1. Vintage TV (freeview 82) tonight 10.30pm - Nile in conversation with Neil McCormick.
 2.
My ideal travel/practice/mixer-upper package would be a regular LMIII with aux in/headphone out.
This. The Big Bang's got a headphone out.
 3. I hate flashy playing for the sake of it and with a back catalogue like Chic's there's no need for it.
 4.
I would get a Minitaur at around £395 and a set of midi bass pedals for about £300 save money, save weight and space! I had a set of Taurus pedals and they sounded great but had very limited use for the outlay.
Cheers Ash. That's precisely what I have already but my GAS got the better of me.
 5.
You'd have thought with NAMM every year being the pinnacle of manufacturers showing off their new stuff that they would plan their release around NAMM. I.e. Build prototypes, do testing etc before NAMM, get loads produced before NAMM and then release with stock following almost instantly. Most manufacturers seem to take something to NAMM sand you're lucky if it hits the retailers within 3-6 months, even for the big guys. Totally crazy, cos you'd make a killing if you had something good and people could just buy it before anything else got released!
There's a trend these days with pre-selling new houses. Maybe it's being applied to other stuff.
 6.
This is utterly delusional. A lot of music has to be seriously compromised in order to get it onto vinyl in the first place.
Good point. Sting's 2nd cd (Nothing Like The Sun) was also released on double vinyl presumably so that the dynamics were retained instead of trying to squeeze it (time and compression-wise) onto a single LP. Genesis were one of the biggest offenders, often squeezing 25 mins per side onto vinyl.
 7. There's another thread on here for LJ's passing and someone said it's him on a Stingray. A lot of it sounds like a bass to me.
 8.
Someone on talkbass asked Plati on his forum and Plati replied saying they got bored, and since GAD is a decent guitar player and can also slap just as well, it didnt make any difference, and they had some fun in the meantime
Bored on a Bowie gig lol - wish I could get that bored! He did a great job anyway.
 9.
Thats because there's nothing remotely musical as far as slap bass goes. Well, there's exceptions of course, but they're in the minority Mark Plati springs to mind and shows how its possible to be musical http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNqo0kIR-TU
Great example. Never understand why he and Gail switched for that one.
 10. This might seem a bit sketchy but it's 3rd hand from a buddy who was in the shop. Hopefully pics to follow. White Fender Jazz four string, ebony board, dark scratchplate, 2008 model. I'm describing from pics I've seen but am unable to upload. Chesapeake Mill Antiques, Wickham, Hampshire.
 11. The Hipshot site gives details for what fits what.
 12.
AKA 'The London Bass Guitar Show'
Had I been drinking coffee I'd have spat it out!
 13.
There's something utterly joyous about watching older performers/bands, who must know their golden age is over, going out and not only winning over that massive crowd but absolutely slaying it. Best Glasto set I've watched this year.
I know what you mean - The Who did it a few years back too.
 14.
You can feel reassured... it was what looks like a bitsa with an Eric Clapton Blackie neck on it. Edit: Just had a look at it (recorded on my Sky Box...) 2nd tune in he you get a full screen shot of the headstock... definitely an Eric Clapton Blackie neck, but the body looks like a custom. It has a side mounted jack for one...
You're quite right - just had another look and it does indeed say Eric Clapton on the headstock.
 15.
I'm here and I'm seeing far more Jazzes on the smaller stages.
I stand corrected. I just wish one of the big acts would buck the trend and turn up with a dead posh bass.
 16.
Is it just me that thinks the Foo Fighters' "spontaneity" is well practiced? There's something obviously disingenuous about Dave Grohl's laconic charsima.
That's what turns me off.
 17. I reckon wiring someone's thumb up to a million volts dc so it forms a circuit if it touches the strings is do-able. Just sayin'.
 18.
It'd be great if it was Adrian Belew, Stewart Copeland and a bass player who wasn't Mark King.
19.
Glastonbury is just like a big version of Jools Hollands show - A few decent acts but most of it is utter dross. The presenters follow up by saying every act was amazing or brilliant, it would be great to hear one of them say that was f*cking sh*te.
You've got a point there but you've forgotten the golden rule of music telly presenting - never criticise anything!
 20.
What would we end up with though if they tried to put on the festival with only bands that have never appeared on Jools Holland?
Some prog
 21. I noticed early on in the Glasto coverage that Ed O'Brien has his name on the headstock of his Strat. On further investigation it's a custom shop with a Fernandes sustainer system. Never thought I see anyone from RH taking da mans dollars.
 22. Is that the doc BBC4 ran in two parts? If so +1.
 23. Of course Goodall's seminal work was the Blackadder theme
