1. Ms emg got it me for crimbo. Like a lot of people on here I pretty much know the story anyway and I can say a great job's been done; accurate, sympathetic and respectful. Some fantastic footage and photos. Well done Mr Trujillo.
2. Not a Quo fan but you couldn't deny them. Like Bowie and Lemmy, they've been around forever. RIP Rick.
3. An improvement, but only because the original's a candidate for most over-rated song of the 21st century.
4. I liked Prog Rock mag at first but after a while it seemed there was only so much '70's stuff they could regurgitate and that was always going to disappear up it's own chocolate channel.
5.
I've been giving this a bit of thought & although there has been lots of stuff that has wowed me over the years I really can't think of anything better than Jaco's playing with Joni Mitchell.
I think his best stuff was on her records too.
6. I've learned that I still don't ask enough questions before joining bands.
7.
There is a whole world of music out there that has nothing to do with either the blues or "classical".
I was listening to that well known seventies blues album Tales from Topographic Oceans the other day.
8. 'Woke up dis moarnin', another dull Stones album...'
9.
I have no firm grasp on what you mean with that question, but do see several possibilities as to how to understand it. What I can tell you though is that I reacted ironically/sarcastically to Blue's claim, as that claim is utter nonsense. Sometimes I'm kinder than this, but sometimes one needs to be very clear (though, unwillingly, I may actually have been unclear, Idunno).
Bollox, I missed the irony
10.
This +1000, and that is why every time you recognise a Precision, a Wal, a StingRay or a Rick on a recording, this only means that the bass player has looked up the sound on Wikipedia, and has spent years trying to develop his fingers so the sound can be achieved at one point in time. Hard work, I tell ya!
So if I picked up Chris Squire's Rick, plugged into his effects and amps, I wouldn't sound at all like him?
11.
The folks at TOTP thought it was about Jockey Wilson
There's a new story on this one. Kevin Rowland now says he asked the guys at TOTP to do it on purpose, he just waited thirty years to tell anyone about it. Oh really.
12. Memphis Skyline by Rufus Wainwright is about Jeff Buckley.
13. James Jamerson on You're All I Need To Get By. Chris Squire on The Gates of Delirium.
14. Steve Hackett, 1979. His bassist Dik Cadbury alternated between Wal's and Jazz's.
15.
My humble Spector collection....
Never used to like the 5+ string headstock but I've come 'round to it.
16. Can't we discuss James Jamerson and Carole Kaye?
17.
Hard pushed to find the best bass playing I ever heard, but Macca's playing on this still gives me goosebumps
Well said. Respect to Macca.
18.

OMG, Refuge of the Road. Superb multi-track bass. I don't know why, but it feels like that slide down to the last note is the last thing he ever played. Of course it isn't, and I can't explain it.
19. Billy, that's a great pic of you with the man himself. I'd like to meet him just to say hi. Would you let me know when he's around? Here's me with my Euro 4LX-TW. That finish with black hardware is just awesome - even if I say it myself. OP I hope you're enjoying these pics
20.
8.8lbs, but a US custom build..
Billy Apple, you're just a blatant bragger - that bass is effing awesome!
21.
One of the most overrated bands of all time IMO. Two or three good tunes, but Joe Strummer can't sing to save himself. Tuneless caterwauling.
This. File with The Smiths.
22. Played 'em since '99 and love 'em. Best value for some time has been the Korean NS2000 IMO - they come around for peanuts on fleabay. I currently own a Euro 4 LX and a NS2000/4. Previously owned another NS2000/4, a SSD NS-94 and a fretless NS2000/4 - all great. There was a thread on here about things that bug you about your bass - I didn't see one entry moaning about a Spector.
23. Been on a Euro LX for eighteen months so trimmed 2+2.
