Need help deciding on a lightweight 2x10 + amp.
saibuster replied to saibuster's topic in Amps and Cabs
I am not convinced about Markbass cabs. Your budget will strech to the Nemesis RS400 but if you want proper Eden you need to look for used. There was a couple of David Series 2x10's for sale but they were not the neo and I cant recall anyone having the neo's. There have been a few Genz Shuttles sold on recently so you might be lucky.
http://www.thebassgallery.com/nemesis.html check this out, as far as i understand the Nemesis is the budget range of Eden, i can get a new amp + cab for less than 800. Also there is no mention about them being lightweight. Eden has a neo series, but it seems like no one in the world has ever tried them. They also released a new class D amp at namm 09, but i dont think i would be able to afford it new. -

if only [post="0"]this[/post] was lightweight, it probably weighs like a small car. -
(Edit: Just remind me, what was the problem with the ho's and the drugs?)
Well its not really a problem, but i need an amp and i cant have both!
No indication of budget? Dont know how they compare to Eden cos I never used it, but the Genz Benz Shuttle and NeoX210T (50 lbs) would be a cracking rig. Eden do a D210XST Neo cab that comes in at 49 lbs and the Nemesis N210RS at 47 lbs. Tecamp do some nice light cabs and amps as well. These have not been available but seeing as BGM reviewed some this month I assume they will be in the shops soon. The S210 is 39 lbs and the M210 40 lbs.
Well i'm thinking around the 800£, i think that should be enough for a second hand amp + cab, im looking to get around the 500 watts as i have to compete with two watts hungry metal guitarist. By the way, the reason i like Eden so much is that it sound seem to work very nicely with warwick basses. To my ears Eden emphasizes the same frequencies that tend to pick with my warwick (low mid growl, sweet highs). I got BGM this weekend, didnt have a chance to read about Tecamp, i think they are fairly new not sure i'll get much luck getting them second hand.
For gigging I'm currently using a Genz Benz shuttle 6 and two Mark Bass 2 x 10's and for rehearsing just one of the 2 x 10's. Really pleased with it and cuts through nicely, even with four guitars . keyboards and drums.
So it seems like the combination of Markbass + Genz Benz seems to be a consensus. How would you describe the sound you get out of it? -
Hi. I will soon have sufficient funds for a 2X10 cab + amp. But in order to keep my saving going and not spend the money on ho's and drugs i need to get some saving motivation. Basically i LOVE the Eden sound, round and sweet yet somewhat hi-fi (to my ears anyway). Thing is, i like to keep my back training strictly to the Gym. So im looking for a lightweight solution 2X10 that would be loud enough for a small to medium club, and would generate a sound that has similar characteristics as Eden. I hope thats not too much to ask?

ok, a positive update! I came to pickup the bass today after Alex had done a very good setup on it, and basically finished almost everything i've asked for. After speaking with Alex, who is a very nice and helpful guy, I realised that this whole situation was beyond anyones control and that there was definitely no bad customer service involved. I would recommend the gallery to anyone and im definitely going to use their services again!

Playing live with POD X3, Help needed.
saibuster replied to saibuster's topic in Repairs and Technical
Maybe im thinking too much like a sound engineer and not like a bass player . I think i will create a couple of different presets ranging from pure DI to heavy modeled bass amp tone and check which one works best during sound check. The rest of the work i will leave for the engineer. (ahh leaving my precious tone for a complete stranger... ) thanks for your thoughts ! -
I want to share my customer service experience with the bass gallery and hear opinions about it. Last wednesday i took my warwick for setup and a pre-amp custom job i had in mind. When i got there i met Martin, i explain my problems and what i want to do and he was very nice, took his time to look at my needs and offered some really nice solutions. We agreed that i will come to collect the bass the following wednesday ( a week after ) and that i should give him a call a day before coming to collect it. I left the gallery with a very good feeling that my bass is in good hands. It also felt very good to have this sort of personal customer treatment. I wasn't able to collect the bass yesterday (wednesday), and so decided i will come and collect it tomorrow (friday). I called today and asked for Martin, the guy who answered said that Martin is off for holiday. I explained to the guy who i'm, and that im coming to collect the bass. His replay was that no one started to work on the bass. I asked him how come, and he said that Martin went on holiday and he cannot read the notes that he left on the bass (A to do list). At that point i got to upset and decided that i'd better finish the conversation and go get a cold glass of water... What is going on here??? I left the bass there for more than a week and they didnt even touch it!!! This is my only bass, i dont have a backup bass. I have a very important recording session on saturday that i needed my bass in top condition for and now i just dont know what to do!! I heard so many good things about the gallery and i just dont know how to explain this. This is the same sort of customer service i would expect to get at Denmark street. I'm extremely disappointed.

