1. Curt Smith gave his to my cousin John (the band's monitor engineer) after the Big Chair tour. He says it's gathering dust under one of the beds but he still won't let me have it 'for a bit'.
2.
BO or NT would be a long way down my list of reasons to buy or not to buy a bass. Much less important than overall sound, active or passive, feel, look and weight. From what I've heard the differences are as described above, but in a band and on a gig I doubt that many would notice.
Seconded. I see the 'punch' word was backward in being forward too
3.
Your a bit buggered if your neck develops a warp or any other problem on a neck through.
That's what GAS is for!
4. Man on the Moon is a pop-tastic masterpiece.
5.
Another non story from the disgusting bbc. Surprised this hasn't been picked up by the victoria derbyshire show and passed off as news or had the tag line "are you black/a bass player/overlooked, if so, please contact us (because it's a cheap way of getting a story)" added.
Spot on - they're experts at making stuff up these days. And where was the drone above Daryl's house?
6.
I was a massive fan of R.E.M. from the first album right up until Monster, and apart from the occasional flicker of greatness thereafter I lost interest after that album. Indeed, I consider Out Of Time and Automatic For The People to be amongst the greatest popular music ever made. In my opinion they should have called it quits when Bill Berry left, but there you go. A fantastic, inventive band that left an important and envious legacy.
I'd agree with this - well past their sell-by date when they decided to knock it on the head.
7. Also Ebeneezer Jagger wouldn't part with a penny more than he had to.
8. Another non story from the Beeb. Did Genesis blaze a trail with Chester and Daryl or were there other hired hands replacing departees before that? (In other bands)?
9.
Green. Released in 1988. It was the follow up to Document.
Thanks. Green was the first one I bought. No love for Automatic...? I think it's brilliant.
10. What was there first album for Warner's?
11. Awesome roller-blader too - check out the It's Only Natural vid.
12. This is a six and two threes argument isn't it?
13.
Wow, what an open and honest insight into a fantastic musician, really enjoyed it!
Nearly spat my coffee out when mentioned dying his hair. Hair Gary?
14.
Listening to Woodface right now. It's so good. What did he play? Was it a Spector?
Dunno what he played on the album but he was seen around that time with a red Spector NS-2 at live gigs.
15.
I'm thinking of a streamer cos I love p pickups and mainly cos I saw a few german made lx models on here and was really suprised how cheap they were . I'm am old school fender with flats kinda guy but sometimes I need a modern tone and I've always fancied a warwick and when I saw a few on here I thought I could afford one of these but is it actually a proper warwick? , hence the post
Fair enough, I just thought I'd widen your options.
16. Hi spencer.b, Any particular reason you want a Streamer? I only ask because the original Streamer shape is the Spector NS - nicked by Warwick in the '80's. They do tons of models in that shape and IMO are better value.
17.
I think this is one of the reasons he doesn't overplay. Edge's guitar work is all about layers and texture under Bono's vocals, a busy bass line could well ruin it. I would imagine that Mr Clayton has some pretty good chops, it's just that U2 isn't the band to showcase them - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
This!
18. Well done, one of those 'why hasn't anyone posted this before' threads. Superb band. I consider Neil Finn to be an outstanding songwriter. The production on Woodface and Together Alone loves the bass too. Nick Seymour always does just the right thing.
19. She slagged off Jaco's 'middy' sound too. The Motown claims are outrageous.
20. What a mess. They couldn't have just copied the Tele headstock?
21. Consists of old Warwick gig bag, the big box in the photo inside which is a smaller box and a couple of strips of mega bubble wrap. Pick up in Gosport or will deliver within a sensible distance of the Portsmouth area or other options considered.
22.
Think I'll have a wander!!
Wow, an amp with an eco-efficiency rating!
23. Did I read somewhere that at the time McCartney was given his they only did a right-handed headstock? Apologies to the OP for being slightly off topic.
