I also was only aware of him through Word of Mouth. Didn't realise he played on the sublime Midnight Cowboy. RIP.
Any topic in bass guitars with over 500 posts usually based on a Fender product or facsimile thereof, but if you can be bothered to read the whole thread, the ratio of basses bought to thread replies is less than 1 in 50. Classic examples I can think of:- 1) 2016 - Fender Flea Jazz Bass (Mexican with a price supplement over standard)
Yep, the Fenderistas are still wetting themselves over that one.

Isn't Koko that really bright gorilla who knows sign language and can clearly express emotions?

Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
spectoremg replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
He describes it as rare which I absolutely agree with. Having followed these since Mike Rutherford started using them I've never seen one in this configuration. -
Defo an NS-94. I had one which stated so on the truss rod cover but no ID anywhere else (including under the electronics cover). IIRC some of them were made in China. I used to have a Bass Player article which rated them quite highly. They originally retailed at $1000 so by no means a budget bass. I loved mine for many years until GAS got the better of me.

Tennessee 15 string - how much??????
spectoremg replied to winterfire666's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
What's the lowest string that's actually audible (human hearing)? -
What about Houses of the Holy - naked kids climbing a causeway.
this is nice
Ah, I knew it wouldn't be long before TW got a mention.
Nice to see a couple of new suggestions here - the usual suspects have been done to death on FB etc. Here's my nomination, released only last year: LOLz
Great suggestion. The content is crap too.

How many times have you broken a string?
spectoremg replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
17 years, finger style, 105 gauge strings, never. -
Is that his original Stingray?
Turns out Cort were reading this thread for inspiration, then jumped into their time machine and popped back to 1985 to create this: Including genuine Steinberger-licensed bridge! But yes, looks are very important. Fortunately I like basses in general so can find something to love in most styles, colours and designs. Not seen too many singlecuts that I like, but I think that's down to trend-led aesthetics rather than the underlying concept. There is no intrinsic need for a singlecut to look like the misbegotten offspring of Snoopy and a sperm whale. But most of them somehow do. Jon.
If you put the Land of the Giants headstock back on that (for show) it would be the ugliest thing this side of the black stump. In fact a black stump with strings would be prettier.
A few from a festival we played last weekend, Ash Festival! A bit of concentration here! Our fans are getting younger every day........
Nice pics. This is probably a Marmite observation, but looks-wise those Status basses have stood the test of time. -
Stevie Wonder seems to interchange keyboard bass, string bass and both together on some of his numbers with little problem. Not sure what that says for us poor lot!
Nathan Watts plays on Stevie's stuff from around Songs in the Key of Life onwards. Stevie does indeed play keyboard bass but generally avoids stringed instruments.

Dragon's Den - Analogue Optical Guitar Cable
My Pleasure to join, took a couple of days to get approved by the admin Don't think i should compare basschat to guitarchat
Welcome. You may be tempted by topics about Paul McCartney, Mark King, Lemmy and someone called Jaco Pastorius. Also posts about amplification which may appear ostensibly technical but are just a front for some micro-comparison nob twiddling or just plain dick measuring. Avoid. Topics about song choice also. And don't be tempted to buy a 15-string bass. And if you see the word HEFT, shut your computer down immediately! -
Is it true that the special choir was made by recording separate notes on each tape track, each note being many layers of voices singing the same note? Then playing chords on the mixing desk by moving faders. All in the days before fader automation.............?! LD
Apparently so. The mixing was a labour of love.

There's surely a theme going on here - look at that door handle in the pic? -
I'm guessing it doesn't to many people, which is why there are so many P basses around .
Dammit, you beat me to it!

Dragon's Den - Analogue Optical Guitar Cable
spectoremg replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
I just emailed David Holmes with a link to this discussion and suggested he join Basschat and explain a bit. So he may be along in a bit
I'll be interested to read what he has to say having seen mostly negative but knowledgeable comments about his product. You get lots of people in the Den who seem to have done absolutely no market research beforehand and are frankly total dreamers. If Mr Holmes seriously thinks that compared to high quality cables or affordable wireless technology the market needs his product then I think he is indeed a dreamer. -
The future of everything is wireless, No one is going to go back to a lead in the professional arena even if it's made of unicorn hair. It is totally pointless. Re brand them as heft adding leads and we will see them joining a lime light to a barefaced via a handbox in no time
This. They failed to mention that nobody uses cables live, including their much-mentioned Cold play guy. Edit: how about a short optical cable from your guitar to your transmitter unit lol. -
Tennessee 15 string - how much??????
spectoremg replied to winterfire666's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
He has no intention of ever selling it (IMO), it's just some kind of loony eBay trip for him.
