1. Just listened to a couple of tracks through headphones; toppy, middy, distorted, not a fundamental in sight - everything that's bad about a bass sound.
 2.
Titles by Barclay James Harvest - a song made up of B**tles song titles and some musical references. Kid Rock - All Summer Long, a complete lift of Sweet Home Alabama. In the outro of Dire Straits' Money for Nothing, Sting does some backing vocals, including "I want my, I want my, I want my MTV" to the melody of "Don't stand so close to me".
Sting gets a writing credit on that one purely for that reason - and presumably a nice royalty too (like he needs it).
 3. Thought this thread was going to be about a love interest
 4.
Little challenge for you Lozz, compile me the best 12 tracks from Use Your Illusion 1&2 so it forms the amazing single album you describe (in your opinion). I've never bothered with it as the sheer size of both albums puts me off. Actually that could become a whole thread: 'Create your ultimate single album from a patchy double/triple album'!
Start that thread!
 5. For me most double albums either run out of ideas on side four (or three)! or include some padding. A lot of them missed out on the CD 70/80 minute format where those filler tracks would have been left out. Occasionally though they're packed with great stuff. Rules: 1. Albums of original material - no compilations. 2. No live albums (see 1.). 3. As many suggestions as you like. Works: Don Juan's Reckless Daughter/Joni Mitchell. Actually quite a short album and probably stretched to four sides for sonic excellence. Don't: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway/Genesis. Maybe it's just me but I've always enjoyed the first half of this more than the second. And it pains me to say it because the previous three were so good but Songs in the Key of Life/Stevie Wonder. Some of those outros outstay their welcome.
 6.
Lightheartedness seems to be in short supply on here recently. I bet Macca's ownership of a Wal had much less impact on their sales than the fleet of 80's pop bass gods playing them. I for one appreciated the tongue in cheek element of the 'paid him to stop' comment, even as an appreciator of McCartney. Bloody Internet.
Like button.
 7.
Maybe they paid him to stop
8. I think I read on here that Alembic made an exceptions to their 'no endorsements/freebies' policy for Stanley Clarke and Mark King. Did Wal do any kind of deal with Paul McCartney when he was using his 5-string?
 9.
I have a cutlass1 from 1983, still plays it, low and fast action, and by the way, hello my name is Anders and I am from Denmark
That colour scheme's close to perfection.
 10. Calling all psychologists/Sherlocks. It's my belief that this seller has absolutely no intention of selling this piece of firewood. What's going on?
 11.
I use a Zoom MS-60B with the BassPitch effect (I think) which gives a pretty effective octave up, slightly dirty, useful for things like "Riverboat song" and "I love rock and roll".
Bloody hell, Riverboat Song's one of 'em!
 12.
TC & their Polytune range seem to be absolutely owning the tuner world at the moment; I very much like my pedal so I'd guess their clip-on is good too. It's great the clip-ons are getting better nowadays but one downside I've noticed is people using them at gigs keep forgetting to turn-down/mute their basses & guitars - I can't stand "The Tuning Song"!
This. I have one which is great but don't have any other means of muting out which is incredibly useful so the Planet Waves floor wart stays for now.
 13.
Guy Pratt posted on FB yesterday that he was the bass player all the way through rehearsals, as GAD couldn't make it until just before showtime. That must have been frustrating....!
I wonder if Rick Wakeman did the rehearsals too
 14. Good for you. And bass isn't always perfect at concert volume but you haven't heard it 'til it's thundering through a medium sized+ PA.
 15. I don't buy the line about Earl Slick not suiting Mick Ronson's style being responsible for bum notes - just learn the song Earl!
 16. Bought my main bass through them online at a discount price. Very happy.
 17. Earl Slick, Sterling Campbell, Gail, Mike Garson. I didn't know the blonde guitarist and the female keyboard player. Anyone? And an interesting twist from another thread, Gail slapping (briefly) on Ashes to Ashes.
 18.
If Bowie rated Lorde that much then she was probably the only logical choice. Other than just having Bowie's mic stand at the front of the stage and the band playing behind, without the vocals. Because really, who's going to be able to follow him? No-one.
The empty mike stand gets my vote; a bit of simple technology could have spliced his voice into that (assuming the master tapes still exist).
 19.
Yes, from the farewell / Thunder and Lightning tour in 1893. Saw them on that tour and the Renegade tour in the summer of 81. On that tour Phil was playing an Ibanez Blazer bass with a mirror scratch plate.
1893! Jeez is it that long since Phil's been gone
 20. Looking to fill up some empty space when the guitard drops out of the riff to solo in a three-piece. Many thanks.
 21.
Is that 'payday' in the sense of Euromillions payday?
That's an idea. Is local pick up offered? I'd have to insist just to clap eyes on this clown.
 22. You could hold a limbo dancing championship under that action!
 23. Probably of no use to your post but by coincidence Spandau Ballet were on TOTP from 1981 tonight.
