1.
I think Thundercat has some good tunes there, if, you changed the drummer and I re wrote all the basslines without the bloody twoddle!
2.
It could be that the imagery is so strong it affects your noggin deeply. The lyrics and music are so deeply integrated, the whole effect is more powerful than the individual elements, and that somewhat transports the listener into the narrative. Or something.
That's an excellent explanation - Joni never did anything by half!
3.
The Hissing of Summer Lawns does it for me. I can't imagine many folks not feeling chilled out after listening to this
Prince said this was one of the albums he liked all the way through. I love it too but it gives me the strangest feeling when I listen to it. I wonder if Joni put any subliminal stuff on it?
4. Sex On Fire. Seriously, Man on the Moon, a pop masterpiece.
5. What's surprising is that Joolz keeps going - I suppose a contract in you hand is a big deal.
6. My in depth review. Kasabian: 6-string 4000 shaped guitars look really silly. Goldfrapp: Charlie Jones is still playing his plexi Precision. The show: still sh1t. That's it.
7.
Is it available online?
Not sure but Vintage tv occasionally repeat their shows.
8. Grab this opportunity with both hands! And turn those backing vocals into lead vocals if you can too. Was briefly in a three piece where we shared vocals and I found the huge step up from bass/bv's to occasional main man totally liberating. Also, now you've got the space, buy tons of pedals and get yourself some bass pedals, preferably the Roland 25 note version - you'll have all the space in the world!
9. Watched this initially out of curiosity. Turns out he's a smart guy. Great interview and interview technique - Neil McCormack let's people answer questions fully. I had Into The Gap by Thompson Twins back in the day - good album and I loved those synth bass lines he did.
10.
I think that was before she 'made it'. An incredibly beautiful song and performance.
You're right. Steve came across her in the US prior to starting the album.
11. Apologies if I've missed this, I've just scanned through the thread. Did Dick Nolan's Legacy Elite ever pass through BC?
12. What's the Moog circuitry all about - this is new to me?
13. Chris striking with a pick and following through with his thumbnail on a Rick and Geddy's finger style on a Jazz. Of course it's all in the fingerzzzz.... Was Bill Bruford there?
14. WTF's Trevor Rabin doing there! Slightly trickier bass line done finger style I think. Well done Geddy.
15. Nice post. Believe it or not she sang on a Steve Hackett track - check out Hoping Love Will Last from his Please Don't Touch album. Saw her with Joe Sample and IIRC his son on bass in Plymouth in '06. Excellent.
16. Nice Brian Pern moment last week when they were discussing the plethora of Thotch greatest hits/best of packages. When they were just repackaged with a bonus track they were giant rip offs. With the advent of downloads the record companies can't get away with that anymore. Outtakes - don't get me started! The Led Zeppelin back catalogue reissues - don't get me started! Jimmy Page - get a post Led Zeppelin career already!
17.
It's been advertised for a while.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300658-never-seen-one-of-these-before/ I quite like it in a "Bass, the final frontier" way...looks like a Klingon Bird of Prey
You beat me to it. Defo look better when cloaked.
18. Anything from Synchronicity but particularly King of Pain - 'there's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt'. His early solo lyrics are good too.
19.
Turktown? At least you're not a Joe Jackson tribute! :-)
Ha ha, another Turktownie here.
20.
We all have bad days mate. Blue's a decent guy, I'm sure he won't hold it against you
This.
21. Just seen your 'talk sh*te' comment to Blue! I had to laugh (WITH both of you). That guy's got to have the thickest skin on this site!
22.
I've always thought Thin Lizzy's 'Waiting for an alibi' gives a great representation of a phased Bass sound. Nice and high in the mix too.
I always used a flanger for that and got the sound spot on. They're kind of the same aren't they?
23. Some lovely bass on Diva by Annie Lennox (great production too) and Seal's first album.
