1. Hamish got the call for Macca's touring band in the nineties. Caution: Wal content.
2. The NS2000 body shape. The headstock logo is print instead of mother of pearl which indicates it's a budget instrument. Still a good price.
3. Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby.
4.
All of those that have voted for Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair might want to check out Steven Wilson's remix of the album. It's been completely rebuilt from the original analogue master tapes, all the 80s reverb fog removed and replaced with a more subtle use of modern reverb, and all the mastering compression removed and replaced by a flat transfer. It sounds amazing and you can actually hear all the different parts; Mothers Talk is an absolute revelation.
Thanks for that, I'll check it out.
5. Songs From The Big Chair. One of those albums where an artists planets all line up.
6. I have The Corporate World by Gail and it's a cracking album. Nathan East produced and shared the bass duties.
7.
They are very useful indeed but should be used with discretion, especially the VPF and especially live. The VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) gradually rolls off a wider and wider range of top-end for a more old-skool sound, while the VPF (Variable Pre-Shape Filter) will progressively Boost lows and highs, in effect giving you a mid-scooped sound. Though this makes the amp sound very nice when playing solo or at home, you definitely don't want to be scooping your mids in a live situation as you will not be heard. It's important to note that both controls are only in the 'OFF' position when fully LEFT, and not at 12 o'clock. They are a major selling point of Markbass amps. When I had a Markbass, I set the EQ controls flat and got all the sounds I needed using only the VLE and VPF filters. You can get an amazing combination of tones just by using the filters and nothing else.
This. I do exactly the same on my Markbass amps.
8. I'm puzzled at PG's motives for this. His last 'rock' album was nowhere near his usual high standards and was a very long time ago and he seemingly spends his time doing orchestral reworks of his back catalogue, but when asked about a Genesis reunion he says he doesn't have the time for it or it's a 'backward' step. Standards much double.
9. Is it one of those eighties revival tours? Where's Tony Hadley and Boy George?
10. The better half mentioned this tonight. I said it's been an upsetting year for me with all the musicians who's work I loved passing on. I expect a few others feel the same. RIP Glenn.
11.
I keep trying to persuade the others to do Sledgehammer. Excellent song.
I'm gonna suggest this to a band soon - no reason why you can't make a cracking tune like this work with available instruments.
12. Music - bass first, unless it's Steve Hackett - in which case the guitar will distract me (for a bit).
13. On the Classic Albums show Tony Levin explains how he got the bass sound. Worth a look.
14.
Ha ha, the OP's story reminds me of the Alan Partridge episode where the nutty fan has got the Alan "cut-out" figure in his "interview" room.
Me too - priceless. Please Steve do another series!
15.
I was never really interested in all that prog stuff, King Crimson, Yes etc. I only really listened to Genesis after Phil Collins took over. I know, I,m shallow.
For your lines you are to write 'Return of the Giant Hogweed' 100 times! :-)
16.
I'm 51 & I've bought plenty of flea products. They were from the vet to use on my cats.
Yeah but I was talking about sea bass fleas.
17. I'd be interested to see what the age range is of people buying endorsed basses. I suspect a lot more teenage boys have bought Flea products than adults.
18.
Ashes to Ashes, i still have the single with the pic sleeve from when it came out. always loved that bass line but the best version of all of them i have heard is this one, you can see it on daves face at 4:43 he is just loving it, quite right as well the band are all on it... with the perfect iconic stingray sound. Enjoy.. https://www.youtube....h?v=lNqo0kIR-TU
That BBC show is wonderful.
19.
More awesome. Look out for Garson, Gabrels and whoever the drummer is here. Amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xup_RSisiWQ
Nice to see Mike Garson interviewed on the telly last night.
20. Ashes to Ashes. Just when I thought he was finished (again) he came up with Scary Monsters with this diamond on it.
