1. On request he's now added a photo of Jack with a lot of instruments he wasn't particularly associated with 😤
2. I've asked him for a pic of Jack with an FNA cos I can't find any.
3.
Adequate hovels; far too generous sir!
We've managed to eliminate the pretentious besboke hovel builders. We've banished them to the estate of Sir John of Hall.
4.
Yes, your probably right. I still have my original VHS that I recorded the Lyceum show on when it was broadcast on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Have you seen the amalgam of both nights. I really enjoyed that.
Yes I've seen that on YT and it's good.
5. I haven't chosen a luthier yet, I'm far too busy making sure the surfs on my estate have adequate hovels.
6. The band have already plundered their archives for various boxed sets. I think the Lyceum shows from 1980 had 'enhanced' audio - good sound recordings spliced into them. Maybe when Mike needs another polo pony or Phil has to settle another divorce we'll see the barrel scraped a bit more 😋
7. I remember a bootleg of the gig. And you're right, it's staggering that there isn't any footage of it. Probably a reflection of the indifference shown towards 'proper' music by the British media. If it had happened somewhere in Europe they'd have recorded the whole show.
8.
I've admired the look of Thumbs and for the most part loved the sound of them on recordings but in the real world...1) they feel like a dead fish in my hands when I pluck the strings. 2) Without a bit of eq to boost the bass they sound like a Wal being played through a cheap 1x8 amp. I couldn't have one as my main instrument but I live in hope of an epiphany one day...
Let's start a Wal war! 😀
9.
Fairly sure the pink Cass Lewis bass had normal dot markers and iirc it did pass through a couple of hands a few years ago!
check out any of Terence Trent D'arby's vids from '87/88 and they're bigger oval markers.
10. Thread revival time. Did I see the Cass Lewis pinky on here a while back - the one with the big oval fret markers? There's a guy on YT claiming ownership but it looks a different colour and has small dot fret markers. Anyone know the story?
11. Hang on to the NS-94; you'll get peanuts for it in a sale and they're great basses.
12. Rock With You, possibly one of the perfect pop songs. RIP Rod.
13.
Stings tune(s) sounded like he ran out of ideas and sat & listened through the entire Police back catalogue for inspiration. Zzzzzzzzzzz................
On reflection I'm surprised he's bothered with another rock album. Does he really feel he has something to offer?
14.
Fair price for a NT in very good nick. That bubinga pommelle is stunning. I would feel better about it if the payment terms were different though.. Try and speak to the guy, even on the phone prior to committing yourself. Should put your mind at ease or help you decide it's not for you...
Thanks. The terms make me nervous but they come along quite often. It is a stunner though.

16.
good opportunity to show mine off I think! 1985 - one of the super early ones with the short horn. This one has has the active seymore duncans and a solid mother-of-pearl truss rod cover that signified what was the closest they got to a custom shop back in 1985... but they can't remember who it was built for.... anyway - everything is about 3-4 frets further left, the ergonomics are different, you'll want a suede or something strap that doesn't move... but they sound awesome. My one is like a kinda like a funky jazz bass but with a big fat angry bottom that means a P bass lover like me likes it Interestingly I've only seen two other 1985 short horn thumb bass with the seymore duncans, one was was a fretless owned by a certain Mr Bruce ...
Had rubber grips around the neck of my strap when I had a 5-string.
17.
I've got this Custom Shop Thumb NT. At the time a one-off finish - gloss walnut, or so I was told, anyway. Shops will tell you anything. It's lovely to play - shallow, wide neck, stack knob controls. 26 frets (though I don't play up the dusty end much of the time). As much bottom as you could want. Worth spending the money on.
That's gorgeous!
18. Cringeworthy. Is that the movie or the band?
19. The curse of The Police - they recorded Ghost in the Machine at this place and Air Monserrat.
20. McCartney. Bass player: average. Musician: outstanding. There, I've nearly turned it into a Macca thread!
21. Bit of al fresco buffoonery.
22.
Thanks for the Heads Up. The BoG album always made me feel that Jimi had so much more to give. The only other artist I feel like that about is Jeff Buckley (Hmm this could turn into a whole separate thread...)
I'll have to check out that BOG album. Grace came around in the car tonight. Sublime.
