1. I have a lot of time for these guys. Saw LC in the nineties just after Doug had taken over. Excellent. But... Vernon Reid's endorsee whore waffle about PRS... and Doug blasting straight into another guitar distortion sound...
 2. I can echo anyone else's sentiments about bad drummers having had two superb ones in a row. I had a five year break from bands because of crap drummers - I was once asked why? I cited the above whilst maintaining laser quality eye contact with the drummer.
 3.
[s]That's a Vigier Arpege fretless (Delta Metal) series 1 from the early 80s. [/s] Sorry I mean a 61 stacked knob jazz
Cheers. I thought I saw a chunky V on the headstock.
 4.
Just out of interest, is there a pic of Pino playing this?
I trawled for one yesterday and couldn't find one. As has already been mentioned, this is a bass that's never been associated with Pino.
 5. Off on a tangent, Ms emg is off to see Paul Young next month in Southampton so we've had his old stuff out. Loving that synthy octave bass on Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTWt_pKiMl4 which bass?
 6.
That Behind The Lines line was one that I used as a learning tool early on. Alphonso Johnson is, to me, THE underrated player. Sklar is top drawer, though, absolutely.
Well said. Credit where it's due.
 7.
Love the guy, genuinely my hero. But he has been a gear whore 😂
Saw him on solo tour in '99 with those beautiful GB's. Alembic must feel a bit egg on face after making an exception to their no endorsees policy for him (I'm aware that Stanley Clarke is too).
 8. Bear in mind that a piccolo bass is an abomination that the likes of Stanley Clarke will burn in hell for (wink).
 9. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10207989522994833&set=pcb.1169781296366830&type=3&theater Posted purely for the curious. I think he was an endorsee for about five minutes.
 10.
I can only comment on the the tapes I use (D'Addario ETB92's) - when they're fresh, they have a slightly 'papery' texture to them, which I love. Still really smooth and easy on the fingers, but there's a little bit more texture to them than flats - not grip as such, but just a subtle texture. They feel less grippy to me than brand new flats sometimes can. That goes in a short time and they become smoother the longer you play them, and their tone also gets fatter. You have to like a dry thumpy tone to enjoy these strings, but compensating by playing more dynamically and with a bit more snap is really satisfying. Try them for motown / dusty old funk / straight ahead jazz. I wouldn't use them for slap tho.
Thanks for the reply - I'm gonna try some.
 11. I think he ran out of money when it came to the 5/6 string bridge - the necks clearly wide enough!
 12.
Listen to these tapewounds on a jazz, I have them on 2 p's and assumed they would sound bad on a j. But I think I'm going to give them a shot on my jazz too, that tone is pretty magnificent.
I like that. How do you find the 'grip' of the tapewounds compared to rounds?
 13. Deny GAS at your peril
 14.
Get that knife ready again... http://www.rollingst...n-tour-20160416
15. Two points: 1. It isn't a Phil Collins tune; it's a version of the second half of the opener from the Duke album by Genesis credited to the three member of the band and, 2. This version appeared on Phil's first solo album and was credited to Alphonso Johnson which Lee seems to be playing note for note. nb. I like Lee a lot too.
 16.
Just revisited this thread and remembered i never did post any of my family, but ive just had to take a few piccies for Insurance purposes so.......... Firstly my baby a 2014 Forte 4 Helium, unbelievable to play and the sound is incredible, this is one of the basses made from reclaimed Redwood water towers in NYC, its light too. Next up a Euro 4, which is wonderful, bought of a lovely old lady for £550. My latest acquisition a 1995? SSD NS5CR, 34 inch thru neck. Followed by the beast, a Euro 6xl
Tried a Helium out at Bass Direct. Lovely instrument.
 17.
A series of mistrials, due to acute narcolepsy rendered the lawsuit unmanageable.
Narcolepsy?
 18. On a general point, can anyone clear up the copyright/public domain laws. I recall something about fifty years unless you pay lawyers to renew?
 19.
Tax Man and Start seem very similar too.
D'oh, you beat me to it!
 20.
Similar claims have been made about The Eagles' Hotel California being a rip off of Jethro Tull's We Used To Know, but I don't think it ever went as far as court AFAIK. The general consensus among musos is that chord progressions were shared in the same manner as needles back in the day. Look at blues and rock'n'roll - I guess some stuff is considered more 'open source' than others. I can understand people getting upset about apparent 'plagiarism' though. I guess the debate will rumble on.... *shrug*
There's an interview with Ian Anderson where he states he really doesn't care.
 21. 'Team Led Zep' ought to be good at this now, they've settled for loads of stuff out of court already.
 22. So let me get this straight. They're flush mounted so you can't see them except when you've got a strap on - when you really wouldn't see ordinary ones either. And in the event that you ever had to use an ordinary strap you'd be screwed? Are they made by a company called Gullible, Gimmick & Profit?
 23. That superb drumming on Sound and Vision. RIP.
