height of 104cm vertically (2x52) or 76cm horizontally (2x38), but in both cases the speakers are aligned directly above each other. Obviously the sound is nearer your ears if stacked vertically but wondered if there were any benefits with dispersal as well. Sorry if I'm being thick about this, but I'm genuinely interested
 18. Thanks Michael - so, if I understand this right... two 1x12" cabs stacked vertically on top of each other, will disperse sound better than two 1x12" cabs stacked horizontally on top of each other (i.e. not side by side) even though in both cases the speakers are vertically aligned
 19. Interesting stuff... do you think that there would be much difference in horizontal dispersion when using 2 x 12's (like the TKS S112's) vertically rather than horizontally as they only have one 12" speaker each?
 20.
the fan is audible (especially if you're listening out for it) so if you're playing quietly on your own you'd definitely hear it.
Thanks Norman
 21. Currently on hold - will update if this changes
 22. Thanks again to all who have posted - this is really useful It seems like all amps should be powerful enough, some may be a bit too noisey (fans etc.) when practicing at home, some may break up more as volume increases, others may be a bit too clean. From what I have read here and elsewhere, I think that the Demeter and Tecamp are in pole position, followed by the Aggie TH500 and GK Fusion, with the Glock and Reidmar as outliers... ...but there is only one way to find out!
 23. Thanks guys - The Aguilar TH500 is definitely an option but I read that the interaction between gain and drive can be a bit of a pain which takes some fine tuning. I'd rather just whack up the volume and have the sound stay similar... only louder! I'd prefer an amp that is warm/rich sounding and but remains clean / not distorted as volume increases. Will add it to the list to try out and keep an eye out for Steamliners etc. Interesting post about the TKS shoot-out... I feel a road trip to Bass Gear and Bass Direct coming on! Would also be interested to hear from owners of the Glock, Tecamp etc.
 24. Good people of Basschat... I’d really appreciate your help / advice after deciding that I need to go lightweight for rehearsals / gigs. After much thinking, I have decided on the cabs (TKS S112 x 2 vertical with no tweeters) but need a head to go with them. This is where I am struggling, although I have a good idea what I need:

Power - enough headroom to play rock with two guitars, drums and keys for say 300-400 person venues. I don’t tend to dig in when playing so this is important
Tone – warm sound but not muddy, with plenty of heft/weight to the notes and even response across lows, low/high mids and highs
Noise – I would like the amp to be whisper quiet when practicing at home. So, any hissing, fan noise, buzzing etc. would be a definite ‘no'
EQ – nothing too complicated. Just a good tone out of the box and a few minor tweaks on the pre-amp controls
Size – small enough to fit on a vertical S112 (38cm W x 33cm D)
Weight – anything less than about 10kgs would be fine
I’ve narrowed it down to a few heads:

Tecamp Puma 500 / 900
Glockenklang Blue Soul / Sky
EBS Reidmar
GK Fusion 500 / 800
Demeter VTBP800
Is there anything that I’m missing or could any owners of the heads above let me know if they think their head could give me what I’m looking for. Many thanks
