  1. A while back Danny Baker challenged the view that music in the UK was in poor health prior to the arrival of punk. No it wasn't, it thrived throughout. Punk made a huge visual impression because media types loved repeating images of gobbing, pogoing and Sid Vicious covered in blood ad nauseam with Malcolm Mclaren laughing all the way to the bank.
  2. This punk derailment is easily worth it's own thread. I'll start one.
  3. Agreed, those two are giant breadheads these days. Mind you Bowie's Glasto show's only just been released.
  4. Exactly what I thought; small stuff about small stuff.
  5. Punk, in a show about the guitar? Did punk do anything to advance the guitar? All punk was tv friendly offensive $h1te.* *tick, tick, tick.....
  6. Just watched the guitar episode. So there's this guy I've never heard of from that band with the excruciating singer... WOW, WOW, WOW! Great show, great presenter, great contributors, great content. The electric guitar has been in the general public's consciousness virtually forever and is an instrument even a layperson knows something about or can relate to. Therein lies one of the problems with the show about the one with the long neck and the chunky strings. The guitar's always been about a 6(12) stringed instrument played with two hands. Ways of producing bass in music are very diverse. I think the production team dithered about the content and dissatisfied most viewers. But, the guitar show was great. ps. Nice to see George Benson get and few seconds and where the F's Uli Roth been all my life?
  7. Ooh mate, you can't slag TW off on here, you'll be telling us Geddy Lee's rubbish next! 😁
  8. +1, well said sir. Basically Tina Weymouth's knowledge was too limited for this. And it is possible to do this in an hour if you exclude trivia like New Order and Mr Rascal.
  9. Yes I bet the bass was the hot topic in pubs up and down the land last night. Nice change from brexit and footy.
  10. The show felt more like Tina's scrapbook than a history of bass.
  11. Lots of musicians aren't relevant from a public point of view but are relevant from a musical point of view.
  12. Carol played a Precision exclusively on all the Motown hits.
  13. A programme of two halves (Ron bass player). Enthralled for thirty minutes then it totally lost it's way. No Jaco? Regardless of how you feel about him he really should have got a shout. No Chris Squire? John Entwistle? Adam Clayton?
  14. Geddy really ought to be there!
  15. I recall the previous thread about the rackmount unit and it did sound good and said at the time it needs to be in a pedal. £200-ish?
  16. This post is awesome. In the space of a page three of the most dreadful bass tones have been mentioned: Geddy, Lemmy and Entwistle. Geddy to bass tech: 'I need you to make this Jazz sound like a Rick cos Fender are paying me a shedload to play them...'
  17. Quit sitting on the fence will you?
  18. This. They were the greatest. Fact. End of.
