Squier is not Fender, Epiphone is not Gibson
I got told off by Ebay for doing that with a Mayones I was selling a few years ago, I'd advertised it as "like Warwick/Spector" in the title, in order to attract more people who'd not heard of Mayones. i had to watch a video pointing out this was in breach of their terms and conditions before I could list anything again, with the suggestion that if I did it again they could ban me from Ebay.
Maybe they could clean their act up. When I want an effing amp cover for something I'll search for it - I don't need them filling up my actual search. -
Watched a couple of songs before my bedtime. Nick's never gone away has he. Remember seeing him play guitar back in the day and I thought this guy ain't just a pop star. Bit of a national treasure.
If watching bands on the TV is anything to go by I think more use J's than P's. They can't all be wrong can they? However having played Ps for years I switched to a Jazz 20 years ago, loved the neck width but thought the sound was generally thinner. Having finally abandoned Leo's offspring completely I think there are a lot better instruments out there and bass players should show the way and not be sheep like our guitarist brothers and sisters sticking to Strats Teles and Les's!
If you showed a guitarist a single pickup guitar and told him it was the dogs wotsits he'd split his sides.

No-one has ever mentioned my sound. I've always just assumed it sits in the mix in a sort of hefty/punchy way. They're free to suggest I play a P but only if they poo it out first. Off to measure how far my pickups are from reality...

Bought some strings recently. Ordered Tuesday, delivered Saturday. In between times they were good enough to let me know they were out of stock, offered me an alternative or refund and chased their supplier. Good service.

I'm 'different' too. Possibly the most overrated musician of my lifetime. She wouldn't even make the Joni Mitchell league.
"Learning to Fly" was my theme song for years - for the lyrics, not the sound, which chugs along a bit. For me it nails the daring and overcoming of terror to achieve a dream. Close to the bone. "Time" - again the lyrics are almost unbearably true - how did Waters at 28 when he wrote it, understand so well how it feels when one is 60? It is going to be played at my funeral, in the Gilmour "Live at Gdansk" version - that guitar solo is again almost unbearably poignant. I can only listen to it once a year at most, headphones clamped on and weeping.
I wonder if Roger Waters realised how poignant the lyrics on that whole album would be even now and probably forever. 'The papers hold their folded faces to the floor, and every day the paperboy brings more' screams desperation more than anything else to me.

Love that screw in the neckplate.

Bought 2nd hand in '07 and has mainly been clutter since. Worked perfectly well during it's last 'I might as well hang on to this' session. E tuning key missing (cheap to replace). The neck looks like it had a knife taken to it by it's previous owner but it plays ok (maybe like butter - perhaps that's what the knife was for)? Sporting a disastrous spray paint job I did 5 years ago which promptly stuck to it's case. Pick up in Gosport welcome, deliver to a sensible radius from the Portsmouth area for petrol money (by my calculations), or travelling to Birmingham late November so happy to meet somewhere along the M27/M3/A34/M40 or pick up in south Brum (Lickey). Or send your own courier. And yes, in case there's any doubt, it does come with that plush Cookie Monster case! What's not to love
Trivia time. Does anyone know what the album cover on Wish You were Hear is about.? The man shaking hands with a man on fire.?
I think it was described on the documentary as being burned by a seemingly friendly act, particularly in the music industry.

Hobbayne, sorry for more thread hijackery but I love the way it's gone with AC. There's something obscene about a musician swearing allegiance to one or two brands when he plays ten million basses per gig.

Dark Side's a masterpiece - a band at the point where all their planets lined up. But I love listening to Echoes.

Fair one guys, a rash post for which I apologise.
Yeah, but you didn't ACTUALLY believe that did you? ;-) Used pretty much that sound (though I had the tones on 2 and 8) every time we ever played Roxanne, Walking On The Moon, No Woman No Cry, One Love or It Must Be Love! A lot of people talk about "The Wal Sound" which it true but they often kinda follow that with "But what if I don't want to sound like Geddy Lee in the late 80s?" which misses the point completely. The Wal is a hugely versatile bass with an astonishing range of amazing tones which it can produce. It can bark but it can purr and roar too. Compare Percy Jones with Geddy with Bruce Thomas with Lol Cottle with Colin Moulding, with Macca, with Colin Edwin, with Colin Bass, with John Illsley... many colours of chalk with many flavours of cheese.
Which is the case for many other basses at a quarter of the cost. I'm starting to smell Wal-elitism (Walism).
That maple has turned out really well! does it sound more like a maple neck now? It is only a matter of time before a pub 'expert' tells you after the gig how nice it sounded and that he knew it was a maple board Ray as soon as he walked in, more mellow sounding
Take it to a bass bash - there might be someone who hasn't read this
