1. I've never noticed any latency - I think it depends on how you set the patch up. The other thing worth mentioning with the Minitaur is that for patch selection and programming your gonna need some kind of software support, ie a laptop or tablet. You can select patches on the front panel but I'd say it's easier with a visual representation of the patch banks. And yes there's a vid of Billy Sheehan using them live and also one of Doug Wimbish in one of those rig rundown vids. If they're good enough for those guys... On a general note, I'm surprised that one of the synth manufacturers didn't pick up the Taurus baton over the years and make a stand alone Moog clone with the four sounds from the original that everybody wanted.
2. Hi gelfin. I'm pretty much a Taurus nut. From around the time Mike Rutherford stood on a set in the mid-'70's and I've followed the progress of the Mk.3 since there inception (I even considered putting down a deposit for the first 500 I think). As I said before I get what I want on a much smaller budget but after my imminent lottery win I'll be in the market
3. Is anyone else totally staggered at the prices being asked for these things? There's a set on that trading bay for £3.5k!!! I love the sound and I've got it with a Minitaur and a McMillen 12-step. £700 and you won't slip a disc lugging them
4. http://www.spectorbass.com/euro4-lx-twtrade.html Moderate to heavy GAS.
5. The twin's just as beautiful! The Aguilar pups look cool on the Helium too. What's the difference with those? Got my bank statement open in another pane!
6. The plum one's wrong, just WRONG! But the Helium's a beauty.
7. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Spector_Euro_LX_maple.html This..... is giving me GAAAAASSSS!
8. That funny diddle-de-dee sound on 10cc's Rubber Bullets is a Rick put through a wah, so if you ever cover it...
9. Ned clearly loved that body shape - here's my NS-94.
10. If you've got the cash to meet the GAS crack on. But if you're worried about damaging it get yourself something cheaper to gig with. By the law of diminishing returns a £4k bass ain't gonna sound that much better than something a quarter of the price, especially in the lager infused acoustics of the Dog and Duck at 11pm on a Saturday night.
11. This guy did a great series about movie soundtracks a while back too.
12. He produced and played on the first half of Gail Ann Dorsey's (Bowie's bass player - but you all know that) 1988 album The Corporate World. Cracking album and a good listen for bass players.
13. Illness doesn't excuse a bad performance - if you're ill, you cancel the gig!
14. Compared to what you can spend on a bass these days (even 2nd hand) £140 is peanuts isn't it. So yes, it's value for money.
15. I've got one, £140 off eBay and I can report that it's a nice bass. Had to pieces Sherlock Holmes style but couldn't find much out.
16. As far as the funk machine is concerned, you've got the pro thief who knew exactly what he was stealing (probably an insider) or the opportunist who sold it on for a bit of cash and it's probably long gone. It's a shame but let's not get all dewy eyed - it's a '62 P - plenty of those around.
17. Wonder why the 'funk' machine's never turned up?
18. Listen to 'You're All I Need To Get By' with your sub turned up - superb sound. Didn't the studio have a wooden floor that was hollow underneath or something? Fender Bassman?
19. Saw The Christians at The Hammersmith Odeon in '88 I think and Roachford were the support band. That gig was value for money.
20. A bit of a punk, enough said.
21. STILL the best use of a FF button since '70's porn! Wilco was awful - I think a bit of boogie-woogie piano would have improved his set though. And Ruby Turner - she must have been hard to get hold of (ten days before NYE when it's recorded). Borefest.
22. I thought my HDD was playing up when they went out of time! And Norman's sound was awful. Plus I was watching a show that was recorded 10 days previous, you'd think a 2nd take was in order?
23. My trusty NS-94 and a styleised (it's trans blue) pic of my first bass - NS-2000/4 bought new from the Bass Centre in '99. Mid-range Spectors have great build quality and are therefore good platforms for electronics upgrades. Both of these go for less than £200 these days. Also not so long ago I remember the Czech LX series going for £600-700 in the now defunct Sound Control - how did they get so expensive?
