1. Before singlecuts got a hard time for being fugly....
2. Designed in the boardroom zzzzzzz........
3.
If you want one do it because you want to.
Totally agree. I owned an BO fiver years ago and got rid of it because I couldn't get on with a 5-string. It had a weedy sound (those models have two bridge pickups IMO) and it could out-neck dive an ostrich. I saw Cass Lewis with one in '87 and got GAS before it was called GAS. The 4-string models look effing gorgeous. I just want one!
4. Great article and I particularly like the last bit about encouraging people to play guitars and then more expensive guitars. Is their guitar range as baffling as Fender's?
5. I previously owned a BO fiver which I got rid of cos I decided I didn't like the extra string.
6.
Be careful about the ergonomics with the NT versions (I've had a NT4 and NT5). The first position is a few frets further away. The BO versions are a bit closer, but still take a while to get used to when swapping from say, a streamer. However that being said the tone is the best I've heard with everything set flat, really thick and organic!
Many thanks. There's this on eBay for £1295/best offer EMG loaded.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361734979734?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
7. Calling all Thumb aficionados. My GAS for one of these has surfaced again - it's never far away. Looking for a pre-owned 4-string NT natural finish/black hardware. What should I pay and any other advice welcome.

9. The Nutty Boys, they're a national treasure sadly.
10. So let's get this straight; you've synthed/sampled a bass to play it on a keyboard so it sounds like a bass anyway. Something fishy going on.
11. That's the most convincing synthesized bass sound I've ever heard! And another devil's spawn in Eb: Beat It, Purple Rain, anything by Stevie Wonder....
12.
Probably not, because somebody else would've done the groundwork by then. Part of the genius of The Beatles, other than the incredible songwriting and everything else was that they were pretty much making it up as they went along. There was no 'manual' to follow; they were writing the manual. They set the template that every band or artist that has come after has followed, whether directly or indirectly.
This.
13.
I think so too. I started wondering if he wasn't Sting and hadn't fronted The Police would those songs have had airplay?
Considering some of the guitar-based garbage that gets on the show YES!
14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tArmHN4j3qQ Chris Rock on his 2008 Kill The Messenger tv special. Obviously Michael was alive at the time. Very funny.
15. Sting. Not bad actually and a blistering version of Next To You to finish off with (the harmony guitars went a bit Lizzy there for a bit). Anyone know who the second guitarist is? Not Dominic Miller, the other one.
16.
im inclined to agree with several others above that both these are just being thrown in there to massage the guitards ego aside... what widdly bits are you referring to ? TJH does a lot of rush vids on the youtubes and this one shows all the positions and fingering nice and clear https://youtu.be/p2XpKFGPUG0
I did say in the original post I didn't want this to be about personal ability/dick measuring. I can't and will never aspire to being able to play that quickly.
17. Cass Lewis's pink Warwick Thumb circa '87.
18.
I'd concur with Dropzone on the talent front, BUT, given what was supposed to be going down in the guy's personal life (and hey, let's just skim over the general weirdness here), it still amazes me that he continues to get airplay and no one says anything.
True, you don't hear much Gary Glitter on the radio these days.
19. You pay a small fortune for an awesome looking bass and then put effing red-binded Roto's on it!
20. Defo listen to this with a sub, the keyboard/electric bass is awesome. There were stories that the producers used stand-ins for some of MJ's dance sequences. See how thin he is too.
21.
Pretty good I Pretty good I would say for the environment. I couldn't really hear the bass but he looked like he was doing the right thing. The guitarist was pretty close. Its that beginning thing where it falls apart, but as someone said, to get that right it needs people who really know each others playing. Then you look at them, and realise that 3 of them are doing Geddy Lees part
I've seen them look pretty pleased with themselves after doing Tom Sawyer too and thought 'now three of you clear off and do it again!'
22.
I'm always up for hearing that song if it's done well!! Nailing the harmonies are vital though. Next audition you get, just go for it! I feel you had that thought in your mind you could possibly get to the level otherwise this wouldn't have even been a topic. Stretch yourself. You might well be surprised. Good luck for whatever comes along
Thanks for the kind words. Personally I think Wayward Son meanders a bit and the harmonies would be difficult.