I've got a POD X3 and and it is one of my favorite piece of kit, I use for home practice and recording. The presets I'm using are all my own as the factory presets are unusable (im very gentle here). I've got some gigs coming up and since i don't have an amp or cab I'm planning on using the POD straight to the PA. I'm probably guessing that the presets I've programed for practice and recording wont work in a live situation. Most of them are combinations of DI + MIC/CAB/AMP simulation (yes the X3 has a bi-amp option). I'm a studio sound engineer but have 0 experience when it comes to live situation. I'd love to hear tips and experience anyone had playing straight into the PA. Can your generic PA handle the whole bass freq spectrum? or shall i use HiPass filter to cut 30hz and below? How would you use your compressor? shall i leave a lot of dynamic space or limit the signal into a straight controlled volume? I'm sure i wont have the time to program a preset that would work specifically for each venue during sound check. That is why I'd like to hear some generic ideas regarding PA. Thanks!

I love them. I'd guess that in order to properly cover them, you'll have to get an additional technition that will trigger loops and synths. This also means that everyone will have to have in ear headphones running synchronised click. I cant see how you can REALLY cover them without the electronic touch.

Wow guys! i somehow manged to forget about this post. I've just read the whole thing again and i really really appriciate your help and thoughts! I will consider and talk with my band about the ideas and update this post if we get an idea for an interesting image. This forum is amazing! Btw, thats my band www.myspace.com/tranquilfury

Hey guys thanks for your replies! Going to use these points on our next band meeting and do a little brain storming. Did any band ever used prison uniform? (you know black and white strips, boots... ) I could even have one of these big old round weights around my leg, good excuse not having to jump around!
Battered, ripped, muddy old suits? Like you'd just been dug up? Lol. I dunno.
I like the idea of a suit any time but the guys said its been done before. But maybe a zombie suite is actually a good idea!

I agree with having a theme, i mean those country church guys deliver the goods! The problem begins when you try to look cool but have no idea about image, than you end up looking like this georgian group:

Hello guys, didnt write here for a while and its good to be back! My band went to Vodafone's unsigned bands competition today and we passed the first level. The second audition is going to be for the area's finals (before the national final event). We received some papers with information on what we need to prepare for the second event and apart from the music, it seems like the put a lot of emphasis on performance and image. Now here is the thing, we are playing hard rock, or melodic metal, what ever you want to call it, none of us is into indie or any of the more mainstream rock that is happening at the moment. This also means, we are not going to wear the current rocks uniform (black skinny jeans, insanely tight worn out t-shirt, big glam curly hair). This puts us in a problematic area, how can we deliver a contemporary image that fits our music without looking dated or skinny? If it was up to us, we would all wear a plain t-shirt and straight jeans, but its obvious that this would reduce our chance to win. I would love to hear the trusty forum members thoughts about it, also, are there any "style" or "image" agencies that could help us? we take this band very seriously and would invest money in image if needed. cheers!

Im definitely going to get one (if i wont get fired next month! ). Does anyone know what's the difference between the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified?

I understand wateroftyne opinion and i agree that any musical instrument should be tested in your own hands before getting into a conclusion. But i do feel that this review shows that Squire basses are now proving to be a HUGE bang for the buck. Unfortunately "Made in America" doest mean a lot to me anymore, and i really truly believe that the people who make these basses in Indonesia or China or whatever have a much bigger drive and interest to make their instruments to the highest possible quality with the tools they have. The same thing cannot be said about American factories. (GM, FORD anyone?) They have nothing to prove to anyone (or shall i say had? ).

BTW, I'm not dissing Fender in any way, but rather praising Squier.
How two basses compare in an living room at 'polite' volume is no indication of how they will compare at a gig. Playing stuff at volume really brings out the differences.. I'm not neccessarily talking about what the punters hear - more how the player hears it. That counts for a lot.
Can you elaborate on that? I mean, how will it sound different loud if it produces very similar frequencies, transient attack and formant? IMO it looks like the only difference would be the ability to get a good setup and construction quality.

If you think about getting a pro sequencer, dont bother with logic(Time stretch in time machine anyone?! ). I've been using logic for the last 10 years and recently switched to cubase. I'd go for a second hand Macbook pro 2.4ghz with 2 gig ram. that should be enough for a big project with cpu hungry plugins like waves.

This thread makes me think about selling my kidney.

Very interesting, how much did you end up paying for everything? (bass, parts, installation). Can i guess that with the upgrades, this bass would sound better than MIA standard jazz?

Nice pictures. That 75 RI is really getting my GAS going!

need help choosing a 5 strings bass similar to warwick.
saibuster replied to saibuster's topic in Bass Guitars
The string spacing on the warwick is pretty tight, 16mm which is similar to the sr505. but the neck is much thinner on the Ibanez. I think i'd have to try it out and see how it feels. -

thanks for the idea guys. I'll probably wait for a used sr505 to show up. Seems like an awesome bass for the price. How is the quality control for Ibanez? Can you get really good ones or bad ones for the same model?
