Real Gone Kid..plinky keyboards, terrible girly background vocals, cheesy strings (not the kids snackfood)
Her vocals were awful but she was in the band for legitimate reasons - her and Ricky Ross playing hide the sausage had nothing to do with it.
 2.
"Is it your first Spector?" No, I've had a Euro 4 LX for years. Absolutely love it. Stunning instrument. I had a Euro 5lx which I regretted selling, so this one fills the gap very nicely. I may even prefer it, not sure yet.
Ha ha, you're hooked already. I also love my Euro LX.
 3. I wanted to be a drummer. First non mainstream album I liked was Made in Japan and I was in awe of Ian Paice. Then I borrowed Fragile by Yes. Total game changer.
 4.
Queen. I grew up being totally engrossed by Brian May's guitar playing. I suppose that was the band I heard the most despite being exposed to such a wide range of music as a kid. Everything from The Everly Brothers to Iron Maiden, The Damned, Glen Cambell to Jeff Wayne. Then there was that other guy playing an instrument that looked like it'd far better fit me..and it sounded cool... really cool.. When humming a tune, it was always the Bass line I gravitated to. I'd never remember lyrics but I could easily pick out a Bass line when others couldn't. This is certainly the video that changed it for me: I recorded the televised version and as a teen proceeded to learn every note of the gig, even the wrong ones.
I remember at the beginning of the Bohemian Rhapsody video John's Precision was in shot behind Freddie which left an impression.
 5. I know the OP has relatively simple needs but these are great.
 6. That is indeed a bargain. Let us know if that G is a problem.
 7. The Gator shallow racks are 36.2cm deep. Maximum height is 6U. http://www.gatorcases.com/p/29201-1398/gr-6s
 8.
Roger Waters. Greg Lake.
Fair one.
 9. That's a lovely bass, one of the iconic bass designs IMO. That's seems a very good price too.
 10.
contempt for the punters? where do you get that from??? the band has chosen the OP to play bass for them, and they are clearly happy he can do the job. Where you assume contempt there may just be confidence on their part that the OP is doing a good job. The OP may have doubts about his own ability, and feel a bit under pressure, understandably... and having self-doubts is not a bad thing if it makes you work harder to make sure you're prepared. "oh we don't do that version"... yeah it happens... but that's a different matter altogether and not what we have here.
Contempt in the sense that a band should be at its best ie well rehearsed. Sorry for having an opinion.
 11.
Tell them old prog bands used ricks and modern prog bands use 6 string Bongos. that should shut the feckers up.
This. I can't think of many proggers back in the day who used Fenders bar John Paul Jones and occasionally Geezer.
 12.
Don't forget the Mellotron...
You beat me to it with the Mellotron!
 13.
If they'd keep the original headstock shape I could've lived with it... Shergold= distinctive headstock...
Yeah but Wal have cornered the market in enormous 2+2 headstocks.
 14. I don't think it's very professional either and shows a contempt for the punters. Besides which a covers band should always be introducing new stuff. On a side note I've always found that most bands aren't very prepared for a new member - 'oh we don't do that version' 'well why didn't you tell me that beforehand?!'
 15. LaBella do a copper tapewound set. Got them on my Thumb. They did 'oxidise' a bit at the nut end though so I now have a copper/green effect
 16. Someone's already said that this is a problem that's never needed solving which is why they've never caught on.
 17.
I knew i was wrong with Firth and that's why i then thought it must have been Down & Out. Wasn't sure about it to be honest but according to what i've read he used the 8 string on I Know What I Like at Earls Court 1977. He apparently used it for that song on Wind & Wuthering tour which was before my time to be honest. Dave
Dave, any opportunity to discuss Mike Rutherford, Shergold's and Genesis is internet porn! I do recall pics of him with a unfamiliar bass around that time.
 18.
Down And Out but could be wrong
Down and Out's all bass pedals - no electric bass on it and yes Firth is bass and 12 string so it would have been his Shergold 4/12 modular.
